Good job. I was thinking of buying one of those

Sadly i need to make nanny cams..

From my perspective telling next babysitter they are being recorded will prevent most problems. You may run into problems putting them into bedrooms and bathrooms though obviously

    Hidding a CCTV DVR

You could build a complete false wall or ceiling in a closet if you was crafty. Or put it in a VCR no one wants one of those haha

    Business with 5 static Ips.

Are you using the gateway provided by your isp or is it pointing to your router?
  5. I am replacing a dome camera that someone else mounted. (Actually 2). Both seemed to have went out in the last week. They are ICrealtime el750w dome cameras that are mounted on the wall via an arm. They are nice looking cameras but I can get a CNB with wall mount for less than $250. Problem is on one of the installs the person put the connection in an junction box then hooked up the flexibile gray conduit to it and ran it about 3 feet around a gutter and around the side of the building, then drilled a hole into the arm for the wall mount and siliconed the conduit to it. It does not look very good at all. I plan on placing a weather proof junction box next to the wall mount then hooking a small extension going from the junction box through the small hole in the bottom of the junction box. Should be Wall mount then small extension cable for video and power then weatherproof junction box that has conduit going around corner to other junction box. Other idea would be to find a dome camera that I can hook a conduit straight into or mount the camera onto the front of a weatherproof junction box granted I can find one big enough.
  6. Whether you are a home installer amature or a professional why did you get started? If you are a professional installer getting paid for it why did you get started in this business? If you installed some cameras at your house why did you do it? I'm not a professional but I do install cameras for a friend of mine at his businesses because I do know how to run his dvr and network it properly. Small electronics have always fascinated me. After starting to install the cameras at my friends business I am going to install some cameras at my home in the next couple weeks. I am still in the IP vs analog debate with myself Maybe I'll do a mix of the two. I decided to install the cameras mainly because I think it would be fun to be able to see whats going on in my neighborhood and around my house during the day and night. We have hardly any thefts in this small town and I know that because I am a local cop. Thats the other reason why, I know I have made some poeple upset in my last couple years here and I would like a little bit of extra protection for my family.

    wiring in attic?

How do you guys do.the wiring in the attic? Lay the cables on the insulation (cat 5 and power cable) or do you staple them to the trusses. Other option is one big piece of conduit going through center of attic and branch out when needed which seems overkill but neater. I plan on putting flex conduit or rigid in the walls and it could possibly make it easier to.run.a néw cable in case I add another or have to replace a cable
  8. What website are you guys using for your satellite photos of your residence? I see people with photos and they have their cameras marked with the field of view and such.

how to get a satellite photo

If you're linking to Dropbox, make sure the file is within your Public folder. Edit: Ahh, it's showing now. Yes I always forget to put it in my public folder. I love dropbox though.
  10. Any idea on how to mount the Dahua cameras onto the eves with junction boxes? I need the junction boxes because otherwise there is going to be way to much wiring to pack back into the hole I drilled and I dont want monster holes in my eves I found an outdoor 2 gang outlet box that was about 10 bucks that I am going to try. I thought about the 4x4x2 junction box that looks fantastic to mount the camera to but its too far away (50 miles one way) to justify driving there.

how to get a satellite photo

Found one in google maps. Couldn't find a way to download the image so I just did a screen shot.
  12. System is not setup yet. When it is the power will be next to it.
  13. What if the power box is not next to the dvr then what do you do? Also how do you connect the wires into the powerbox if the powerbox does not have a dc jack and only screw terminals
  14. Thanks for the input. You guys reaffirmed my idea of thinking of just replacing the cameras and dvr. I will probably just pickup a qvis (dahua) dvr and 4 of the cheaper $40 cameras. I would like to run separate power wire instead of cat5 because it looks cleaner. Am I the only one that seems to do that anymore?
  15. I'm using the Dahua 650 dome camera. Not that much room behind them
  16. I'm curious also on other options I am in the process of running my wires to my eves slowly over the next few days. I don't know if I want to hook them up to a junction box so I can easily put the wire to include a balun into the box in case I need to swap out cameras in the future or adjust the OSD via the joystick. I don't want to make a huge hole in my eve to be able to push the balun back into plus I am worried about my balun coming loose and going into the attic. If that happens there is a slim chance I am ever getting it back
  17. Any photos of that thing in action?
  18. I got my Dahua 650 dome cameras on Friday. I do not currently have cameras installed at my residence and I was planning on installing them on my wooden eaves. My eaves slant downwards at a fairly extreme angle. I went to put my camera up there to test the video and I cannot view my driveway (when I put it directly in front of my driveway) unless I pull the camera about an inch from the eve and point it more downwards. I think if I put a space such as a junction box on the eve and then screw my camera to that then it will work. What other options do you guys have? If I move the camera down the residence a little bit towards the middle I can get a video but its to far away for my liking
  19. Can you pm me or email me where to get one. I've never seen one
  20. Sorry for the late reply Shockwave. I would like to mount it on the wall but its brick and I don't want to have to start doing that. I think I am going to just put it at an angle and actually put two cameras side by side. One looking at the front door and one looking towards the driveway. My house is a one story ranch style house with a steep incline roof so its not very tall. In fact if you jumped most people could touch the camera without any tools if you put it on the eve but thats high as I can get it. I think I'm going to try the octagon outdoor box thats either metal or plastic and put it outside. I'm going to try to spray paint it red which would match the house and hope to make it blend in. Has anyone ever painted a junction box before thats plastic or metal?
  21. Anyone use a "bulk cable wall plate" to install about 4 or 5 camera video wires into a closet for your dvr? I am using cat5e cable with baluns. Its between the wall plate or running a conduit down from the attic through the ceiling. I figured if I used a wall plate I could put the video wire anywhere I wanted to without having to go behind the shelves or notching out behind the shelf for the conduit

    bulk cable wall plate

What kind of dc jack do you have
  23. True I was thinking the junction box would allow me a place to put the balun and such though. they are ugly though.
