PTZ Longevity safe to buy used?

I was wondering it is is safe to buy a used PTZ from GE Kalatel. The units were made in 2001. I believe their 18x or 30x. From what I understand these were commercial units and once retailed for almost 3k bucks. The owner states they were just set for zoom purposes and were not set on continuous pan. My biggest concern is that there old and tired and may be burnt out. Or do these things go for years and years generally trouble free. please advise thanks
  3. I have 10 analog 700 tvl cameras currently ready to be installed. Can I future proof my system so I can have the cameras wired where if i decide to upgrade to 10 digital IP cameras in the future I can just easily unplug the wires from the old dvr and plug them into the new NVR for the IP cameras? is there a universal connection for both type of systems where this is possible without affecting picture quality? Id like to kill two birds with one stone

    two monitors different rooms

Hi Id like to have a second monitor in a different part of the house just for viewing purposes, is this possible? I Know the main one you can pull up each individual camera and enlarge the image size and the second one downstairs would not be possible to do it. It would be more just for viewing purposes. I have a GE Hybrid DVR, I don't believe it has a hdmi output so is this possible, if so how do you suggest it be done? can i get away with just a smart TV with internet ability and just turn to a certain channel to see the cameras in the second room? thanks

    Legal Issues? Recording neighbor's activity

18 post later and still no one knows if he could record his neighbor lol do you really have an expectation of privacy over a 6 foot fence in your backyard, I don't think so. you can probably see the whole backyard from your window upstairs. In my area its like that Most neighbors who are worried about cameras pointing there way have some serious things to hide or involved in shady dealings. your neighbors sound like skells/perps keep that bad boy rolling, next they will be breaking into your house to feed there habits

    monitor ? optimal size

Hi Id like some advice on what size monitor to use with my system. Id like to have the images very sharp and clear especially when i click on the screen to enlarge one of the specific cameras to go into full screen mode if there something is happening, without the image being pixelated and grainy. The camera store has a 40" monitor for display various cameras they had. but when you enlarged the image its wasnt very crisp and lacked detail. my cameras are all 700 TVL with sony effio version one chips I picked up a samsung 720p monitor 32". I can return it if its too big and wont fit my needs. My biggest concern is having a real sharp clean image when I enlarge a viewing area for a particular camera i want to pull up. any suggestions on what will meet my needs? thanks

    industry standard brands

In general, what brands in security cameras and DVR's are known for producing the highest quality along with the longest lasting reliability? Im sure like in any other electronic industry there are some brands to just steer clear from as there known to be nothing but problems and have a high breakdown rate. Thanks

    security camera upgrade ? tvl

ahh ok i see, so ill focus more on camera position and angle where i think a possible perp may enter or exit the property. or even pin point it near the cars they would try to break into. Ive read on here that in order to get the perps face in the shot to not place the cameras so high overhead, it may show his bald spot or baseball cap well but not necessarily the details of his face. good advice!

Thanks lets see if i shoot for 15 fps then which ones would you suggest? and how long do dvr's typically last? i see many on ebay used that are broken and just for parts, seems like many of these tend to fail thanks
