3G Camera Shows During the Day and Blank at Night

Check to see if there is a schedule for that channel to record, if it stops at the same time every night, then I would expect that to be the problem, or your house has spirits, they don't like to be recorded. The IR's don't care if the camera is recording or not, if the sensor detects low light they will come on, even when they are not connected to a device.

    Door Peephole camera install

What type of door are you installing in? If you have the ability to add 'decorative' trim, a coat rack, or something on the inside then route out a passage way to the doors edge. Where that ends I would drill into the door, and bore a hole going towards the frame. The problem is jumping from the door to the frame or the door frame trim. I always have concerns over wires exposed to movement, or getting pinched. Depending on where you go after that, you would want to minimize the risk to the wires.

    Need to secure garage/perimeter

What is your definition of cheap? There are complete 8 channel systems direct from china for <$250, and they work, but you are getting what you pay for. Higher quality and dependability cost more, and can be thousands more. Most vendors have decent online descriptions of what everything is capable of. Most importantly have a good plan for exactly what you want to do, and it will help you shop.
  5. Good point! (2) A person is guilty of stalking who intentionally or knowingly engages in a course of conduct directed at a specific person and knows or should know that the course of conduct would cause a reasonable person: (a) to fear for the person's own safety or the safety of a third person; or (b) to suffer other emotional distress. The above is from Utah statutes... "To suffer other emotional distress". I guess if I was selling drugs out of my house then both (a) and (b) might apply. I'm no lawyer, nor a cop, but I think 2 things are at play. (1)Risk versus reward and (2) Intent. What real benefit is he gonna gain by installing camera's versus the chance of legal action? What is the intent of setting up his camera's? I believed he answered the intent when he posted this thread's title. Would he be better off if he were monitoring his own property and happened to oversee the neighbor's activity from 24 hr monitoring? I'm thinking so...
  6. I somewhat agree, except saying that a typical back yard would not carry the reasonable expectation. Any place that is in public view generally doesn't qualify, like a backyard which can often be seen from varying positions from a street or sidewalk, aside from the neighbors view.
  7. Yes, no one has answered this definitively. Im not a lawyer, Im a fireman, so here is what I found in my 3 minute search: Utah Code Ann. § 76-9-702.7. Voyeurism offenses – Penalties. (2004) (1) A person is guilty of voyeurism who intentionally uses a camcorder, motion picture camera, photographic camera of any type, or other equipment that is concealed or disguised to secretly or surreptitiously videotape, film, photograph, record, or view by electronic means an individual: (a) for the purpose of viewing any portion of the individual's body regarding which the individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy, whether or not that portion of the body is covered with clothing; (b) without the knowledge or consent of the individual; and © under circumstances in which the individual has a reasonable expectation of privacy. Found here : http://www.ncvc.org/src/main.aspx?dbID=DB_Utah125 If that helps.
  8. A while back, the laws considered most anything in the 'public view' was fair game. However, as times changed and video camera's increased in quality and volume, states started introducing voyeurism laws. These laws were designed to prevent others from using camera's to peer through cracks in curtains and what not. This also suggests what the intent of pointing your camera's. The intent of placing a camera from a mailbox to video a car's plate when leaving your drive versus placing it there to view your neighbors pool party are entirely different. Your best bet is to ask a cop, they normally are up to speed on laws for your state, especially if you are making thier job easier. Next I would consider the risk of not having the camera's versus getting in trouble with the law. Having camera's are very valuable should anything bad happen. I seriously doubt the penalty for any law on the books would be all that severe. However, I would have plans for what your neighbors may do if they learn they are under surveillance.
