Got ya. So cat 5 as last option but if power is already there and does not need to be run through the cat 5, up to 2000 ft. can be achieved? Thanks for the response.

I have noticed that there are two grades of shielding. One is 80% and the other is 95%. My question is if you save on cost because of 15% less shielding does it have an effect on quality of picture? My logic is that you would use the 95% around high voltage.

Insurance requirment for off-site video recording?
galen replied to VST_Man's topic in General Digital Discussion
I would ask around at other motels that you know are not necessarily chain owned. You should get some good info there. -
Phil, I could be wrong but I don't think you have to advertise that you have a camera on. Now, if you have a sign that states that you have cameras and you don't then that may be grounds for a lawsuit. Around here if you record audio, my must state that clearly with a certain sized sign.

CamDVR, I agree with everything said here, but one thing you want to remember is that, the WZ16 has 18 LED's that are going to suck power. Its OK to use the 12 volts on a short connection but for the long runs, that's why the manuf. builds in both. I always use the 24V source for over 150 feet with cam's with a fair amount of LED's. (Day/night cams) Hope this helps.

I would do this first. Right here on the forum is an ad for signs. Buy one and post it right on the dumpster. This will stop a lot of the illegal dumping. If they continue, then go to step two.

You can find lease equipment, for what you want to do. But your going to have to use a credit card so incase it gets stolen. Check around in your area.

Phil, that also could be a ground loop problem. But in a lot of cases, it simply a connection problem.

I know some DVR's require a static ip to remote view or operate correctly. I have a dynamic ip. But like a DVR that has to have a static IP. Any solution? Thanks
-
Thanks AV. Thats what I was looking for. The isp I have seen price their static ip's for much more. So this works around that issue. I just found some software that works with some routers also.

Its a wireless point to point network. Dynamic is all they offer. I have a download speed of 2.5 meg, upload of 760 kbps. So thats not an issue.

I have taked to one person on this forum and he was very nice and had good info. He told me to post a question on a couple of units I'm looking at. I have a carwash and it needs to be updated. Old stuff thats 4 years old A single channel everfocus with an Advanced Technology Video DPX16 multiplexer behind it. This was a leftover from when I had a tape recorder. I'm real handly and I installed all the cameras and central power box. I even mounted a camera on my automatic. Just playing around. Cameras are addictive! I am looking at the Nuvico turbo 16200 and since I have been on here reading alot about different boxes, I see that this ICRealtime is very nice too. But I think its too pricey for me. Will the Nuvico be OK?
-
Thanks Rory, for the unbiased response. I know several are pushing the ICR but I'm not going to pay 4700 for a dvr. I don't care how nice it is. I just got a Pioneer Elite 50 plasma and didn't pay that.

Thanks, I'm suppose to demo one from Issic in Arkansas Haven't done it yet. He may have called but I've been busy. Had trouble with my wireless connection at my business. I'll get that fixed later today then maybe I can see what it will do.
