    Did my DVR die?

I'm pretty sure I have it narrowed down to one of the two above mentioned DVR's (the nano and the one deleted) but just one more question. Would I be able to take the hard drive from my original Avtech DVR and place it in the now one? I believe it's a 500 GB SATA drive (I may even spring for the 8 channel, even though I currently only have 4 cameras. I like the idea of the IP cameras on the nano)

    Did my DVR die?

I was planning on spending around $300 (4 camera) but it sure does get confusing. Looking for Dahuas, I don't know what is what. Is the EH1004H-4 Nano the one you were referring to?

    Did my DVR die?

Got your PM, but not sure what you mean by cost of a call? There was no information about calling anyone? I just spent the last few hours looking at DVR's. I'm about ready to just select the 4 I am narrowed down to, but them in a hat and pick one. There are just so many choices!

    Did my DVR die?

Thanks for that info Tom. For what I paid, I guess I',m better off just getting a new one. I did like the phone app for the Avtech (eagle eye), but probably should get a DVR of a little better quality. I'm in the USA (Pennsylvania)

    Did my DVR die?

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Avtech for warranty repairs? I purchased it oct 2011, and I think it has a one year warranty

    Did my DVR die?

I know updating the firmware most likely wont help my problem, but I was going to try, but I guess I'm doing that incorrectly. My firmware is 1010N 1003N 1005N 1002N and I think the latest is 1017??? I extracted the 4 .bin files to a USB drive and inserted it into the DVR and powered it on, but it didn't do anything except boot normally.

    Did my DVR die?

About 10 months ago I bought an AVTECH KPD674B and four CNB cameras, and everything was working great until today. I have a VLOSS on 3 of the 4 displays, and narrowed it down to the DVR. I know it is the DVR because all of the cameras will show a display when plugged into the only working input of the DVR (Input 4). Input 1,2, and 3 just show VLOSS on the screen. The weird thing is of the four cameras, the three that quit working were running off of a separate power supply than the input 4 camera. The 3 bad inputs all had camera on or in a detached garage running off of a dedicated 12v power supply. The power supply is still fine, right at 12v. Could a power surge have done something to those 3 inputs? We had thunderstorms right before they died, but we never lost power. Is there anyway to test, or is this thing now toast? (I tired removing power for a few minutes and tried resetting it back to default settings)

    My camera choices

I just added two new cameras. the LBM-20S and the CNB VBM-24VD (even though I ordered the VBM-24VF - not sure what the difference is though) Both cameras list resolution as Ultra High, High and Normal. How do you know which is which? I went through the OSD while setting them up, but wasn't sure how I can select resolution. Edit: Now I know the difference between the VF and the VD (other than $14.00). I called the supplier, and they were very nice, and are shipping me out the correct camera today, and I just have to send the VD camera back, and their expense
  9. That was very informative, but of course I'm still confused. What would be the difference between using a female to female BNC as opposed to a balun? I was thinking that I needed a 4 port balun in my garage (I ran a single cat5e from house to garage to run 3 cameras) but why can't I use female to female BNC's in place of the 4 port balun? Can four of those take the place of this 4 port balun?

    My camera choices

I want to add two additional cameras, and after much reading here, wanted to go with CNB's. It's gets quite confusing though with the LBM, VCM, VBM etc..... Is there someplace that explains what they all that means? I want to add one camera inside my garage, where there is no light at night, and was thinking of the LMB-20s and one for my driveway, but don't see the differences between the VCM-24VF, VCM-24VD and VBM-24VF. I wanted to get the best of those 3, but don't know what the differences are (They are all pretty smiler in price) I don't want to make the mistake of getting the incorrect cameras again. I already have two that I bought and are pretty much junk Are these good choices for a mediocre home system? My DVR isn't the best though, it's an Avtech. I'll be running cat5e w/baluns and a dedicated 12v power supply mounted inside the garage
  11. I know a lot of you guys are tired of the dumb questions, and I'm more than guilty of asking a few. I recently bought a 4 channel system, and decided to just run cat5e cables in conduit underground to my detached garage which is about 10' from my house. I want to have two external cams on the garage and one internal (no audio). Will one run of cat5 handle that? Also, it seems like all of the baluns I find are for the RJ45 connector. Aren't there any that have the BNC and power and I can just attach the twisted pair, or am I better of using the RJ45 connectors? Also, as far at the cat5 cable, is there any brand better than others? I know to stay clear of the copper clad aluminum, but not all I've been looking at state of it's all copper, or copper/aluminum I was hoping for something like this, but where I can just attach the wires directly to the bauln Or can I just use this combo for power and video?

    Camera Quality

I think I'm learning the hard way, that you get what you pay for. I recently bought a 4 channel DVR and 2 - CIB CUC8795 cameras, thinking the cameras might be good because of the 600 TVL. The cables I used might also be part of the problem, but I'm not sure. I connected up my old Sony camcorder to the same wires and the picture was good, but not as good as when I use about a 5' wire (The wires I'm using are about 100' long http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00280KIJ8http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00280KIJ8 Not sure if I'm allowed to post that link) Also, is there a way to turn off the infrared? Last night was the first night I used the camera, and viewing some of the footage today, it is absolutely useless. It appears as if there are swarms of bugs just circling the lens. I wish I could figure out how to post a video of what I'm talking about I'm in the market for two more cameras, so I guess I have lots more reading to do, and I think I need to trash the cables I bought
  13. I just received this DVR today, and I have set it up with 2 cameras, and everything seems to be working great. However, I have been trying to get access through my Android based phone without much success, but that is not what this question is about. During the process of attempting the remote access, I read somewhere about entering 192.168.1.10 into my browser, and in doing do so, it opens a window titled Any Time & Any Where, and asked for login info. For the life of me I can't find anywhere that tells me what the login info is. I tried guest/guest/, admin/guest along with a bunch of others. EDIT: I found the info. (admin/admin) I tried to delete this post but was unable to

    Lots of reading to do

I've been reading these forums for a few weeks now and joined up today. I have to say, the forums are very informative, but also very intimidating. I was all set to buy a surveillance system from Sams Club, until I started reading here. I'm only in need of a 4 channel system, and was also considering wireless, again, until I started reading here. Was looking at the website called usasecuritystore, only because it came up in a search, but haven't found any posts or comments about it on the forums. so not sure if I should stay clear of that site or not. I hate to ask dumb questions, so I will do some additional reading before I jump in and ask my dumb questions Bill
