Has anyone tried Windows 7 with Geovision

I don't wanna get into an OS battle with rory as i shared his opinions also before i made a full-blown switch to W7. I like it, but do miss windows XP. I installed W7 with my GV-2008 card today worked like a charm. No issues at all. I will still rely on Windwos XP for my dvr's, unless i have a client who uses a raid array, in which case windows 7. I do feel that the system runs a bit faster, thats probably because W7 takes advantage of the quad core better then XP. But like i said, its a preference with OS's i think. Im sure rory will love it sooner or later, but its still new and not everybody is in love with it. It does take a little more effort to TWEEK w7 for a DVR as its got lots of EXTRAS not needed, but the fact is, it WILL work with geovision which is the big concern.

GV-2008 - Can This Run Under Windows 7

I think i answered my own question after reading another thread, that it works fine.
  5. So heres my question. I know (according to experience and reading) that the GV-2008 will run (im talking about the card itself installed on a DVR) under Windows XP. Duh... and from what I read Windows 2003 and Windows Vista... but can i install this on a Windows 7 machine? The drivers for 7 are similar if not the same as vista for most hardware devices, sooo can I do this? I only ask because I like W7 over vista, and I need to support drivers larger then 2TB in my OS (its a raid system), windows xp doesnt support that, can't use windows xp 64 bit because geovision doesnt support it. I have Vista but hate vista... 2003 i have trouble with some drivers for video cards and audio... sooo windows 7 would be my logical choice if i can do it.. anybody have experience with geovision cards and W7?

Has anyone tried Windows 7 with Geovision

This answers my question I had about W7 and geovision. I have dual 2008 cards im using (we spec'd them out to a client a while ago and we HAVE to use them, i know they are discontinued). I'll be upgrading to W7 tomorrow since we need to support more then 2TB drives. I run a quad-core but i don't use an i3/i7 chipset. Im using the Q5500 i think or something like that. Socket 775. I like to use those because they are less expensive and are still pretty powerfull. i7 may be your problem since its a newer chipset and came to market after geovision had their cards in production. Im sure thats the issue. I think if you disable hyperthreading it fixes the issue i read somewhere though

    No More GV-Lopp Through?

I love the matrix function, I really do. But thats only usefull if im using VGA monitors. A lot of my clients have older BNC style monitors, or newer BNC style LCD monitors that MY COMPANy sold them, lol. One case we find this to be a pain is when we do modulation, its driving us nuts. I've had a bunch of customers ask about this. I know dedicate micros (although ive never realy used their stuff) has outputs built right onto the system. Camera goes in, and goes right out if need be, for each channel. Which is GREAT if a client needs to look at one camera. Going forward im pushing the digital matrix, but a lot of clients are just swapping out their old systems for the geovision ones, and now we can't really do exactly what needs to be done.

    No More GV-Lopp Through?

So my supplier (hi) told me GeoVision is no longer making the GV-Loop through card... why is this exactly? Those things were great. Very cost effrective solution for me when I needed to output up to 16 cameras to a secondary device without losing signal quality. Anybody know any distributors/re-sellers who have any left? The two i have left seem to have problems, since they came from used machines years ago. I need to obtain 1 for my new office, as well as 1 for a client whos GV-Loop went bad. And for other clients who might want one down the line and don't wanna fork up the dough for a more expensive option

    Upgrade to 8.3.2.

USA Vision is the US company that handles GeoVision. If you contact them, and provide them with your serial number, they should provide you with the new software. Thats what he is referring to.

    Auth Server Problem: Keeps Closing

We've noticed this problem on a bunch of DVR's. Our DVR's are running 8.3.1 and we're using Auth Server on a few. We have in the Startup folder and have it set to minimize upon startup. For the most part, it seems to work fine. But we've been getting a few complaints from two clients stating that the auth server isn't running and they cannot login. Has anybody had any problems like this where Auth server just closes sometimes???? Anybody have a fix?

    GV-600 price check?

Yeah thats not a bad price.
  12. Interesting... i don't like the idea of hosting my access control stuff on another companies network... rather keep it 100% in house for my clients and let their own box run as the server (example: IEI runs Linux on their controller which stores everything... yes its a little slow booting up, about 45 seconds, but its stored on site in the same box) A great concept don't get me wrong, just not for me... if i chose to do it all in-house id be in the same boat as Topaz, adding a panel to add on more readers rather then simply adding on an I/O or Reader board into the box itself. Thats the one thing I like about IEI (besides web-based interface hosted locally), expansion boards right in the box, i don't hafta add another box somewhere taking up real-estate. Most of our access clients are in NYC, space is limited there, so the less I can install, the better... and a lot of them don't want it hosted elsewhere (that means monthly fees that they shouldnt need)
  13. Figured id post another message on here because I just did a Topaz install today. I did a two panel system. 4 Port as my main and 2 port as the secondary. It was for an elevator, but Im not setting it up as an ELEVATOR in the system (no need to, all the topaz does is grants access to use hte elevator buttons, and there are no door contacts, its strickly for elevator). Install went, well easy enough. I had some issues since the elevator company wasnt providing me with low-power, so im still waiting on them to give me low power. Other then that, it was an easy install. Hardest part was figuring out how to connect the two systems using RS232... as I'm always the guy in the office programming the software rather then using the RS232, but now that I know how its a piece of cake. Im STILL not a fan of the software. I had to load it onto my laptop and put the USB dongle on and its still slow to add access cards and the fact that I need a dedicated computer running, with the software running, in order to keep track of card swipes is something I don't like. Even if i use a normal computer people use everyday, i have to format it so that it has low security levels for the GE and people still continue to close the software... BUT on the other hand their software IS pretty easy to use. Its simple to configure readers. The IEI box is designed for a PROGRAMMER to use and can be kinda tricky if you don't label things properly... as I learned installing IEI. I like the Topaz because its a smaller box, and easier to see whats going on in front of you (easy to read the circuits/etc...). I don't like Topaz because its not as easy to program an IP, gotta change dip switches/etc... and if i want to add more cards after 4, i hafta add a new panel. I like topaz because its a smaller box (probably because you cant add readers inside the box itself) and the overlay for the circuit board is nicely laid out. Right now, I recommend both for my clients. IEI for those who don't want a dedicated computer and want the ability to upgrade in the future without adding more boxes. Topaz for my everyday systems that might have 8 doors or less and don't really plan to upgrade and need a smaller footprint at first. It really depends on what my customer wants. Right now, if i had to say "which do you prefer" i'd honestly probably recommend the Topaz w/dedicated server, only because the software IS easier to use (despite it being a lot slower to use) and for an installation point of view, its easier for me to setup my contacts/readers because of the nice easy to see screen printed overlay.
  14. Heh hey there Sal... i might as well comment We've been using the GE system for about a year ourselves (buying from you guys as you know). Its not a bad system, but its not easy to program. You need a dedicated computer always running their software to log activity. Its kinda a pain to setup on the network because you hafta keep changing dip switches. Your limited to a max of 4 readers/outputs per system (which as you know requires you to buy another unit). We've been playing with the IEI system and at first I didn't like the construction but after installing it today I can say its a lot better. It runs Linux and doesnt require a computer at all, its got its own built in web server and its 100% web-managed. You want more doors, you just add them on with a card. You can add up to 7 more cards. Expandability is great, you just buy a box with a node controller, instead of the whole control box/etc... It'll be our new access control to use over the GE. The GE was nice but like I said, things we did NOT like were max of 4 readers/outputs and the interface was horrid, took forever to make changes.

    Geovision 8.1

Can anybody put up a mirror for the downloads?? GeoVisions site is slow as we all know.
  16. I have a client with 5 stores. He has a DVR in each store. He would like to be able to sit at his main office and check out the video logs for each store... now we are aware we can do this already with RemotePlayback and ive set this up, but he is not happy with it (nor am I). It does not give you a nice way to play back video logs. It prompts you everytime it downloads a video segment which is annoying, and after it downloads all the video footage from a time frame, you can't play it all back without opening up a folder and attempting to find the downloaded video, and even then its not that great. Its just not that smooth to use when trying to playback larges amount of footage (an hour time span here and there) He likes the video/audio log on the main DVR and we've setup that LanViewCtrl on his desktop to playback local footage (although everytime he starts the software, hes forced to re-located the path for the DVR footage which is annoying)... Does anybody have any ideas on what we can do here... being he has 5 store fronts and wants to be able to playback an hour time span here and there across different DVR's in different locations around town...

    GeoVision Drive capacity

Which motherboard did you plan to use... the geovision cards can be iffy with different motherboards. For example... we used 1 model mobo and tried to use 1 onboard PATA (IDE) and then 4 SATA drives, it wouldnt boot. When we tried the next motherboard up in line (which replaced the mobo we used actually) it worked flawlessly... so if your system freezes during post, you might want to try a different motherboard... but if its not freezing during post and its all booting fine. the HD's will read perfectly, justadd each drive/folder into the GeoVision setup screen.

geovision dvr is a bandwidth hog

Sounds like they wern't that professionally built... we install these things left and right and they never eat up bandwidth unless the DVR is on a DSL with 16 cameras being monitored over the internet... sounds like there might be some kind of virus on there or spyware that was installed with the system...

    My DVR Specs

I think i've finally gotten my specs down for the DVR's our company is setting up. We've tried numerous combos over the years and have had problems during boot with multiple boards, but here is one that we havn't had a problem with yet: Motherboard: MSI 915GVM3-V CPU: Intel P4 2.66GHz (Socket 775) Video Card: PCI Express GeForce 6200 LE TC (we've been using the eVGA brand board) HD: 200GB ATA100 (any size will do, we've just been using 200GB's) Memory: 512MB DDR2 (PC2 3200) (we've been using Kingstont brand) We've been using cases with a 300w Power Supply. So far the systems run stable, we've also added DSP cards without any problems locking up and GV-NET cards. We have ghost images we use which are plain windows installs with custom stuff we threw in for our clients (we have a remote interface clients can login to, as we have many clients with multiple DVR systems)

    Geovision Version 6.03 Software

I believe the newer cards require the new software (8.0) because of the security. The older software requires that USB dongle, the same as older cards required the USB dongle

    GV-800-16 + DSP Card Problems

So we're having some problems at our office. We install these things left and right, never have problems, but our own office system, tons of problems. We have a GV-800-16 card in our system, works fine. We're using 8.02 software. We have 2 DSP cards that we are trying to use. Back in the 7.0 days we had the DSP working fine with the 7.0 version card. Now we're using a new card and the same old DSP cards. Two cards now have this effect, when they are used and drivers loaded (ive tried 8 and 7 drivers for the DSP), we get like a teal color for the cameras or a tealish static look (no picture visible). Its very odd... Anybody having trouble using DSP cards with the new 8.0 version cards???
  22. Looks normal to me... im still learning about geovision, but i know in 7.0 and earlier the multiview software blurred things, with 8.0 the images are more clear when using remote software. I use the MultiCam remote viewer for 8.0 and its clear. I know if i use the multicast portion of the software like you are using, then things are blurry. Try enabling TCP and using the Remote View software from the geovision website. You can use 8.0's remote view on older GV versions.

    GeoVision Tutorial

I need to supply some clients with a tutorial on how to use the GeoVision system. Does anybody know where there are some nice how-to guides? We need something simple so they can look at pictures and follow along to do simple things like zoom in/out while using remote playback and how to use the remote playback system more in depth basically... anybody have anything?

    Changing Camera Names, Remotely

I just setup a client with 7 DVR's (GeoVision GV-800 16 ports in each) and a Center V2 workstation. We have TCP, Webcam and CenterV2 running on them. Is there a way to remotely change the names of the cameras. This client is huge and the DVR's are scattered throughout an entire NYC block (no joke, they literally have an office that takes up a NYC block on 2 floors). Also, the time sync feature for Center V2, does that actually work? We set it up but the DVR's seemed to have different times.

    Changing Camera Names, Remotely

Not really, its a local lan, no need to port forward. BUT we had them put the ports in their routers anyway in case they wanted access from home. But all the ports are already setup, its just a matter of installing the software.
