  1. Something slipped you... Do you need recording&decoding/display or just recording?!

What is so hard to understand? Support is only provided to mid-users (resellers). You get your support from the reseller.
  3. Is the camera and the external NVR interface in the same IP range/class? Even if it detects it, if your camera si 192.168.1.108/255.255.255.0 and your NVR interface is 192.168.0.100/255.255.255.0 you can't connect to the camera!
  4. Bummer. I need 2 tvs for monitring... Best choice: HDMI splitter
  5. You can't... resolutions are linked! Btw, why would you try to use HDMI and VGA to display the same stuff?!

With no offense, but DAHUA can provide a very pro level support (they are long-time manufacturers and, also, they do have some proprietary technology, some "be the first to do that" etc (check it @ http://www.dahuasecurity.com/introduction.html)... The support/dealers stuff came up when some people started selling cheap products at a very cheap price (let's say ebay-ish style), with no support/training/anything like that
  7. Besides the "video recording", you could/should use a serial device to imprint the serial communication of the cash register on the video

Don't try to be a wise guy... we were talking about products sold in US, support and price. Do you have different view?

You paid for Windows from Microsoft, right?! Or that's a different story...

I think there is an authorized seller in Canada. Also, you could just e-mail DAHUA and ask for the best seller for U.S.

Of course... As I stated, releases and releases news are made availabe only to distribuitors.... Usually, DAHUA will e-mail the improvements/new functions and the tech dept of the distribuitor will check/verify/test that.

Some simple tips: 1. Ask for products with DAHUA logo on them (real images, not images taken from DAHUA's website) 2. Ask for demos and check the presence of the logo in the demo web interface (long shot... some use it, some don't) 3. Ask about firmwares and firmware policy; usually, an official DAHUA distribuitor will not give you the firmware, but it will update your product (via Internet) for free 4. Check for the languages supported by the device; If the device you buy it's in your local language that means it's sold by an authorized; if the device it's english only or english+chinese, it's a bought on non-official channels - statement valid only for non-english countries 5. E-mail DAHUA at overseas@dahutech.com for confirmation. Also, DAHUA sells OEM products to lots of sellers (QSEE, etc). The support and the firmwares are the responsability of them, since they are selling them as their own products. I mentioned SAMSUNG/HONEYWELL/BOSCH since they are in the TOP 10 manufacturers of Security Devices, along with DAHUA. Vivotek is on the 22nd place, Arecont is on 31st (based on sales of 2012). DAHUA is a pro manufacturer dedicated to pro installers/users. The fact that the products are sold directly from China (via small offices, not directly linked to DAHUA) make them cheap&accesible. But at a cost level, not at any other level. As from your firmware point of view, all devices use firmwares (even the BIOS is somehow firmwareish, you car's main ECU along with your car's engine ECU, your phone etc; ECU=Electronic Control Unit). But not all manufacturers do release firmwares or firmware updates.

    Dahua firmware

Nice fun fact. True... I see it like a way to keep the devices a little bit safer (harder to "hack" them - but not impossible). Besides the security issue I pointed out earlier (like when someone could just release a firmware with a backdoor in it), there is another issue: DAHUA releases test firmwares to their distribuitors (like the Onvif compatible firmware with the well known admin/admin issue); after that, someone working in some company releases freely on the web the firmware as a "new firmware" with "new features", disregarding the fact that is BETA (or maybe just not knowing). Then it becomes a rush: people search for "latest" firmware, but no one can say all the details about that release. For example, the Onvif beta firmware has been fixed and there is an official release with this (and other) bugs fixed. I know that can be somehow unusual, but that's why DAHUA recommends only "approved" sellers. The fact that some will always go for the smallest price can result in a small price-buggy product combination. I never asked anyone, but how many of the people complaining about firmware problems bought the products from an official reseller? And if they bought it from an official one, did they request a firmware update and the reseller refused that - I highly doubt that! All official resellers have access to latest firmwares and can, at any time, update any device. And, btw, do DSC, BOSCH, SAMSUNG, HONEYWELL offer free firmware releases, just at a click?

Any other way to install webrec.cab??

QT is only for cameras (as in input devices), not for NVRs (as in decoding/playback devices). QT uses RTSP which is rather buggy.... You might have a beta firmware, too Latest firmwares solves the RTSP bug..,

What you are asking me is the difference between runing a version of Windows with a backdoor in the main binary file or loading a backdoor during the loading of Windows... Let's mimic the way a virus works... it usually loads a malware .exe/.com before loading the main application (explorer.exe and others)
  18. dexterash

    Dahua firmware

Not really... can be done via OpenSource tools - with a little bit of knowledge. Yes, we could make a firmware with a backdoor (I suppose - although we will never do or try it) Secondly, you can't fix any bugs... the whole system of DAHUA runs in a single binary format file... you can't modify it. But you can add to the embedded system some stuff. Fact is that the latest firmware you should always get from you seller (and get a trusted one!). And, also, anyone should choose the seller based on other factors than price... even if products are from China.

Well, actually, i do... If you want, I can send you a modified firmware - with your name in the webpage or something... That would prove my point?

Any other way to install webrec.cab??

Well we have tested the unsigned version on latest IE and Windows 8 too... Works, but needs to pay attention. HTML5 requires special compression, encoding in a format that is not natively supported by the hardware

    Dahua firmware

Why would you trust a firmware sent by anyone over Internet (just my opinion)? Aren't you afraid that could brick your hardware or, worst, that someone "planted" a little backdoor in the firmware? The source of your PC's OS is a forum? Just curious and trying to raise the awareness level... we are talking about hidden free access to your cameras... We are also talking about security devices, video access and recording access - better than any malware that records your cameras!

Any other way to install webrec.cab??

Have you tried: 1a. Put the address of the DVR in the "trusted sites" list of IE or 1b. Change settings for "Download Unsigned ActiveX" and "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting" to "prompt"? 2. Run IE with admin rights...
  23. Somehow I agree... I think any security system has a "back-hackdoor" to allow access, but that doesn't meen that anyone should know how to acces it just by googling or accessing a forum. I think the irresponsable here is the guy that posted the document (hopefully he doesn't do the same with the secrets of the security systems he installs). I don't think he even thought that the "lost password reason" could be unreal and that the real reason could be another one...
