Just got training on it last week. Seems like a pretty good little system, although the 50 does not have nearly the feature set that the 440 and 1500 have (No user photos, video management, live monitoring, badging, elevator control, or threat levels on the 50). I also think the setup programming is a little more complicated than it should be for an off the shelf prduct. It's more complicated than the HUBManager setup (if you're familiar with that). There's a graphical layout of the "blades", but that is only for naming the readers, inputs and outputs, not for combining them into one access portal (that is done elsewhere). The 440 and 1500 do have some interesting features, but the 50 is a bit lacking. The 440 and 1500 also interface with the newer Dedicated Micros DVR's. Overall, it's an ok panel, but I think my boss is not pleased with it not being a dealer-only item

Couldn't download anything. It all came up as a dead link

You may be right there, but I can't find a good link to download it.

CD-R, should I have tried RW? You'd think either would work...

interesting that the picture was taken on top of a Dedicated Micros DVR box. Do you have one of those also? The place I took that one out of has a Dedicated Micros, and the One in the pic was a loaner while the DM was being repaired.
Update... I tried exporting video to the CD burner, and I got 20 discs of GARBAGE. Discs not readable in Windows. My CD burning program shows there's data there, but I can't access any of it.

Found it. After looking through the setup programming, I found (in the email setup) the domain for Rifatron, and from there, I found the correct model info. However, none of the links to user manuals, or downloads seem to work. Oh well, at least now I know And you do, too

No s/n, 8 channel, built in CD-RW, and a 150GB HD.

Look familiar to anyone? It doesn't have a brand name anywhere to be seen, and I have no book for it. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

If the building has a small office inside, you could try a small space heater with a thermostat to keep it up to a manageable temprature. Maybe keeping it inside a lock box will hold in the heat it normally generates enough to keep it within tolerances. Or, you also might try taking the heater assemblies that comes in some camera housings and mounting that inside a lock box. Just some thoughts, hope they help

Yep... Rita came through here. My wife left the day before they called for a mandatory evacuation. The area is still trying to get back on it's feet, but we did get off lucky

Yes, that's normal for a multiplexer. It shows you a digitized image when displaying in multi screen mode. I don't know of any soultion for the video output other than 1) the old analog quads, and 2) one for one monitor/camera ratio.

I've had several hard drive failures, and so far all of them have been linked to power failures. Those UPS are worth their weight in gold

I've used AIM, Yahoo, and ICQ ahd have had hardly any problems. The trick is to only accept messages from people you have in your list. You have to make friends outside through other sources (like here), and add them. But, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
BTW, I'm sirflannel on yahoo, SirFlannel on AIM, and sirflannel on ICQ ( a stretch, I know) Cheers

Question... maybe you can answer, maybe not. In regards to video compression. I understand that video compression saves space by recording a key frame of the entire image, then after that only records the changes in the frame. I have heard that in the UK, they don't allow the video compression because it doesn't record the whole image all the time, and can be subject to errors. One company I have seen uses jpegs only and claims this is why. Anyone with the straight scoop? Thanks

Window XP Pro (OEM) and product keys

Odd. I bought XP Home OEM, and I just checked my invoice, and there's a notation that says the CD key is on the outside of the plastic wrap. It was, and I had no trouble. OEM's are functionally no different than the retail versions. They just offer it at a discount rate for someone building a system (and they're only supposed to be sold with a piece of hardware). Odd problem, glad you got a replacement.
