PTZ - configure with a DVR

as far as im aware a ptz will need the 2 core Screened beldon type cable or cat 5 to connect to the dvr for the preset use as that is the data communications cable. disconnecting this cable make the camera only static unless you use a converter with sending the video and data/control signal down the rg59 the using a box to split it at camera end, one box required for each end of coax. hth

    DIY home surveilance systam

i agree with sector on the budget thing, 400$ wont get you much, i mean i have 4 speed domes ir type on the house, retail £200each, a full d m sprite 2 with full net access which cost me a grand or so. with keyboard, plus the other 7 cams which are genie 5302 type cameras which retail at around £100 each so my system has cost me approx £2500 approx and that's just a domestic system in general outdoor/indoor conditions, if your environment requires dust proof housings and ir/or good vision, then you really need to up the amount your willing to spend.

  5. hi peeps would someone assist me in which windows to use so a fat 32 format can be completed on a hdd of 500gb IDE type. as ive been reading the dedicated micros topics and the comments come back saying xp can only fat 32 format hdds to 32gb im replacing a 320gb to 500 gb due to disk error showing on ds2 and need to format the larger size, can someone explain either thru windows xp a work around the file size issue, or which windows edition ie windows 98 or windows vista etc id need to install on the pc to allow the larger files format at fat 32 i have the files needed for the ds2 upgrade/hdd installation and just need to format this drive with the correct software ready for dm ds2 use, many thanks, ps im a cctv engineer by trade.
  6. many thanks terborsz for your assitance, i take it it runs as a software package on xp ok, its just the xp fat 32 file sysem that can only format small segments/hdd sizes then

How do you use a dedicated micros dvr

when you power the domes up what does the onscreen messages say about telemetry on the cameras?? what is the converter doing on it is it to convert from 485 to 232 as from knoeing the older ds2s you need a d plug which you solder a cable to the pins 1 and 9 1 being positive and 9 being negative on the 485 line this then connects to the domes, as far as im aware you wont need anything to convert from to another. i never have used anything as a converter and telemtry works at one of the customers premises ok.

How do you use a dedicated micros dvr

reeboot the dvr after changing the setting in the menu as the serial port only becomes active with the setting once rebooted, and one other thing make sure yoe dome itself is set to pelco p on bothe the serial port setting on menu page SYSTEM OPTIONS and also the actual camera pages on the telemetry setup, THEN REBOOT the dvr by shutting down completely removing the power and restore power. have you also tried changing it to vcl on the serial telemtry and putting the vcls to vcl telemtry on the camera switches then rebooting the dvr.

How do you use a dedicated micros dvr

i think from memory you have to wire the vcl orbitors to the r485 line on the back of the machine, to the rs485 connections in each dome then set each dome to pelco p as that runs through the older ds2's as a standard baud rate of 9600 but on the newer dm's it will run at any baud rate you want what version number does your unit say in the setup installer menu? for example my ds2a cd writer built in dm sprite 2 says version 3.1 net(dvtx) on the first menu page to shut down the unit. if this is a different version number then you may have an older machine. but on mine being the newer style machine i can tell the unit through the text setup section to setup the serial port either 123 or 4 on the back, mine has a green terminal block on the back if yours has this type of connector as well then its the newer style unit, but if it has a d type plug on swrial 1 and 2 then its the older version.
  13. have you checked that any schedules havent been made up in the setup menu?

    Computer Crash

mt advice would be get yourself a standalone dvr which is made for the job of cctv recording. not a pc computer which obvously isnt upto the job.

    catch Bugular! Help!

firstly you only need to post on here once as people will see this thread show when they log on to the site in new posts. secondly 200$ wont buy you a good quality camera plus dvr. mounting inside you wont be able to use ir built into the camera so ewithr no ir and good street lighting will be required or a black white colour camera with low light might work. tbh placing cameras behind windows probably wont give very good results as there will be refelctions from internal lighting. ps ive spent near to 3000 pounds on my system (dedicated micros sprite 2 with built in cd writer plus joystick with ptzs and external cameras on full alarms and even that isnt perfect!!

    Shorted ptz wires

another thing to check with the camera moving on its own is the termination switch make sure the rs485 is terminated in the pcb as iif not the 485 signal can be a bit speradic.
