What Dell computer to use for an GV-1480A 16 Channel?

I went with the Optiplex 990 tower. i7. 3.4 ghz, 4 GB ram (will bump to 8 or more) 500 GB hdd, Ati 1 GB video card, Win7-64. etc. I had to get some cables to adapt the SATA power to LP4 to power the card. And, added a 1 TB hdd for the video files. I'll likely add an external eSata enclosure for some more space. It's all working fine. CPU utilization rarely gets above 5 - 6 %. Quite amazing. I'm now thinking about getting another one to upgrade my server to SBS2011. thanks guys! Chris
  2. I'm upgrading my camera system and just received a new Dell Optiplex 990 Tower with Win7/64. I installed the GV1480 and downloaded Geovision 8.5. However, driver installation fails. It's like the card is not even seen. I didn't have any problems with the previous PC (Dell Optiplex 745) but don't recall whether WinXP recognized the card upon first boot with it installed. Device Manager on the 990 does not see it. I Geovision 8.4 came with the card when I bought it in march of this year, and is what I had used on the 745. I wanted to go with the latest version to prevent a future upgrade. Any thoughts? Chris

What Dell computer to use for an GV-1480A 16 Channel?

I'm also at the point of needing a more powerful computer for my Geovision system. I presently have a Dell Optiplex GX620 Pentium D (dual core) 3.0 ghz w/4 MB ram, a single 1TB hd and WinXP and a GV1480 card. I have ( 600-TVL cameras and 6 microphones and the CPU utilization is staying at 90% or better. I'm looking at either these three Dells... optiplex 990 http://www.ebay.com/itm/120795449334 precision T3400 http://www.ebay.com/itm/180743494352 Vostro 460 http://www.ebay.com/itm/220883128290 They are all in the same price range. I plan to go all the way to 16 cameras and several more microphones. Thoughts? I *really* do NOT want to buy to small and then regret it. Chris
  4. Hey everyone. I've been running a Geovision GV1480 based system for a few months and figured I needed to get plugged in to find answers from some experts. I use this system at my retail western wear store. So far I have 8 cameras and 6 microphones. The system runs well but I need some help now and then to figure out how some aspects of the system function. Enjoy! Chris
