  1. It usually depends if your NVR software does any transcoding or post-processing of the data stream from the camera, or if that is handled by the viewing client. For example, Milestone/ONSSI does a lot of processing on the streams, and is fairly processor intensive, Avigilon and Exacq don't seem to do anywhere near as much processing, and so have a much lower processor load.

    Good point, although that really just reinforces what I said: simply receiving the stream and writing it to disk is not processor-intensive... it's all that other stuff that is, particularly the decoding that's required for everything else to happen (analytics, motion detection, transcoding, etc.)

    Agreed. Both Exacq and Avigilon use camera based motion detection so that's how the cpu usage is low.

    Now why would they want to do that

  2. Apples to oranges. You're comparing a 200 dollar camera to a 600 dollar camera. Sorry, but you got a 200 dollar lesson- don't buy this camera. Shame you couldn't return it, or can you still? That mintron looks excellent. If it wasn't so much money I'd surely get eight of them myself. You can try cheaper cameras and maybe find one comparable to that mintron in those lighting conditions, but it's a crap shoot. Buy with a return policy. Good luck.

    Dan

    Actually, suggested retail for that camera is 360.00, and that is only because it is a 22X optical zoom camera, which does not make the image any better than the CNB, just enables it to zoom in on farther objects.

  3. Well this is what it looks like in the exact same position same light etc....

    hi. never had a CNB as bad as that. BUT i would say it is a setup problem. you cant compare those two images as the lighting is not the same in both images. CNB you have the extra lighting infront of the camera and on the Mintron you have it behind the camera

    Ah yes I can compare those 2 images. The CNB is mounted 1 foot below the Mintron and the image was taken at the same time for both cameras.

    Well this is what it looks like in the exact same position same light etc.... CNB sent it back to me after I sent it in for warranty and I quote

    We checked out the camera and we found that the Day/Night function was on Color. We initialized the product and all functions are working fine.

    If that is fine than CNB really SUCKS!

    Mintron camera for comparison.

  5. I should of been more specific. The local code will define the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), which will have the ultimate discretion on what is allowed and what is not allowed in your particular instance and it is usually not allowed in living areas. Also it is is not permitted where subject to physical damage, then only schedule 80 is permitted, but Some local codes require the use of metal conduit outside.

  7. Hi Daskew,

    I have to tell you that that isn't a RAYMAX illuminator from Raytec. You may get better results with a real Raytec illuminator.

    Good night time performance with IP cameras is getting much easier. Lots of the big manufacturers, Axis, Arecont, Sony, Mobotix etc, can all provide cameras with good low light performance now.

    See an example of a good 5MP camera here www.raytectapp.com

    It is a password protected site but enter:

    username = arecont

    password = tappav

    then click on the resource centre to see the 5MP camera

    We've tested all the major brands and they all have a good low light camera, this is just an example.

    Hope this helps... it's always better to see the results that can be achieved rather than read a spec sheet.

    Those videos are basically useless IMO. The FPS looks to be around 2 or 3, which is pretty sad.
