  1. yup just found it, sucks that you have to manually select when to start and stop dst, it is somewhat different every year.
  2. Thanks, most likely is auto iris and ir filter on the good note, i managed to get camera side motion detection on these working with my synology surveillance station. working on the mini bullets and domes, but they appear to not work at all as they should, must be some quirks in the way lorex did things. The swann was easy as copying the higher end models code, and changing the model number
  3. Yes they can be used by themselves. http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1729 I saw the same review by buellwinkle, but I was unsure whether or not these Lorex/Costco cameras have been dumbed down or changed in any way. I'm on the fence with this system. I'm starting to think buying the Hikvision version and using a PC/NAS as an NVR might be the way to go for me, especially since I'm not assured of which version of dome camera is coming in the box. costco has their return policy which is 2nd to none around here. it is worth the time to see if you get the newer costco version, it is very weird how i'm the only person posting about receiving this newer version. Someone on costco posted a 5star review, that wasn't me, but it sure looks nice, i need to post my own soon, also going to be New York, NY, looks like "us" new yorkers are getting all the good stuff. they take hikvision firmware with no problem, in case swann or lorex dumbed things down. only thing i hate about the cameras, is that they do not account for Daylight Saving Time which throws my time out of whack twice a year, in which i have to change timezones to make it accurate.
  4. even on the newer version, i had to work on the foam a bit, i believe it was still blocking some leds a bit, i actually took the foam, flipped it upside down, and squeezed the wider foam to fit by the IR leds. tested it and i had no ir leakage problems, so i'm happy, it was as easy as flipping the foam around. trimming it is easy, but is very hard to get it to look perfect, if you cared about it.
  5. that is definitely the old version, sadly, its so weird how orders around the same time period could yield such different cameras. I had 2 orders 1 week apart, my 2nd order shipped first, and my 1st order actually shipped after the 2nd order, but they both came with the newer domes, the last order i received was this past monday the 5th.
  6. hi the current lorex cameras have no IR issues, the 4 domes i received in my 2 kits are updated domes.
  7. fyi the 4 domes in the 2 kits i received are the Newer version per your posts. I have 8 of these newer lorex bullets, and i actually prefer these to the swann ones. i believe the shield would have no problem staying attached, i am looking at the 8 i have, so i'm not pulling things out of my ass. The only thing i dislike is that it does seem a bit harder to tighten the adjustment locking mechanism, i am unsure if this will stay in place once tweaked. i also have 6 of the swann bullets here, and side by side, the plastic shield while cheaper appears to have been designed to help the bullet stay cooler, by keeping the sun from hitting the body of the bullet itself. The black part in front, i thought was plastic at first, but upon further examination, it is black painted metal. This was done mainly to help prevent stay IR, front getting in and out, which improves the night vision vs the swann.
  8. fyi the domes i received appear to be the newer model. on the 2 sets i bought, so i have 4 new domes.
  9. sounds like how every manufacturer works, they direct you to their distributors. I'm pretty sure you can get a generic bracket and get it to work, at most, it might require drilling some small homes into the bracket to get it mounted.
  10. I meant to say "if" its a three axis. I edited my post to reflect that. I couldnt find the appropriate hikvision. The issue I have is that acti has cameras that are literally only 30.00-50 more and might be a better buy, granted they are not varifocal so one would have to take that into account. varifocal is a big deal and price difference, if it weren't varifocal i bet these swam cameras would be 300 bucks for a pair.
  11. they appear to be the same inside, just slightly different enclosures, they take the same hikvision firmware to make them 3mp capable. Returning my hd820s mainly because the lorex are a much better deal, the more i play with them, the more i feel that the things that were done on the lorex model were done as improvements. Although a aluminum shade would have been nicer then plastic.
  12. sorry for the lack of cellphone pictures earlier. Enjoy!
  13. Swann varifocal manual indicates Alarm I/O as well, but there is no dongle for it, i believe you can possible wire it in to the camera directly, but i have not taken it apart yet
  14. also wanted to state the the body itself the white metal its marginally bigger in diameter on the lorex then the swann. by marginal i mean 1mm, brought out my calipers to check, they looked slightly bigger by eye. The sun shade being separated from the body i believe is to help prevent direct sunlight front getting transmitted into the metal body. The sun shade as mentioned is plastic, and snaps off VERY easily. the mechanism that holds the camera position has some slight changes, previously on the swann, the ball part that gets locked was a textured pattern, with the lorex the ball has a grid pattern on it. Swann seems to lock tighter. The cameras look identical inside, i have not opened it, but the IR boards look the same. The black front end would help prevent stray IR from going around, good design imo. Round RJ45 connector definitely MUCH easier to pull through a hole. Lorex Sticker is very visible and TACKY, the swann model sticker was much more subtle. Swann Paint finish is nicer, lorex went with a smooth paint finish rather then the lightly speckled finish swann used. End of short review! hope this helps . Also the hikvision raptor version is slightly lower in number then the stock lorex firmware, but the hikvision firmware still loads properly and enables 3MP modes. v5.0.0 130607 is stock lorex version.
  15. i have flashed the Newer Lorex cameras with the hikvision raptor firmware, no problems, you get the 3mp settings available with the hikvision firmware. Will try the dome later tonight when i get the chance
  16. The Black is actually metal of sorts, i thought it was plastic at first, only the sunshade is plastic, i believe the black actually improves it so you don't have stray IR shooting around. Only time will tell if these are truly better then the all white versions with non removable sunshade
  17. Does it have a microSD card slot? i can confirm a microSD slot, its there when i unscrewed the front piece to access focus / zoom What do you mean. As in they are the old style with the old foam ring yes old style
  18. Got my 6 camera lorex bundle in. BAD NEWS!! the cameras are exactly as pictured!! They do not come with the 2nd half of the water proof connectors to make the rj45 watertight!! Sunshade is plastic, the black piece up front is possibly plastic as well! (never mind this is still metal) These have the round waterproof rj45 connectors. but not the 2nd half to make them waterproof The domes are the bad ones that buellwinkle posted about! also with round rj45 connectors need to test to see if these cameras are even hikvision. On the side note, i got my swann varifocal bullet in as well, just a round rj45 connector and power, no alarm, these have non of the nice things you get in more expensive cameras like alarm etc.
  19. hmm if the 90 day return does not apply to this, then you pretty much have a lifetime return, just that after too many of those, costco will blacklist and cancel your membership. I know certain costco items have a 90 day return, but everything else, you can return it anytime.
  20. holy sh*t, 15k? the guys better have been running cat 6 through 50 ft of solid concrete. all that money paid, they could have given you a UPS that probably costs a hundred bucks to keep the system powered during short outages. i'm not in the business, i'm a handy dandy man with stuff, and if i paid 15k, i better be getting atleast half of that in cost of equipment.
  21. as great as the aliexpress price is, i'm not sure i would give up easy returns and 90 days to find if anything is wrong, routinely costco will extend the return period as a courtesy as long as it is within a warranty period.

  23. Thanks, it appears my swann cameras all have that black ring already, hoping my lorex ones have the ring too. I ordered 2 lorex systems, one on 7/23 and one today 7/29, both are still processing, i am praying this delay is to update the domes with the new version. My swann varifocal bullets ordered today 7/29 have shipped already. Swann seems very fast with shipping!
  24. Good luck with those domes, I had serious IR LED light bleed issues until Hikvision changed their manufacturing on these. The new ones work great but may have caused manufacturing delays. Here's the differences between new vs. old. See how the old one covered half the LEDs and the large shape made it hard to conform to the dome's curves. Hikvision was very responsive in getting this resolved once I reported this. One reason my distributor can't get the new ones for about another week or two. They also made changes to the bullet. Also, the old design was a floating ring and the new one is fixed in place. wow thanks for letting us know! any pics to compare the new and old bullets?
  25. After some more messing around, apparently you can I fiddled some more and I ended up creating an "encoding channel" group and added the cams attached to the NVR to that group. I only have 2 cams connected to the NVR to test out, and both appeared in iVMS. I was planning on mounting the NVR in my garage rack where I have my network switches/punchdown/etc. & just remotely stream/control the NVR, and it looks like I'll be able to do that good news galore! hah, can't wait to get my 2 lorex sets, and return my 6 swann cameras i bought 2 weeks ago. hope the dome works well, they have that black foam ring which generally works to limit the haloing.
