  1. I am confused by your second forth point......
  2. I'm currently using a discontinued Crest Electronics mobile DVR. CDR-2104N Series I believe. Its from an old school bus. I have been looking to replace it because it eats hard drives because of the heat. I am testing a zmodo DVR to put in my Jeep as a replacement because it can handle slightly higher temps than the crest DVR and I have an old SSD to throw in it. The DVR also takes 12V which is one of the other reasons I picked it. As for cameras, I have a reverse camera hooked up on the back, And a cheap chinese one on the front. I'd like to replace it with a wide angle camera and mount it inside, facing the front and another facing the interior. Ill also be able to hook it up to my router and remote into it with my phone. cuz Im a nerd like that.

    Good DVR Bad OS

I've fixed it!! After calling around I got it working and learned some on the way too! I've got a clean install of xp pro running diginet 4.1x. I have the OS on a 40gig drive and I'm using the 160gig as the data disk. While working inside of it I also come across a Kio-1616 card. From what I've found it's an I/O card. Does it use separate software and/or drivers? I don't see it in device manager.

    Good DVR Bad OS

Ya talked me into it. I called em and they said " as the system is 11 years old, and we didn't make the system back then, we don't have anything that will help you.". They were surprisingly nice and helpful for someone who wasn't paying the $125 technical support fee.

    Good DVR Bad OS

Wow. Thanks for the fast replies. I've looked on their website, are they phone support only or do they also use email? I do have an xp pro install so that would be awesome if they help! Is there any xp software that's worth looking into if they don't?

    Good DVR Bad OS

No I haven't. It was given to me through family so I don't have any purchase order numbers or installer setup number or anything. I dont have a w2k install anymore. But unless there's a hidden code somewhere I doubt they'd wanna help.

    Good DVR Bad OS

This is a legitiment dvr. The capture card is Kodicom 4400r an I/O card KIO-1616. I was previously able to get good frame rates with multiple cameras. I would prefer to stay windows based OS but most of those options are not free. I was using I3dvr version 4.xxx but I no longer have the setup key for the software. I have given up hope on finding my key or a replacement, but at least I know I have decent hardware to do something with.
  8. I have had a dvr ive been running about the last 3ish years. It is a w2k system with a KMC-4400r and a KIO-1616, and the security system software is i3dvr. The hard drive is dead. I dont have my key anymore for the software and was looking for other solutions? The system is all original except the hard drive which I am upgrading from a 120 to a 160 gig. It is a rackmount with 20(?) camera inputs. I am open to any Ideas! I am currently looking at Zoneminder with ubuntu.

    Vehicle Setup Quick Question

What would you rate this camera as?(as far as night quality and focus) I think I recorded it CIF@30fps I would like to have a wider field of view but because of the cheap nature of the camera I doubt I could get a different Lense. This camera Is outside the car and is exposed to the elements. I am thinking about replacing with a bullet camera or maybe a better camera and mount it inside.

    Vehicle Setup Quick Question

Wow! thanks for the fast reply. Dual Voltage will show on the back or bottom of the camera next to the 24vac, if I had one correct? This system is in a Jeep Wrangler with a softtop so smaller and easier to hide would be best. I think my DVR only records 360x240 per input so I dont need to get a great quality camera. I would like a better DVR but this one was free and its only my hobbie so... Total project costs to date is ~38 dollars. Im not trying to record anything particular. No history of vandleism or road rage. Just doin it because I can and I find it interesting.

    Vehicle Setup Quick Question

I have a quick question for those of you that run a vehicle mounted dvr. How do you power 24vac security cameras? 12dc->120ac->24vac? or is it better to stay away from those cameras? What would be the best quality vs size? I am currently using a Crest 2104N. I have a reverse backup camera for the rear, and a Chinese camera for the front. Everything so far is 12 volts. Everything is written to hard drive. Within the next week or two I will have my wireless video link complete. On a side question, My DVR has 4 video inputs and 1 audio. Where would be the best locations for the camera? Would it be beneficial to put one on speedo? Im pretty sure it would be awhile before I could write a program to overlay gps. And is recording audio a good idea? I see people with opinions on both sides, Illegal in some places, but allows me to read and record license plates without needing the other vehicles to be in the right place or focus. Any and All ideas are welcome. Some of you have AMAZING vehicle setups that I would someday hope to have!
  12. I just wanted to say Hi to everyone here. Ive joined finally from being a lurker. I have 2 dvr systems at home and 8 at work.
