All hard drives are just the same in the case of reliabilty.

People tend to be deterred of one brand just because of self expirience or rumors. Every company had its' glitches and faulty lines or stocks of drives.

Many won't forgive IBM for its' faulty GXP line and the way they treated their customers, which is worst than the drives being faulty.

I use IBM/Hitachi drives in my systems because of they're cheap in my location, very quiet and does not produce much heat. Didn't have a faulty drive yet (out of ~50).

Nevertheless, I don't recommend any brand over the other. Just buy what ever is cheaper for you. If you need high reliability for critical missions, use SCSI drives.

If you must use the XPC, don't waste your money on a graphics card, you'll get just the same results if you'll use the onboard graphics chip, and will probably have problems viewing your video streams in high resolution either way.

Overall, I don't recommend using this machine as a base for a dvr.

It has expansion slots for 4x Full-Height PCI's and you can fit an Intel based MicroATX motherboard into it. It costs around 100$ including 300W psu. Including a motherboard, that's about the same price as the barebone XPC.

Don't need to split anything since each camera has its' own recording. The video folders should look like "Camera1", "Camera2" etc.

BitDefender is a good solution. I find Antivirus software useless on a dedicated DVR system. I use sygate as a firewall. It's free, feature rich and light on resources.

You can just put the shortcut to the internet connection in the startup folder. This way the connection will be automatically dialed when windows starts.

If you look at the connection's properties you can configure it to redial when line is dropped.

Just saw it at a local dealer's place today. At a glance looks quite impressive . It didn't have any logo on the GUI and is quite cheap.

Can anyone identify the product.

paprotec, does the DF-8000 16ch/480fps truely provides real-time display and recording rates?

Cybex and Nova View are excellent as well.

I found that good cables are most important.

The cheap products usually come with cheap cables.

As said, you get what you pay for.

The application is not resource hungry at all, and the video card is not an issue here.

Now installed the client and it works just fine.

Same TV programs on the second site, and too dark to see anything on the first one.

The compression is nothing special, ~2k for a medium-low quality frame.

From a quick glance it seems to have a bad GUI design.

I'll look into it deeper later.
