  1. I added a new Hikvision DS7716NISP16 to a Comcast Business IP Gateway today. There are currently 2 other NVR w/ separate IP addresses connected to this gateway. I can easily view these two NVR's remotely with no problems. When I tried to add the new NVR with DHCP enabled, no IP address info populated the fields on the NVR no matter how many times I pressed refresh. I then tried to connect my laptop to the same port on on the gateway and I could not connect to the internet. I tried to allow the gateway to give my laptop an IP address and still had no success. I then typed the default IP of the gateway which according to the manual is 10.1.10.1 and had no luck connecting to the gateway set-up page. I then looked at the network page on the existing NVR and tried to manually add the subnet, default gateway, preferred dns's and an IP close to the existing NVR's. I had no IP conflicts but still was not able able to get onto the network with the new NVR. I'm wondering if this gateway only allows for two static IP's and the existing NVR's are taking them. I know if I could get into the gateway set-up and get the portforwarding working properly but for some reason, I cannot figure out what is going on. If anyone has some suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, VC
  2. I have a client that wants me to install an NVR and he asked if there are any alternative ways that he can be able to remotely view his cameras without making fire wall and router penetrations. I told him that the only thing that I could think of was to add an additional DSL line to his house and to set up his NVR and a separate router from that DSL modem. He runs a business from his home and has a lot of critical information about many public companies financial analysis of new products and sales forecasting and is very concerned about that this private information could be compromised. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate hearing about them. Thanks in advance, VC
  3. Thanks. That sounds like something worth investigating. Is any port forwarding required?
  4. Thanks for the tip. I have a Hikvision NVR that I would like to try it on. It's a Hikvision DS-9616NI-ST-8TB

ID or Serial No. based remote access

For Dahua, you have to use SmartPSS for P2P access. PSS does not support P2P (and I doubt they will update PSS any more). Is there an equivalent service for Hikvision NVR's? I'm planning to install a Hikvision DS-9616NI-ST-8TB NVR and would love to try this P2P option on the Hikvision NVR. thx, in advance, VC
  6. Yesterday, I set-up a security cameras system for neighbor using a Dahua 8-Channel NVR with 8 POE ports. I have 4 cameras on this system. Channel-1 has the Dahua PTZMINI12X and channels 2,3 & 4 have Dahua 3MP bullet cameras. Everything seems to be working fine except for PTZ scanning. I can't figure it out. I set-up 14 presets in the camera settings camera initially and then went into the NVR set-up and tried to make the presets auto cycle. I was successful using this same approach for the same camera using a Blue Iris PC based system. Since I was not able to make the NVR automatically cycle through the presets that I set in the camera, I tried a different approach and went into the NVR's PTZ menus and set-up the presets within the NVR. I then pressed the auto scan button on the NVR expecting the camera to cycle through the presets and nothing happens. The camera just sits there in the last position I left it in. I know that the NVR and the camera are talking because I set up the NVR to make the camera go to one of the preset positions and the camera will swing its view towards one of the preset positions. Now I just want the camera to continuously cycle through the presets. Perhaps autoscan is not the correct button to push. I also noticed that there was a tour button. I don't even know what a tour is. I'm wondering if a tour is a sequence of presets. If that is the case, I just need help setting up a tour on this NVR. Any help will be really appreciated. If anyone out there has some advice or recommendations on how to set up a Dahua 8-channel POE NVR so that a PTZ camera will automatically cycle through its presets I would really appreciate the assistance. Thanks in advance,VC
  7. If you decide to use the built in POE feature of the NVR, I have been told to use the same brand camera as the NVR in order to make things go smoothly. There maybe some compatibility issues if you mix and match the brands.
  8. Thanks. I think I have it figured out to set up a tour. Now, I want to know if there is away to set-up multiple tours. Or a sequence of operations such as several tours and then a couple of patterns. Thanks in advance, VC
  9. I just recently purchased a Dahua NVRX16 and have been testing it on my network. I'm able to remotely access it via web browser and via cell phone using iDMSS lite when I'm on a home networked PC or when my smart phone has an IP on my home network. I cannot connect to the NVR outside of my network from a remote location. I currently have a Blueiris system on my home PC and I have no problem accessing it remotely so I don't think it has anything to do with my ISP or the router' or modem's inability to allow access. Perhaps my network is treating an NVR differently than a PC. I must be missing a couple of important steps. I have comcast cable as my ISP. I'm going to give them a call in bit to see they have any advice. Any help that you guys might have will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, VC Here are a couple of photos of my network settings:
  10. NVR admin account is locked. I think with all my attempts to get in withe iDMSS, it automatically locked. Before I can proceed with testing, I need to know how to unlock the admin account. If you guys have any ideas, I would really appreciate it. I didn't realize that these NVR's would automatically lock me out. Geez! Anyways, here are the results of my port scans. The port forwarding is for TCP/UDP for all ports listed below. Thanks in advance for the help. XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is responding on port 84 (ctf). XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is responding on port 554 (rtsp). XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is responding on port 37777 (). XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX isn't responding on port 37778 ()
  11. Here is a little more information. I have two surveillance systems in my home. One is on http port 82. That is my main system. I have hooked up the other system and assigned the http port on 84. While performing a port scan from a remote location, I received the following messages from the port scanner regarding the 2 ports. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is responding on port 82 (xfer). xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx isn't responding on port 83 (mit-ml-dev). xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is responding on port 84 (ctf). For my system with http port set up on 84, I can get to the login screen but once I type in the password, It says connection failed. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm obviously closer than I was yesterday. Last night I verified that the ports in question are both port forwarded in my modem & router. I had to log on to my comcast router to make sure that port 84 was opened. It was not at first and I could not even connect to the NVR login screen. The only thing I didn't do last night was cycle power to my modem and router after opening port 84 on the router. I'm gonna try that when I get home but I didn't want to risk taking down the family internet while the kids are home on xmas break and I was not hope there to fix it. Also, what do the network characters mean (xfer) & (ctf). It seems that, (xfer) means the port is completely open and (ctf) means that the port is partially opened? Thanks in advance & Happy New Year! VC
  12. I have a friend who has a Hikvision DS-7316HI-S at her apartment building and said that only a Windows XP laptop can be used to remotely view the DVR so that she can check out the 16 cameras from her bedroom. She said that she recently got a Windows 8 PC and Mac and is not able to remotely view the DVR's webpage. I was wondering if a firmware upgrade would help me to be able to remotely view this DVR from computers that do not have XP. Also, I was wondering if there is a risk to losing the current configuration when performing a firmware upgrade. I see that there is an FTP option or a USB option. Is one method better than another? Can I reverse the firmware upgrade if needed? Once the firmware is upgraded, I want to set-up the DVR to send emails for alerts. I played with this a bit by entering my freebie yahoo email address as the sender and my freebie gmail as the receiver and was unsuccessful in getting the emailing feature to work. Thank in advance for reviewing my post. Thx,VC
  13. Thanks for all of your help. I got the system running as best as I can for an old DVR. I was wondering if there is an equivalent software package like the ivms4200 and the ivms4500 for the Dahua NVR. If you know of them please let me know. I've been playing with a Dahua NVR and wanted to compare it with the Hikvision. Thanks in advance, VC
  14. Thanks. I checked out the guide. It says that I'm supposed to email the serial number and start time of the DVR to Hikvision. Do you happen to know the email that should be used? Thx in advance, VC Thanks again. After a couple of tries, Hikvision sent the unlock codes. It finally worked once I rebooted the DVR first to get a true start time to match the S/N sent to Hikvision. Now I can finally start setting these DVR's up to satisfy the client's request even thought they are outdated. I gave them a quote to replace but so far, they are not interested: I have a couple of more questions related to these DVR's Can the time that an email notification on motion detection be set to happen during a certain period like between 2AM and 6AM? Why would certain cameras not be permitted to stream video? I get a messge when viewing through ivms 4200 sayingHCNetSDK.dll that "no more users can connect". Should I reboot the DVR to clear this error and to kick off the unknow remote users? When setting up the email notification, there is a box to check that says jpg and it list several time periods starting at 2s. What do these time period mean? Does the ivms4500 cloud service cost money? What is it for.. storage, remote viewing, etc.? On the motion detection screen, there is a large grid. Does the camera detect motion in the grid space? If I erase some of the grid space, is that area not included in the motion detection? thanks in advance, VC
  15. Thanks. I checked out the guide. It says that I'm supposed to email the serial number and start time of the DVR to Hikvision. Do you happen to know the email that should be used? Thx in advance, VC
  16. Thanks. The Spanish guide worked great. I got 3 of the 4 DVR's working well because they had the standard Hivision passord of 12345. Unfortunately, one of the DVR's does not have the default password. Is there a trick or away to find out an admin password or a way to perform a factory reset and clear the user stored passwords? Thanks in advance, VC
  17. Use GMail to send. Check out this guide, it is in spanish but it should be good enough, look at the second screenshot. http://www.securamente.com/como-mandar-emails-por-smtp-desde-un-dvr-o-camara-ip-utilizando-gmail/ Thanks for the quick response and the useful information. The ivms-4200 client worked like a charm with windows 8. Is there a version that works for mac? If that exists, I will be in great shape. I don't know what windows explorer compatibility mode is. If you can tell me how to do that, I would like to try that too as an alternate to installing the ivms-4200 software. I clicked on the link to the Hikvision firmware that you provided and do not know what to click on. There were 2 options as far as I could tell. There was a v3.1 and a V3.2. If I install these, will they automatically know that I'm trying to update the DS-7316HI-S? The version of firmare currently installed on the system is V3.2.0, Build111028. Do I need to change firmware or is my version current? I clicked on the spanish guide for setting up the email and the menus did not look like that when I was working on the DS-7316HI-S. Is that because my firmware is not up-to-date. I think I set up the email properly based on the information shown in the guide. Could there be a setting in the modem/router that prevents outgoing emails? I have a Comcast Business class IP gateway. Thanks again in advance, VC
  18. I am interested in purchasing my first PTZ camera on my home security system and was just about ready to pull the trigger on the Dahua SD42212SN-HN 2MP Mini PTZ when I read a review about the ACTi B95 1080P Outdoor Mini PTZ and started to wonder if the ACT' would be worth the extra $400. I'm currently have a 7 camera system running BlueIris on Windows i7 PC. I was wondering if both of the the cams that I've mentioned would work on Blue Iris. I read on the review that the ACTi camera has excellent performance in low light and I don't recall reading that about the Dahua cam. I'm familiar with the phrase, "you get what you pay for" but $400 is a lot of money and if the Dahua is pretty good, I might be willing to accept the deficiencies. Thx, VC
  19. I may have the opportunity to upgrade a surveillance system that currently has 64 analog cameras connected to four (4)16 channel Hikvision DS-7316H1 DVR's. I would like to install an equivalent system using 3 megapixel IP cameras. I will pull all new CAT-6 cabling. They current cameras use coax. I was thinking of using two 32-channel Dahua ESDV-NVRXPRO-32 32 NVR's or perhaps four (4) Dahua ESDV-NVRXPRO-16 16-Channel NVR's. I was thinking that I could offer a lower price and save some space by having two 32-channel systems but I like the distribution of splitting the job over four 16-channel NVR's so if I get a hardware failure, I only lose 25% instead of 50% of my system. I was going to add three Trendnet 24 port POE switches to power the cameras. I'm trying to decide how much hard drive capacity to add. These NVR's can hold up to 28TB each. I will not do continuous recording but I still may have a need for large storage capacity. I would probably use a large flat screen TV for the displays. I was wondering what would be a good size. Perhaps two 60" screens. Maybe four 42" screens? Another option that I would like to pursue would be to bring all of these cameras into a BlueIris System using a PC. I just don't know if there is a processor large enough to support 64 3 megapixel camera. I have 7 cameras on my home i7 system and it runs at approximately 18 to 28% CPU most of the time. This would be my largest install yet and I just wanted to bounce this idea off of the forum to get some advice or direction before I submit my recommendations. Even though I try to prevent problems, I know that there will be some unexpected events that may cause some difficulties. Any thoughts, ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, VC

Please Help or Give Advice for 64 IP Camera System

There is currently no job for me to pass on at this point. I'm gathering information that may or may not turn into a project. With regard to testing the coax, It would be worth it to try your suggestion and purchase a DVR and a camera for a pre-test. This is a great idea since the quality of the coax is "show stopper". This would at least allow me some breathing space and I won't be "crossing my fingers" hoping everything goes okay. I'ts gonna cost close to $1,500 for equipment to do this test but I could have the customer pay for it as spare parts if they go for the project or just use it for one of the 4 DVR's that I will need. If the test shows that the coax is no good, I could perhaps return it to the vendor for a restocking fee. That would be a small price to pay for some peace of mind. I'll need to think of nice way to write this into my proposal. Thanks in advance, VC

Please Help or Give Advice for 64 IP Camera System

I appreciate the honest feedback. No disrespect taken. Nothing like being thrown into the fire to gain experience. This job would definitely be a challenge but I think I can handle it. I have not misinformed my client about my experience level. They understand that I'm a "newb" and if they don't want the risk of working with me, then I won't be doing the installation. They are not actually sure if they want to go through with it. The main thing that they want immediately is to fix or replace a couple of their cameras that are not working and to set up their existing DVR so that it has multiple user accounts. As an alternate-1 request, they said that they would like to have and all HD camera system. As an alternate-2 request, they said that they would like to have the entire system upgraded and modernized. I'm doing some other consulting work for them providing a security/crime prevention risk assessment of their site and even if I don't do the camera job, the proposed work that I've been asking about will go into the risk assessment report so that they are knowledgeable about reviewing the quotes from the actual installer. This is for a homeowner's association for a condo complex. They are not family, but I think they are willing to roll with me fumbling through to gain experience on the cheap and they appreciate getting a report about their options. The camera upgrade is only one small part of several security upgrades that they are planning to do.

Please Help or Give Advice for 64 IP Camera System

Thanks. This is good solid advice that I will need to seriously consider. I don't want to lose all of my profits going back dealing with issues that I didn't install. I was planning to have an alternate quote for an entire upgrade but got the idea here to propose the HD-SDI solution utilizing the existing COAX as the primary quote.

Please Help or Give Advice for 64 IP Camera System

That is the million dollar question. You never know what quaity coax was installed or if there is any issue with it. It's one of those things you have to try to see if it will work. Yikes. I would have to ask the million dollar question. At least I asked you guys first. If I get the job and buy all of this equipment, I'll be in big trouble if the coax is no good. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could perhaps test the cabling before hand to see if I will have a good chance for success. I suppose that I can write into my quote that the I will purchase one system and test partially before hand before making the big purchase and buying all of the equipment. Are there any coax brands that are known to be of good quality? It likes they have mainly run that Siamese cable. I know that its been installed for approximately 8-9 years.

Please Help or Give Advice for 64 IP Camera System

Thanks it looks like there are many options out there. I just need to find out if they are compatible with the Dahua HD-SDI DDVR. Is there going to be a problem with HD-SDI if the existing COAX is RG59? Thanks in advance, VC
