  1. Thanks to everyone for the replies!

I'd recommend using Cat5e for the wiring, along with baluns to connect to the camera and DVR, rather than coax cable with separate power. It will be cheaper in cable costs, and just less hassle on the whole.

So just the Cat5e wiring can supply BOTH power and video? What is a "baluns"?

What are some sites that sell the CCTV products at good prices?

heres my advice on the sytstem.

    dvr

go for dedicated micros as they have been around a long time, if you want me to get hold of a good unit 16 channel with cdrw that is refurbed with new hdd fans etc then pm me i can get them at a lot lower than a brand new unit but with new insdides, dm equipment is things the police and councils would use.

    cameras

id go for genie 5351 cameras domes that are vandal proof. these are 12 v dc units and work to excellent quality, they start around £150 from memory just look for that model number on the internet.http://www.cctvshopper.co.uk/viewproduct.asp?pid=6384

    cabling,

id stick with the rg59 option, although it doesnt easily allow ip use i think personal experience shows the coax version is a better system, for most cctv, me personally i prefer working with coax as there is no baluns needed for each camera and looks i think a tidier install.

power if you have cameras local to each other try and group them so that you could run some locally to the cameras from the power supply on floor 1, and locally to psu on floor 2 and then any remander on floor 3, dont run all you power to a central location unless this location is very short distance wise. and run it in either 2 core flat flex or alarm cable and tripple the pairs to each camera, this reduces the chances of power losses on the camera end. if you have a psu near to the outdoor cameras, put a dedicated circuit in for the cctv power supplied as this will stop any accidental outage to the cctv if maintenance is done to the sockets/lights/fire/alarm syems, dont be tempted to run it all from a plug top as this will undoubtedly get unplugged and forgotten about unless hidden in the roof void.

    the outdoor cameras,

this type of camera dome has something called mechananical ir cut filter, this means that the ir filter is removed when the camera changes to b/w night time mode, it means if you put ir lamps by the side to illuminate the area under cctv view the area would look lit through the infrared light seen by the camera but not human eyes. its a way of allowing the camera to become sensitive to ir light. http://www.cctvshopper.co.uk/viewproduct.asp?pid=6436

    ir lighting

IR Lighting is not visble to the human/naked eye, it is what some people call covert light, which means that cmaera ir capable can see the light emitted but the naked eye cannot sense the emitted light due to the fact ir is outside of our normal light spectrum vision.

    PTZs cameras / Speed domes

outside of properties can be viewed with speed domes or ptz domes/cameras, which allows the cctv user to view any area with in the range of the camera but also means less cameras outside may not be needed, especially if pir sensors where used with the ptz to turn it to the pir protected area, the other advantage of ptzs over statics is they can be focussed in on the area of interest in more details to some extent than what a static can be and gives greater detail to the picture quality.

the companies ive posted the info on under no circumstances is a recommendation to use they are purley for info purposes i have never used this company in the past and work for myself so not anything to do with that company, they were one of the first on the google list.

    lastly

  2. The new NVR is a different brand and does not support the original encoder.

    Thanks again.

so after reading this next bit of the thread i gather the new encoder is needed to be connected to the original ptz and setup as that ptz's protocol, ie vcl/pelco/bbv etc. can you confirm 2 things are the ptz's actaul box camera type ptz's with large motors, or dome type ptz's

  3. hi again

my friend who has the camera set up asked me today if i could set his system up to his network where the cameras are

and view the cameras from home (not controll them just view)

i have watched a couple of youtube vids on how to do this

but would like to know ho his setup will have to be

if he only has the Rs485 into the keyboard controller and not in the dvr

would he still be able to view his cameras from home and not control them

and is it just a matter of inserting the ethernet cable into the dvr

then following the youtube video setups

    cheers

like tom says, need the info on the dvr and what router type he has got. before we can say how to network as different dvrs have setting done slightly differently. if you want to pm the details if you feel putting on the forum might give to much security info then feel free to pm the details.

  4. Hello,

Could I interface the same PTZ camera to a second DVR controller and control PTZ from both using RS-485 ?

    Thanks,

    df

can you give a bit more detail in what you want to do, i guess you will be using a seperate dvr maybe hidden away as backup or remote dial in, and the main dvr as the connection when on site. what would be the point of not just hiding the main dvr, is this commercial or domestic.

  5. as i said in a previous post we have signs all round the property but that doesnt stop scum like this turning up trying to get thru the front door. turns out i got home just in time, to find the idiot trying to nick cable and looking round the bins area the main thing that cheesed me off is the fact he tried to get thru the front door. soon sorted that out the cops have been alerted and they are picking up the cd tomorrow/sunday during the afternoon.

thank god the front door was locked as my mum and dad were home if he had gotten in he could have gone thru the whole house. doesnt bear thinking about tbh.

  6. We put Mobotix Q24 cameras in busses and semi's for 360 degree coverage. The bus companies want something that can see every seat and the semi owners want to make sure their drivers aren't drinking or playing with themselves in the cab (a huge un-told issue). Cabbies also use other cameras, so yes its possible, you can use a 12volt dc camera and simple NAS.

try here www.rfconcepts.co.uk they do cctv and all different types of cameras hope that helps

  7. Does anyone have the lists of the protocol (DIP switch) settings for the Honeywell (Ultrak) KD6, HD6, and Samsung SCC-641 PTZ cameras. I swear, it is like these companies hide that information like it was a treasure map. I'd like to use them through a Coaxitron, or if that won't work, through a different matrix system, but finding a good list of the protocol settings is holding me back.

    Thanks.

the samsung is Compatable With Protocols From Kalatel, American Dynamics and Sensormatic

the honey well KD6 and HD6 user manual is here if its any help ?

  8. Hey everyone.

So, I've lived in my home for 8 months, and my cameras have payed off twice already.

One time I was in my office, and saw someone casing my house.

I met them in the back yard....

Well, I ordered these. Their Small, Don't draw too much attention and I think

a clean way to display not to mess with this house....

    178821_1.jpg

So, do you think it's a bad idea to display in this form that Security isn't a joke.

Do you have any form of Security signs in your yard/property?

    Thanks

i have put small sticker type signs on the external windows and doors and garage door and back of the sheds, as we have camera all round the house, front ptz 1, front ptz 2, drive 1, drive 2, drive 3/bins, front door, side gate, rear ptz, garage doors internal, garden, pond, sheds where ever you enter our property wether through the gates, drive or garden theres signs dotted just about everywhere to warn you as your getting near the house.

  9. hi cctvmann

there are 2 ptz cameras not sure what make

1 works perfect so the RS485 + and - must be ok

no i didnt reboot the cameras after programing the keyboard

and yes i changed the keyboard to 002 camera 2 then back to camera 1 which works ok

im back there sat so i wil reboot before i try anything els

do i just switch the 12v power to the cameras off and then on again? and does the + and - have power going through it?

also 1 last question if you dont mind

im very interested in getting to know how to do new stuf

but im a very slow leaner at some things

can you tell me if im right on how it all conects together

as i might get a camera setup for my self

first if i get just a dvr and 2 ptz cameras

the 2 cameras have 12v power to them then coax cable and 2 wires to them in a daisy chain for the rS485 to the dvr

and on the back of the dvr the coax cables, 2 RS485 wires and power for the dvr

then in goes the monitor or tv

and the cameras have dip switches which can be changed to change the address and protocol and board rate

which then must be matched in the dvr settings for ptz camera 1 and 2

and then if using a keyboard the RS485 can just go into that and then input the camera settings into that

    cheers

the rs485 must be the correct way between cam 1 and cam 2 if its the wrong way wired it will cause loss of movement, also on the camera itself at camera 2 the cam address will need setting at 2 and that wll also need rebooting. the 485 does have power goind thru it a few millamps if memory serves correctly wrong polarity + snd - cnnections will just make it not work no damage will be caused. to reboot the camera just turn the power off to that camera wait 30 seconds then switch back on. where abouts is it you are setting the domes up?

  10. Thankyou very much for you reply

would you know what would be the cause of one of the 2 ptz cameras to not move with the joypad keyboard and have the settings (protocol board rate address)on that camera screen (it works just wont move and has info on the screen)

camera 1 was set and stored in keyboard controller as 001 address board rate 4800

    and protocol pelco D

and camera 2 was 002 address 4800 and pelco D

but camera 002 wont move when selected in the joypad

    cheers

did you change the cctv camera to cam 2 on the pcb in the camera address, as if that is setup as any other cam address it wont work. also check to make sure your plus and minus (+ and -) on the rs485 data connection is the correct way round for camera 2 because if not this will cause camera 2 not to move. what camera is it that your using? oh and one last thing did you rebbot the camera for the address settings to take effect.

  11. my friend is running a G3 Lite Keyboard controller for 2 PTZ Cameras

the dvr has no RS485 connected

just the RS485 onto G3 Lite Keyboard for PTZ Cameras

am i right in thinking that i only need to set the protocol board rate and camera address on the G3 Lite Keyboard for PTZ Cameras

    and not in the dvr

    thanks

thats correct if there is no control through the dvr at all then only the keyboard will need setting up, if you require to control the cctv thru the dvr for example over the internet then you would need to setup the dvr t rs485 plus have a cable from the dvr to the keyboard/ptz's
