  1. Just had one more question. Did you use a startech crossover /NULL modem cable RS232 USB cable like this one https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008634VJY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ?? I got a RS232 straight cable that had a male end and then realized that my QC804 also has a male on its end. I then purchased a DB9female to female adapter to connect the cable to the DVR. I could install the drivers and the computer could detect the cable but on Putty, wasn't able to get to the uboot boot screen in spite of pressing and holding the '*' key after turning on the DVR.
  2. Hey @Gixer. I have the exact same problem that you had. Updated the exact same firmware and faced the boot loop issue and unresponsiveness from the NVR. QSEE customer support was not very helpful I just got the RS232 to USB cable and going to try your method. Can you tell if there is any documentation on the RS232 commands? appreciate your help
  3. so if this is a 8ch NVR, and i have 4 cameras powered through the NVR PoE ports and lets say I have 2 other IP cameras powered through a PoE Swtich, then How does the NVR know that there are 2 other cameras connected to it?

    Q-See 4 Channel HD NVR w/ 2 x 720P Cameras

I got this from costco, unfortunately one of the PoE port turned out to be bad. tried testing that port with multiple camera's as well as multiple cables but no luck. Costco service awesome.. they connected me with knowledgable Q-See support and we tried to troubleshoot the issue. Unfortunately we have to return the product for repairs. was wondering if others have the same issue
  5. Hi, I just installed a Q-SEE IP camera in one of the bedroom the cable from the camera location to the NVR is around ~100ft. after i plugged in the CAT 5e. cable, i had stapled it using cable stapler to the drywall. Now, when i turn on the NVR and let the camera run for a 10-15 mins, the camera body become very hot and I can't see any image. Is this normal for long run of cables? Should I check the Cat5 cable? when i take the cable out and let it cool down and plug it back in using like a 20ft cable, I get normal picture back again. On the same cable, I could use a laptop to connect to the internet (when I connected the other end of the cable directly into a rj45 port on my home router).
  6. Hi, Just got my new Q-See 4 camera NVR security kit and I would like to install some of them on the outside of my home. I have a rough Idea of the locations on where the camera's will be placed. I would like to know what would be the best way to get the ethernet cables from outside to the inside to my home. My home is brand new and is a typical wood frame construction. I have checked with the builder and he said that that the outside studs are 2x6. * what kind of drill bit should I use? I have drywall on the inside and OSB sheathing + some kind of cement/wood siding on the outside. * should I drill through the studs or through the OSB + insulation + drywall. * what kind of sealant I should be using. ? * would I have any issues with the outside wall insulation? * should I drill from the outside - in or inside-out? any other suggesstion will be highly appreciated.
  7. I moved into a new home and the home has Cat5e cabling done from my On-Q box in my master closet to all rooms in my home. next to my On-Q box, I have a Frontier / verizon FIOS wireless router that gets internet from a ONT device that frontier installed in my garage. I recently purchased a Q-See 4channel NVR + 4 security camera system from Costco and I am waiting for it to Arrive. what I was thinking to do is instead of using the supplied 100ft cables, I make use of the existing cabling done by my builder in home. So , lets say I install a camera next to my front door, I route the cat5 cable from my camera to the nearest bedroom that has a female jack and make use of the cat5e cable that runs from that bedroom to the on-q box . from on the on-q box, I connect the cable to the NVR. However, I would like to know if there exists multiplexer-demultiplexer devices?? that I could use to multiplex/demux the cat5e cable (non-PoE) signals coming out of the router port and the signals coming from the NVR (PoE) and a similar setup at the camera end where I could use a mux/demux. I have a schematic of what I intend to achieve. If someone could tell me if this is all possible, that would be great.
  8. why do you think it will not work? it is a Q-see NVR and is IP based. the cameras are PoE powered.
  9. I am going to try with the following setup and will let you guys know if this works. I have ordered http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003C2QS90/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 i will put a pair of this ( 1 on the wall plate in my bedroom and 1 next to the on-q box) . it seems like it will work because, 1 ethernet connection uses only 2 pairs . Also, I researched PoE and that too uses only 2 pairs in which the power is transmitted over the data lines (MODE A - PoE). If the Q-see box is power over the Ports in Mode A, this setup might just work.. will keep you posted. thanks
  10. Hello guys, I am new to this forum. I recently moved into a new home and is looking to install a 2 or 4 camera security system. I am a big fan of costco and saw these http://www.costco.com/Q-See-High-Definition-720p-2-Pack-IP-Cameras.product.100003461.html Since these cameras are PoE IP based I am wondering if can use these cameras with a 3rd party software? These description does say that Use as Stand Alone System or Integrate with Q-See NVR (Costco Item# 673454) However a customer in the review says that he was forced to use the cameras with the software that came along with it. I am wondering if this is truly the case. Other people have given good / decent reviews? Can these camera's be directly connected to a switch/router and access through my home PC with a 3rd party recording software (other than Q-see)?
