    Is Q-See Equipment any good?

I installed 8 cameras of a 16 camera Q-see system from Costco in September 2012. I am amazed at how well the system works for the price. I have a high end system at home and it works almost as well as the high end system. You need common since when comparing. In some conditions, nothing works. Works great on the laptop and android as well. I called Q-see a few times when setting up and they could not have been more pleasant and helpful. I did not use the wiring supplied with the system. I used Cat5 with balun's and it was much easier. I don't think you can go wrong with Q-see for a basic system. Good Luck Mark

    LPR Camera System and Set-up

I am in the process of trying to set up an LPR camera system in the alley behind the house If I go with a 2.1 mp camera can I get by with one camera in each direction at night or must I use 2 cameras, one for the plate (a LPR camera) and one to view the surrounding area being monitored (a Mp or analog) in each direction. The cameras are being set-up to monitor vandal's and theft. When we have a problem, (which has not been often) my current analog system will not give us a license plate that is readable and recognition is questionable. I want to end up with a clear picture of what happened, who did it and the license plate of the car that is readable that will be usable for the authorities. The cameras are ceiling mounted in front of the garage door, 10' high and about 30' to 35' total distance to where the license plate would be on the car. I hope to have the license plate front and rear if needed. The speed could be from 5mph to 20mph. Any recommendations? I am using a DaHua DH-DVR1604HF-U Hybrid DVR. I have 4 cat5 lines to the alley area. I would like to spend as little as possible but want the information there if it's needed. Is there a balance somewhere between cost and performance? Do you have any camera recommendations? It has been hard to find accurate information for this type of coverage. Thanks for your time and help. Mark
