  1. I gave the power supply a quick check over and it seemed ok. The camera works at night time but it doesn't work during the day (blackout during the day). I assumed that meant it had been sun damaged, and that's why I'm looking for a new one.
  2. Hi all, I currently have this CCTV camera, but I the lens has gone as it slowly started flickering and now it has complete blackout - http://www.surveilzone.com/700tvl-sony-ccd-effio-ir-weatherproof-camera-9-22mm-lens-cc1390 Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on a similar bullet camera (with the same functionality especially OSD control on the lead, BNC connection, motion detection, night vision) but I'd like one with a wider viewing angle. It is only needed to cover an area of around 10 metres, but the wider the viewing angle the better. If anyone can advise on any bullet CCTV cameras that meet my spec I'd be really grateful. PS - I am in the UK, so I'm sure if this matters with availability of models of CCTV cameras Regards Jp
  3. Hi all, My DVR has suddenly stopped sending me motion alert emails with snapshots in it. It has been working perfectly for a few years. I have tried the following to get it working: - Reset the DVR via the H.264 software and set it all up again - Hard reset by removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard - Tried different SMTP email accounts - Reset the CCTV camera - Reset the LAN router / hub and checked all firewall services and port forwarding services are intact Is there a switch inside the DVR box which controls the recording and / or sending of emails? Each time the CCTV camera detects motion I can hear a single 'clicking' sound inside the DVR box which usually means that it has been triggered to record and send an email. There is a first 'click', and then a second 'click' a few seconds later. It has always made this sound and it used to result in an email being sent to me with snapshot images from the camera attached. Could this be a faulty component inside the DVR box? The software has an option to send a test email with a snapshot. When I send a test email, the email comes through but it has no snapshot images contained. I'm not even sure if this test uses the DVR to send an email because I don't hear the clicking sound from within the DVR. I'm struggling to diagnose where the problems lies: the CCTV camera, the DVR box, the network or email settings. Has anyone had similar problems or can anyone help me diagnose the issue? Are there any parts on the motherboard which control the sending of emails? Many thanks in advance, Jp
  4. That's ok! If you don't ask (properly), you don't get!
  5. Hi all, I have had my DVR and CCTV system setup correctly for the past few months; remote access from WAN, sending sensor alert emails correctly via an SMTP email account etc. Now all of a sudden, the email function has stopped working and I cannot figure out why. Everything else is working fine. I am able to access the SMTP email account via the telnet CMD prompt in Windows, so port 25 isn't being blocked by my ISP. The SMTP is standard (it requires a username and password but no SSL / TLS etc). The port is 25, here are the settings that my DVR accepts: SMTP hostname: http://mail.mydomain.com Encryption mechanism: none Port: 25 From address: web@mydomain.com Password: mypass To address: myemail@myemail.com My subscription to the SMTP mail account is still current, it is an SMTP account that we use at work. Here is a screen for my DVR settings: Here are the settings for my sky broadband (I've erased IP addresses for security) Do the settings match up correctly or do I have some of the IP addresses in the DVR settings entered incorrectly? I've tried other email accounts too, such as Gmail SMTP etc and I simply cannot get it to work. I get the error: "Unable to connect to email account" I have tried forwarding port 25 to my DVR in my router settings - but this made no difference. All outbound services are already allowed on my router. All the systems that are in place work just fine, and that's why I think that there may be a problem with my network being able to connect to the email account, but I have no idea what it could be. That's why I have initially posted my broadband settings; so you could see if they match up to the DVR settings up correctly. Does anyone have any ideas at all? Any help will be much appreciated. regards jp
  6. Thank you ever so much - it was this that was the problem!!!
  7. Ok thank you - ill give that a try tomorrow and let you know how I get on
  8. Hi thanks for the reply. Sorry I shouldnt have put http:// - I don't use that in my settings. My router is using DHCP already. I've reserved the IP of 192.168.0.11 for my DVR. When you mention setting my DNS in the DVR, is that where it says "preferred DNS" in the DVR settings screen? Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi all, I recently set up a single camera to my 4 channel Tossun DVR. I have set up a motion detection email alert which will send a snap shot of the captured movement to my desired email address. The problem is that for every different captured motion event, the image that is sent in the email is always the same. It never changes. For example, my cat crossing the screen is the first event that was captured and the correct image was emailed to me. However, if I walk in front of the camera the same image of my cat will be sent again !!! It's as though it is stuck in a loop. Any ideas of how to fix this? I've rebooted the DVR system but it hasn't fixed the problem. Any help would be great Regards Jp
  10. Hi all, My first post I have been looking around for a DVR system that will do the following: - night vision / ability to record at night - 10m minimum - record continuously for at least a month - allow me to backup video from the DVR on to a USB stick or other external storage - 2 indoor cameras that send video wirelessly to the DVR would be great. Wiring the cameras to the DVR is possible, but I would prefer wireless. - ability to view real-time footage from my iPhone via an app. - security alerts to an email address / telephone number - ability to view recorded footage on PC I have seen these 2 products, but I am not sure if the cameras are wireless and whether they send security alerts: - Storage Options 53317 DIY Home CCTV Kit with 500GB DVR and 2 Cameras - Storage Options 52405 CCTV 500GB DVR with 2 Outdoor Camera BUNDLE Does anyone know of a system that can do all of the above? I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me find something. kind regards Jonathan
  11. Very strange - its suddenly started working again!
  12. Thanks for the help. I'll try to pinpoint where the problem is. Happy new year!!
  13. What kind of converter is that then?
  14. The only connection on the tv that looks vaguely similar to the one on the camera is the aerial / RF input
  15. Hi all. I've had my system successfully up and running now for a few weeks - so thank you all very much, your help was awesome. However, I turned off the dvr as it required a reboot due to a change of settings. Now I am seeing "video loss" and no image. The camera is powered up as it has a light to indicate this. Ive tried my camera on different channels 1-4 and still no image. It is pointing towards a faulty video signal cable or faulty dvr box. Does anyone have any ideas how I can test which it is?
  16. Have you considered MOTION DETECTOR availability also, which will save you hours of scanning through to see recorded action, and save space on your hard drive also. Hi - yes I think my DVR and camera support this, luckily!!! I will be getting set up this weekend so hopefully all will go well. No doubt I'll be back here asking about settings etc
  17. Thanks, the link to the cable is here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/CCTV-Shotgun-Cable-Power-Connected/dp/B004UDJ6AI The description is badly written, but here it is: 10M CCTV Cable BNC + Power Cable With Connectors? it is used to BNC surveillance camera to any security monitor or DVR, or TV, or VCR and so on. BNC connectors crimped to RG59+2 (shotgun) DC 2.1 plug and socket are solder connection to RG59+2 (shotgun) for permanence conducting. (the cable with the screw terminal may not well conduct due to screw lose, threaded and corrosion). Specification: Connector BNC Connector, DC 2.1mm Connector Total Length 10m Color Black Package Content 1 x Video Power Cable Description: * Power and video signals transmitting in one cable. * Easy to install this plug and play cable with your security camera, no power point needed. I think that is saying it has BNC and power connectors crimped to the cable. - BNC connector to camera - BNC connector crimped to a RG59+2 (shotgun) - BNC connector to DVR - BNC connector crimped to a RG59+2 (shotgun) - The wire has a DC 2.1mm connector to plug into a power adapter, which plugs at the wall. the only thing i dont understand there is the "BNC connector crimped to a RG59+2 (shotgun)" Does that mean the RG59+2 is the connection that attaches to the DVR?
  18. Ok guys, I've bought the DVR and camera below: - CCTV H264 Standalone DVR Zeus MK2 Lite 4 500GB - CCTV Camera Sony Effio 700TVL 9-22mm IR OSD What cable to do I need to hook this up? I've been looking at: 10M CCTV Pro RG59 +2 (Shotgun) Cable BNC + Power Cable Connected Will this cable work? Will I need a power supply adapter for the camera, as it doesn't ship with one? Is there anything else that I need to get up-and-running?
  19. I see. Any idea on cameras, I'm looking to spend no-more than £60 ($100) per camera really?
  20. At the front of the house, maybe not as there is a street lamp about 4 metres the left of the front door. The light isn't brilliant though, it gives off the orange kind of light. At the rear it is very dark so I think IR would be needed. Ok So cat5 is the cable and a balun is a converter that lets you plug power into the cameras whilst transmitting the video from camera to DVR?
  21. I'm really struggling to find a camera. Can anyone help? What things should I look out for apart from IR night distance and BNC connection? What average price should I be looking at for a mid-range camera? Also, what kind of cable should be used? Thanks once again.
  22. Ah I see, outdoor cameras it is then! Ok I will look at the cameras that you suggested. Much appreciated.
  23. Thank you for your reply. This DVR looks very suitable: Apollo Zeus Lite 4 Channel H264 DVR with 500GB Hard Drive (http://www.ielectronic.co.uk/cctv/digital-video-recorder-dvr/apollo-zeus-lite-4-channel-h264-dvr-with-500gb-hard-drive.html) I would like infra-red cameras that I can use with the above product (mid-range like you have outlined). Ideally I would place these cameras inside the house, looking through a glass window to the area surrounding my house. Do you have any ideas of what I could use? Really appreciate everyone's help here.
  24. Unfortunately I'm at the bottom end of that scale. £200 or $320 is myth limit really. If anyone can help me find any parts to put together for that amount it would be great.
  25. Hi thanks for the info. I guess wired is the way to go then. Do you have any kits in mind or any links to products in mind? Thanks again
