  2. I need to find a switcher that I can control with relay outputs from my dvr's. I only have space for one alarm monitor and I need the alarms from two of our Kalatel DVMRE16ct's to be able to be viewed. Any help finding a switcher would be appreciated.

i dont suppose this is any good to you is it?

  3. I think a lot of people here would say it's more than just security, it's an interest to the point of being a fun hobby with benefits. If you want out, yank it all down. Sell it and get some money back. Put something small in place if it suits you. One thing's for sure, if you have nothing installed you have zero chance. And call me superstitious, but the minute you take something down, something happens and you wish you had it in place.

id agree with shockwave on the bold line. ive got cctv and quite a comprehensive system including speed domes, with intelligent ir, plus static domes, alarms that event log, and also spin the domes round, plus a registration number plate camera as well. this is all set to alarms inside and out, im of the opinion they are deterrant and if nothing happens then the cameras have done their job, worth my money that i put into the system,

  4. I've tried resetting to default settings but once I press record it goes into emergency "Red light" record. If it would just record for more than a couple of days it would be fine.I gather this is because in 2emergency mode" it records at full(super fine)quality?

The thing is I'm not really sure how the "Schedule record" should be set up if I still wish to record 24/7?

When set to schedule you do not need to push record button bud

That is what the issue possibly is on your unit

It will record by its self as per scedule wether its motion or perminant

Can you tell me how to set up schedule record so that it records 24/7 continuously please?

hiwatt check your pm you have mail explaining all the relevant settings for this dvr hope that helps

  6. Motion detection, particularly on cheap cameras will produce TONS of false alarms from changes in lighting conditions....

I have talked with a lot of people about motion detection and they have all told me that even $2000 cameras still have problem with false positives when it comes to motion detection. So any form of reliance of motion detection is off the table as far as I am concerned. A camera that can be triggered via a door sensor will be 100%, so why would I even consider anything that would be less then that.

Heres the deal, wifi in general is not reliable, although it can be ok....but it will never be 100%...considering that you need to power the camera somehow, you may as well use power over Ethernet and run a single line.

I agree that wifi can be untrustworthy in some case, but In my case it has never failed me. If it becomes a problem the solution would be to use the existing power source as the Ethernet through the use of a powerline product, instead of running a whole new Ethernet line.

You may want to get two cameras so you can see what is going on at all times.

I currently have two wide angle camera installed in a crisscross pattern and they do not give me complete coverage of the area I need to see.

Some cameras have built in pir motion detectors that will limit false alarms hikvision axis, av-tech make these type of cube cameras...

Just for conversation sake. What exactly is PIR?

ive just seen your message i have these cameras and they are absolutely superb even with no external lighting they see for 50+ metres. register and order one and youll be chuffed to bits

  7. Low light or NO light? The problem with IR cameras is they will attract bugs- specifically spiders and the webs can make things a challenge. If there's enough light in there all the time, a camera without IR will make a huge difference in terms of upkeep with spiders. However, dirt and dust will have to be cleaned off occasionally for best viewing. Where are you located?

This camera would be do the job perfectly and goes for around 1,500 from vendors-

Something like this will go for around 600, and minus IR would actually be a great way to go provided there is light in there at night. IR would probably be best, but it comes at a price with spiders but perhaps even that problem would slow down in colder months-

Thanks for the recommendations! Good point about low light vs no light. There is probably only scant moonlight when nobody is there at night, but I can check with the client to see if there would be any issue with leaving some lights on. The first cam is probably a bit expensive for this client, but the second looks pretty nice. I don't think the client would have a problem cleaning for spiders and such periodically so long as they are aware that it needs to be done. I think I would prefer to have something with IR, and we can deal with the trade-offs that come with it. Located in Western Kentucky, USA.

Where is a good place to get these Dahua cameras? Any other recommendations for a camera with IR that's under the $1000 mark?

  8. my opinion is its best to try different cameras of different styles and see what the limitations to each camera is, in different environments. for example we have these (vrcd5302) ok with external lighting but have no ir cut filter so ir isnt detected by this camera, the middle pictured camera has built in ir for night vision so they perform alot better due to emitting the ir from the camera itself. (mini ir 10x speed dome) im looking at replacing all out genie 5302's with a small varifocal static dome like these type (s3) the night vision on the next post due to only allowing three pictures is from the genies and the mini ir speed domes.
