  1. Hi, Does anyone know where to get/buy mini 3 and 4 pin connectors for pcb board cameras...? they are I believe about 2.54mm...the female sits on the board and the male connector fro bnc and power slots into the board connector...I think they are sometimes called heade connectors but am not really sure as Ive seen molex mini connectors that are similar...if anyone knows where these are sold I`d appreciate the info Thanks
  2. Hi, I want to change a lens on one of the static cameras I use...the paricular camera that I need to change the lens on has a lens with a 4 pin wire/lead that plugs in to the relevant slot on the camera...but,the other lens I wish to place on the camera has just 3 wires...can anybody help with this please ? Im unsure if I need to rewire the new 3 wires into the 4 pin plug somehow or whether to connect this new lens into the rear connections...there seem to only be a + and - connections at the rear of the camera though ?!?! Hope somebody may be able to offer some advice as to how to sort this out...I want to change the lens as the new lens has a longer range which is needed at present. Thanks,

Change of Lens on static camera ?

Thanks for the further info. The actual camera is a samsung and has two options for AI lens on the rear of the camera for "video" or "dc"...I assumed, maybe wrongly, that this meant video drive...I will use another auto iris lens and be done with it but it is of interest to me to see how these things work.

Change of Lens on static camera ?

Thanks for the reply...I had it in mind it wasn`t going to be easy or anything simple ...on the plus side they`re not expensive so I will be thankful for that !!!
  5. I have just had a very strange experience via a phone call. on answering the phone I was informed that it was from microsoft...as you would imagine I was rather bewildered and wanted to know how and why the caller had my phone number (I`m in the UK). He proceeded to explain that there was a malicious program on one of the computers in my house that was infected...I was guided to look at the event log in my computer and asked if there were any "errors" and how many...there were lots ! ...I was asked if I knew where the cause may have come from and next to the "error" in the event log was DDNS...the only DDNS I have on my computer was installed from nvrdns.com and I downloaded the client from there. I got the information from this forum site and am passing on what has just occurred to me...the caller was genuine and could only have known things about me and my computer from the source it was obtained from originally. If this should be passed on please do so as I don`t know how to do it. Thanks.....and still confused.
  6. I removed it straight away...whoever it was knew enough about who I was and the computer I was using to tell me what pages I had been looking at and where the computer had been purchased even to the number...I`m still very confused..the guy said he was from a representative site or microsoft rep or something and gave his name, number and other information etc and directed me to things inside my computer that only somebody with an in depth knowledge would know even existed and he knew that there was a problem with something on my computer...when he proved to me certain info I started to take him seriously...I don`t know much about computers except how to use them for the work I do etc as I guess most people do...however...the point I am making is that I was advised to use nvrdns.com by somebody on this site whne I was seeking info on remote viewing set-up...others probably have obtained the same information.

    IR: Why Visible?

kinda defeats the whole point of 940nm doesn`t it ...I just love the 940nm I use
  8. They are the heavy grade type...they are premade but they do look sturdy...I just didn`t know if maybe freezing temperatures (nothing siberian here ) caused a loss of transmission or something and I`d be caught out...mind you,I doubt he`ll be doing any naked spying in the cold anyhow...hadn`t thought of that ...I guess you`re right when you say to leave it and see how it works out....thanks all
  9. I have several cables that I have placed just under the surface of the ground to several cameras...some are laid just to easily change the siting of cameras...while it`s not an issue at the moment,in the winter the ground will become frozen and I want to ask if this will affect anything concerning video feed or power to the cameras ? i do intend to place them in some type of piping but I don`t really want to start digging trenches ! Also, what about leads/wiring that runs outside the house down the walls etc ? I`d really like some advice before I find there are any issues and I can do something about it. Thanks
  10. Yes I placed the wires in the ground at about 12 inches on a temporary measure at first as it was very difficult to do it unobserved...the cameras are there for the night-time naked peeper/prowler/general all round moron next door...so I didn`t have much chance to do a permanent job although there have been no problems so far. There are no splices in the ground and there are several runs of a maximum of 10 metres outdoors. I am thinking of placing in piping at around the same depth (12 inches)...as it is I would need to pull up a few things to do this, decking and there`s a concreted pathway/area so if I can get away with just the piping it will make it a lot simpler. edited to add...the situation here is not easy...it`s not as if I`m installing a system with no obstacles or hindrances in that this needs to be unseen...we are going through a serious situation with the police involved etc although they have taken their time...they didn`t realise until they saw the footage what this guy does...(there are some thing`s I don`t want to say here). (A little summary justice was delivered so things have been quieter but this fool will not stop I`m convinced )

Robotic PIR security lights and brackets ?

I want to echo something I read somebody else say on here recently...I just had a look at these security lights on ebay and they are more expensive on there !... it definately pays (`scooz pun couldn`t resist ) to have a look around...around anywhere else from ebay !
  12. I have been told of theses security lights that follow a target once it`s entered the field of view and sends a wireless audio alarm when it`s been set off ...there`s also a version of the same but with a bracket on top for a cctv camera to go on top...kind of do-it-yourself PTZ I guess, has anyone used this kind of thing ? http://www.nightwatchersecurity.eu/p/h/Home/Products/1/ I`ve seen them on ebay, costco, amazon etc amongst other places. if anybody has used this or similar I`d appreciate the information on how it worked... thanks...

Robotic PIR security lights and brackets ?

The one with the bracket for the camera sells on their site for £39.99 !!...silent too... you have to angle yourself but pretty good idea... edit for correction.
  14. Hi... I`ve been testing out a camera but there`s some sort of problem...the screen displays horizontal lines or just video loss and a couple of times when connecting to the power plug-in the system has crashed and rebooted itself...I`ve tried also with a camera that I know works perfectly well and this too won`t display, the screen just displays video loss...when I reconnect the camera that was originally in it`s bnc socket it`s fine. is anyone able to offer some adivce on this ?

Camera difference in D/N to TDN

I`m not a cctv technician but have consistently used both 850nm and 940nm for about 6 months...I don`t know the camera you speak of but the difference you will notice in using infrared will be that blue may appear as purple, green a bit washed out looking etc...there will be differences in colour but as far as I have noticed while using IR cameras there is no difference in quality aside from the colour being affected...as I say,I`m not a cctv technician or professional but I`ve used IR cameras constantly and this is the only thing that has been apparent for me...there`s been no difference in definition or detail of view... (maybe you`re asking for something other than the explanation given and if so I`m sorry for being mistaken)

    Editing of CCTV files...???

Thanks for the replies guys...I found a disc that I`d forgotten about in the box...I`ll see what that provides. I`ve been using the live movie maker and am a bit more familiar with it...and you were right about just giving the files and marking time...there i was trying to make it easy and didnt need to bother !
  17. Hi, I need to edit some cctv avi files that have images that I want to give to the police etc...can anyone tell me the easiest way to do this...I do have windows media but I find it`s not ideal...or perhaps I need to become more familiar with it...however,there may be easier programmes to do this with and I`d appreciate any advice. Thanks

    Editing of CCTV files...???

Hi...they are avi files but they are in 30min files...there are so many of them that I was trying to edit for just the relevant bits...nobody wants to trawl through hours of footage for a few seconds on each 30 min file surely... they were downloaded to a 32gb usb flash drive which is nearly full...I don`t want to give them that so I was going to give them a disc.

    Stars in my eyes !!!

Hi...I`ve noticed at night there are several small star like objects in the image...they are not noticed during daylight hours. Are these dead pixels ? I wondered what they were as they look like small pinpricks pof light...I wondered what was reflecting from the infrared light and then read about pixels...is this what they are ? Thanks

    Upgrading a 940nm camera...how feasible ?

Hi...I wanted to come back and update this... After much frustration I decided I would use this p.o.s camera for some educational purposes and took it apart to see just exactly what was inside...that began an interest and as far as these small cameras go,they seem to be relatively simple, consisting of a pcb sensor board and a lens and not much else...of course, yes, there are different standards of sensor board but basically what I`ve managed to do is find a pcb board that fit my needs (940nm),bought some lenses that were open to 940nm,attached the leads...and I now have a pcb camera that actually sees in 940nm and gives a decent image and housed in the casing...it took a while to understand and of course this is all small scale stuff, consisting of my rear 50ft garden...but I`ve now a real interest in this stuff to the extent that I`m trying find some courses and see where that takes me... Does anybody know where good comprehensive cctv courses can be found in the London area ? Thanks.
  21. Hi...Is the following idea feasible and valid or a complete dream ? I`ve had some problems with a 940nm bullet camera and have posted other threads on these issues...I have an option to send the **** thing back for a refund...but then I`m facing a situation similar to the one I had before getting the first camera...what to buy/how can I be certain it will meet my needs etc ? Another option is to try to upgrade the camera myself to a degree whereby it actually does what it needs to...I`m not sure how this could be achieved...perhaps,for example, getting some 10mm leds instead of the 5mm it has would boost the distance of view (I would hope),but then I`d need to alter the resistors etc etc... Is this a valid idea ?

Using 940nm "bulb" as illuminator ?

I have to say that I only understand some of what you`re saying but what I do undertand I`ll bear in mind...I`ve only been using cctv for about 4 months max, from initially getting the usual 850nm stuff, which is good,to getting useless 940nm cameras...I`ve also messed around with some pcb cameras and lenses and been opening up the cameras etc and taught myself a little but, obviously, you don`t learn a huge amount in such a short time. As far as the illuminator thing goes,I`ve only housed each bulb separately (48 led ring bulbs) so haven`t encountered the difficulties you`ve pointed out...but I do want to learn about the high powered leds and for that I will need to learn the type of thing you speak of...little by little and I hope to get there !! Thanks
  23. I`ve been using a 940nm camera which has good night vision up to around 10 metres but then seems to drop off rapidly...I`ve looked at some illuminators but to me they seem way over-priced...I have ordered a 36 led 940nm "bulb" (the inner ring of leds around a lens) and intend to use that as an illuminator, placed at a distance of 10 metres from my camera...and which to me has the added benefit of not looking like a device that needs to be avoided along with being a fraction of the price. Has anyone used an illuminator and how efficient are they ? Or can anybody foresee any problems I may encounter ? I would appreciate the advice... Thanks, stephanovich

Using 940nm "bulb" as illuminator ?

The connections couldn`t have been simpler...they came with pigtails...in fact the hardest thing was finding something to house them in...I tried several methods and used the right size hole saws to cut holes in various items and things...I experimented with several types...from electrical enclosures/hollowing out round type electrical junction boxes are just two of different things I tried out...my rear garden is not very big, maybe 50ft max,but they gave a good enough light to satisfy the police with recognition...this all came about as I had a worse than useless 940nm camera with internal leds.
