  1. Yup... its a pain. you now have to go to the ptz add/remove area under accessories, and add the ptz you want, then go back to system to configure the settings... totally stupid

    Windows 7 ultimate 32bit,

GeoVision does not play well with x32 - likes x64 just fine. Yet another reason I will not switch to Windows 7 yet... XP works fine for me. I only use 7 x64 on big machines that require a lot of processing power. Otherwise XP for me. It loads quicker, works fine, no issues.

geovision 16ch not showing all channels

Can you be more specific, which channel #'s are not working. Are they paired?? Meaning this... the following channels are "paired" if you will 1/5/9/13 2/6/10/14 3/7/11/15 4/8/12/16 If you have bad cameras on all of one line (meaning cameras 1/5/9/13 dont work OR 2/6/10/14 dont work, etc...) then its something on the card thats blown. Ive had this happen on numerous cards, where something shorts out the board. i BELIEVE geovision uses chips on the board, where 1 chip does 4 cameras, and if that chip gets fried, you lose those 4 channels. They are usually aligned in a row veritcally too. Thats my experience anyway, if you could be more detailed about which channel #'s are out, that would help.
  4. I feel your pain. I've had them even say it could be my hardware (same hardware i've used for the past year suddenly stops working) GeoVision is a great product, when it works, but let me tell ya, after 5 years installing them they still have a list of bugs... and the bugs are serious ones. 8.4 seemed to have fixed a lot but there are still quite a few (i wionder if they ever fixed the infamous auth server crashing) right now my pet peeve is their mcam controller software that controls the ptzs freezes every few days
  5. Yeah welcome to our world... geovisions "official" answer... format the machine and reinstall everything. Seems to be their answer for EVERYTHING. I had this with 8.3.1 and two PCI cards. I installed a PCI and PCI Express card and upgraded to 8.4 and it seemed to solve the problem, however their mcam controller software still crashes and causes the whole dvr to lock up... cant win

    GV800 Webcam Runtime Error

This is why i havnt switched to Windows 7 full-time on my DVRs yet... still a few quirks to work out.

    GeoVision 8.4.0.1

So looks like 8.4.0.1 is out. I opened two boxes lately and it had the CD. The instructions are still 8.3.3 - the cd sleeve says 8.4.0.0 and the cd itself is a DVD+R that has a sticker on it that says 8.401 Go figure, i just re-did my ghost images yesterday for 8.4 and now 8.4.0.1 is out, ugh.

    GV800 Webcam Runtime Error

Try this... run Internet Explorer as Administrator (right click on Internet Explorer and click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR) We found we had this problem on a few clients who have Windows 7 x32... i havnt had any issues on x64 yet with this... but its strange. Even if the user is an ADMIN you still have to right click, then go to RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. I would find my active x controls would freeze while intsalling and it drove me absolutly nuts. GeoVision doesnt seem to be a 100% fan with windows 7 x32 yet, x64 as i said, no problems, but x32 ive had a few issues

    GV-800 + 3 additional stations. is it possible ?

You can also buy another video card as well. My DVR at my office has 2 1120-16 cards I have 2 video cards (each video card has HDMI, VGA, DVI). I can only use two sources off the video card at once though (can't use three) Soo i basically have 3 digital matrix out, and then my main monitor which is in my server room. Since they are 1120's i also have component out on each one as well. Its split various ways 1 goes to my office 1 goes to COO 1 goes to conference room We can only have a max of 17 cameras though per monitor which sucks, no 32 channels (yet im hoping geovision allows this in future upgrades, id love to be able to see 32 channels on a digital matrix)

    Runtime Error

So I'm getting a runtime error that shows the following: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\GV-800\GV800.EXE This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. This is a GV-800-16 card running 8.4 This is the only DVR up until recently i've ever had this issue with. I just started getting this on another system which runs dual GV-800-16 cards. (8.3.1 software) Both systems run a Quad-Core CPU (LGA 775 based). System #1 that it first started happening to, happened first (duh). I even tried a new hard drive and same results. System #2 was always "freezing" the client says but i never saw it. We ended up putting a quad-core cpu in thinking the cpu/memory was bad since its a dual 16 channel system. I logged in today and saw this error. Are these quad-core cpu's the culprit or is it something else, maybe a bad card? Anybody else have this issue?

    Android App

Anybody know of an Android App to view the GeoVision systems? I got an android tablet for xmas and want to view my cameras. Obviously i've intalled the GV-AView app... but if anybody has ever tried that they can agree, the quality is AWFUL. I can barely make out my cameras. Really bad. Anybody know of any other 3rd party apps maybe that will work, or other ways to have the cameras viewed easily on the droid platform?

    Android App

Thanks. A co-worker told me about the same app. It works a lot better then the geovision app, yes a bit of a pain to setup but works well for my needs

    GeoVision DSP OverLay

Okay so heres a question. We all know that when using the old DSP overlay cards you would always see the images blue or some other solid color. We'd then click the DSP Overlay button and we'd be able to see our cameras on our montor. Well at my office i run 2 1120-16 cards. We are using digital matrix for some LCD tv's and then we are also using the DSP outputs on the cards to go to two other monitors. Now everything works fine. However when I go into my server room and pull up the monitor to do work or align cameras, well yeah the cameras cannot be seen... sooo wheres that damn DSP overlay checkbox now so i can turn it on/off so i can see my cameras... whered they move it to/etc... ive had this issue since 8.3.x but never bothered to post about it...

    GeoVision DSP OverLay

Well mines opposite, always blue/purple (hard for me to tell what real color is, i use Pc anywhere a lot which turns screens purple and locks it in after i log out, so when i actually walk into server room they are still purple) either way, even on a reboot i cant see the images, because they are going out over DSP...but that means i cant focus things or see my ptzs at the damn machine itself

    New setup - GV600(S) on Optiplex 210L

You are correct sir. You need 8.xx to get iPhone support, i forgot which 8.x version though 8.2 maybe?
  17. Yeah I have a feeling its just not compatible. Ive had this happen to me before but not in a long time. Try what the other poster said, run the version checker program from geovisions site to see if its compatible. Other things to try if it is compatible. Uninstall the software completely. Delete the directory. Delete the drivers.Reinstall the drivers from the CD, verify they show up properly. Install software, see what happens.

    New setup - GV600(S) on Optiplex 210L

By the looks of it that looks like an older card... the newer cards are blue. But what gives it away is that AUDIO V3 sticker on the back. Chances are you can't run the newer 8.x software on that. 7.x requries a USB dongle. Lets try this... get a hold of version 6.x if you need it email me i'll throw it up on my FTP i think i have a copy buried somewhere. But 6.x doesnt require a dongle and if that works, then we can pretty much guess its an older card. Also, hide your serial # in future posts.

Anyone used the GV-VS04A MPEG4 Video Server

It should work no problems. We use these constantly, all their mini servers. Since they are "GeoVision" devices you don't need 3rd party licenses. We actually have a DVR that has no physical cameras connected. We have 9 IP cameras and then 2 mini servers hooked up. Now he has 16 existing cameras, i can't say for certain how the numbering will work. Im ASSUMING that when you go to add 4 ip cameras for example, it'll go to spots 17-20... have never tested this though, but it SHOULD. If anything upgrading to 8.4 should allow that expansion. But again ive never tried it, lol. But the licensing answer should help you. As for video quality... looks like the cameras physically connected, i never notice a difference honestly. The only downside is that it is giong over IP and is subject to video loss if network goes down, but other then that, they are good. I use them all the time, actually i use them very VERY often. We use a range of standard 320x240 resolutions and even 720x480 with some client who want bigger pictures. Works fine. You even bet PTZ controls. They are nifty little devices because some of them give you I/O as well which is great. I think you can even hookup a USB storage device if im not mistaken

GeoVision 8.4 Upgrade - READ IF YOU USE PTZ

Another update If you are using Mini Servers with PTZ's attached you will not see it listed automatically like the old days. What you have to do is add the kind of ptz you are using, even though its not physically connected to your DVR its on the IP device, add it anyway. It will then showup in your configuration list (but you dont need to configure it) along with the geovision mini server. Its odd how they do it but i learned this again the hard way after trial/error and talking to geovision
  21. So heres a warning to anybody upgrading to GeoVision 8.4 that uses PTZ, you will have to re-do your PTZ settings. So make a note of all your com ports/ptz camera types and the associated ID numbers for camera mapping. After you upgrade to 8.4 you have to enable PTZ cameras now. They are no longer ALL listed under the system setup area. You actually have to ADD the cameras to showup in that list... its bizar. But under accessories theres a PTZ add/delete area (where you'd do your ptz mapping). From here you add/remove ptz cameras you have installed... then after that you will see them listed under the setup area that you are used to... i learned this after trial/error and speaking to geovision directly. I use two different types of PTZs here on 2 different com ports. I had to re-add the 2nd one and re-do ALL my camera mappings, sucked since i forgot some of my ids but i got it under control. So just a heads up for everybody upgrading, with PTZs its not a simple update you have to do some work.

geovision, 32 channel is it possible?

Short Answer: Yes Long Answer: You need to have a card made recently (within the past ohh say 1.5 years id guess) The older cards that ran v7 probably won't work. When the newer cards shipped with 8.xxx they changed the hardware around, so now you can double up on the cards. If you can run 8.x you shouldnt have any problems (SHOULDNT, there are times when the card is old enough that it may run 8.x but not run dual cards). Basically install the cards, then run the geovision driver installation. If you added a 2nd card, run the driver installation again before you run the software. You should see them all listed. If your seeing errors, chances are you may be using older drivers or one of those cards MIGHT be older. I had this issue with the old mpeg cards. They were discontinued but i found some online. One of them was a newer one, one was not. So i had to get a new one sent out so i could run dual cards. You may have a similar issue if one card is older then the other.

    GeoVision 8.4 Bug

Anybody else running 8.4 with PTZ's?? I just realized im missing my PTZs in the dropdown. All I see is the EverFocus one (which we use) and an I/O one... its missing all the others, and we have a 2nd type of PTZ we use... sooo something odd is going on here. I think i got this version from ezcctv.com not from the CD... any thoughts?
