Help needed with home cctv system

First and formost, how you are going to run the power and video??.. Most newer homes are prewired with Cat 5. If that is not the case, running cable can get quite expensive. JMAN recommended IP cams-- which isn't necessarily a bad idea, but it wouldn't be my my first choice. You can get a cost efficient (stand alone) dvr--4 ch, networkable, w/ 160 gb hd,<1-2 weeks of storage with MPEG-4 compression>, most units have 2 outputs~~~ 4 cams, 1 monitor, psup, for a pretty reasonable price. What is your budget? Are you doing the install, or subcontracting?

Well it's over PHEW>> I had a terrific time, checked out alot of new products- Sony has a new camera very similar to the COVI cam- however you don't need a PDA or Laptop to program pics during setup. The best part of the show was meeting my customers and friends ... It was terrific meeting G-MEN and NORMINGANDER....You guys rock. Any feedback on our booth?

Cheers to that suggestion Normicgander How are we supposed to know who's who?? We should all do something different and distinct like...wrap some coax around our wrist or something---that way we know it's a fellow forum amigo I found out we are not staying @ Venican-- but Billagio. I can't wait!!!!!!!!
  4. My experience with Dedicated Micros for the most part has been positive. I've sold hundreds of these units because, in my opinon, they are the most user friendly dvr on the market. My customer has a contract with Fred Meyers (a chain store in the NW) He installs 4-5 BX2PT's a month (16 ch 1.2 TB w/all the xtras) Lately- I've noticed a big difference in their quality. I don't know if it is the "brand" of hd, but it seems like atleast 1 out of 5 units--problems with hard drives(usually Drive C or D). That seems to be the only major problem I've experienced. However there customer service and tech support is fantastic. I give it a 10!

Staying at the Benican-- That is the only way our company could hook up as many Pelco tickets as we did (Besides our millions $$ of volume) I guess that is where the party is taking place. Chicago--whoever that is (b-4 my day) is the band playing this year. Anybody taking the IP Network Video classes offered?? I heard they are booked up already.
  6. Rory-- check this out http://www.covitechnologies.com/videos Check out: Controlled Parking and Licence Plate Capture-- All of the video's are targeted for specific areas where detail is necessary. I am not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure you need the software to achieve all functions. http://www.covitechnologies.com/user_files/pdf/product/brochure/analog_brochure.pdf
  7. Yes, I have sold quite a few of these COVI cameras. The EVQ1000's are incredibly different and unique. They have extremely high resolution and one camera captures 4 seperate images. The only thing is that you need a handheld PDA or laptop to progam it. And for techs, 10 foot up on a ladder, that can be a nusance. Perfect application-- Gated community. One cam can capture Licence plate #, overall view, zoom in of drivers face, and zoom in of backround. Rory is right- the old models had horrible lux (picture quality in low light) The new ones are better- 0.1 lux-- not great. A lighting source is recommended. Check out specs.. http://www.covitechnologies.com/user_files/pdf/product/datasheet/evq_v2_datasheet_web.pdf

Thank you SPYMAN99 and KANDDCORP for your feedback. I've never heard of the ICR "Pro Series" dvr but judging from your posted pics-- Not too shabby of a picture for a lower end casino job.Is there a website I can check out? As JoeB had mentioned, every casino is "crying poor" when it comes to going digital. However a good selling point-- "The money they will save from T-160 tapes, manpower, time lost reviewing footage, and constantly fixing belts, heads, exc...." Will pay for itself within 2 years. Guarentee it. I try convincing my techs not to compromise quality for the buck. It will only backfire and end up causing u more $$ and headaches. Some listen, some don't

This one is a small indian casino here in California. They are using Bosch DIVAR's currently. I deal with quite a few casino's both indian casinos as well as Vegas Casinos. My biggest opstacle is spec'ing a dvr that meets all of the regulations. Do you really think that going with a PC Based unit is the best solution?

Rory, Hate to be negative, but G.E. is on my poop-list. Not only have I had problems with there DVMRE series units (mostly HD failure) but there outside reps have been taking my customers direct. Not to mention there Customer Service has gone down the tubes... Just last week, I had a 40K IFS fiber order shipping to Canada via Bax Global (customer acct# and broker) THEY SHIPPED IT FED-EX!!!!! Talk about a headache. Sorry, besides the point. However, you are a smart cookie, so I will hear you out. Which unit would you recomend going with for this application? (will it communicate with a Bosch protocol?) Just curious. Not my #1 concern, however I am working on an expansion job where GSA did the original install, and he's wanting to save $$$ without compromising quality... Still thinking Kalatal is my solution?
