yeah i guess the storesafe since kalatel was taken over by GE was loadedwith features though, but more are needed like: fps/pps status on remote view more than 1 audio input removable HDs (though they probably use SCSI HDs) built in DVD-RW (instead of CD-RW) USB/Flash Back up & or back up to PC with firewire cable etc any more ideas, I can pass it on to them for review, or at least they pass it on to someone else in that dept. Im sure they will eventually come out with some if not all or more than these, but like you said it may take some time. I just like the easy install and stability, and it has all the features my clients need, for now! Alot of it is software related to remote video though.

yep, there are ofcourse other factors that may cause problems. Im talking about very short distances, all cameras in the same room (retail store). Normally I only use the Altronix Fused Power Supplies, unless I have a very long run which will use its own power supply near the camera. Just saying I didnt have a problem with the '1' job i used a single 2a power supply 15-18 V for those messed up cheapo kmart type cameras! Then again i wouldnt even throw them in the same catagory as CCTV!

anyone know the price on nuvico DVRs? and any good.

Spytown pushes alot of different brands, great catalog actually, but then can also cause us resellers to loose some sales! Let me know how it goes, Ive never ordered through them but always use them for pricing ideas. If it goes well, I may buy from them in the future. Would be good to know if they carry lot of stock they sell, and.or how long it takes to get shipped. Thanks Rory

Well you could make your own software for some of the name brands.

one power supply for all cameras will not cause a problem, once you use a high enough amps for the number of cameras you have. Rory

some of the all in one quad camera kits (kmart type) use 15volts. They use telephone wire and not cat 5. Check your camera type and make sure it doesnt require more power, ive never heard of 9 volt for a camera also. I was given the horrible job of hooking up one of these last year, to a real crappy PC based DVR system, with no name and no manual for anything. It had already been installed in the previous store, and they just wanted it moved, but it was not even working at the previous store due to improper connections. Anyway, I ended up just splicing the tel wire, power and ground all went to one 2a 15-18v power supply. The ground was actually the ground from each cameras video ground, only way it would work! So basically out of the 4 wires in a 2 pair telephone wire, it uses red for positive, yellow for video, black for ground and green for audio. audio only used 1 wire also. (i may have the colors mixed up just from memory, but it was something to that affect). Ill never touch that kind of thing again, but i needed the extra cash and they didnt want to spend anymore than labour at the time. All that splicing was annoying, but taped etc as neat as possible. another thing they were running windows 98 and doing accounting, POS and word on the same machine so it crashes often!! You can only suggest, can not make them upgrade.

still, can you point me in the direction of another lower end all in on DVR, doesnt have to be embedded DVR, just not a PC system. I want to just stick it in the home and get out of there. Doesnt even need to have ethernet. Need good US support though and has to be reliable, as we spend alot on customs import tax and shipping. thanks Rory

the regular 4 channel DVR i sell (kalatel) costs alot more than that, thats why I said $565 is cheap. Im more for american made, than for asian, due to our proximity to the US and not Asia, plus the US made are generally better products. But i was looking at this as a low end product for home users. Im actually now going to demo a Crow 4 channel USB DVR, it connects to your PC. Rory

I use a free one called Cam Studio, its great, and also allows conversion to Shockwave. Its been upgraded to RoboDemo5, which I think costs money now.

what if the camera is for street protection, like a community, or even the government?

looks identical to the COP line of cameras, generic garbage that doesnt last. I used them for a few months and so many cameras went bad I ended up having to replace them with other brands and never got my money back, they just sent the same cameras right back to me, which didnt work! Also the picture was not that good to talk of. But if thats all you can afford then go for it. Cant compare it though to a better line of cameras like Ganz, Kalatel, Pelco, Ultrack, Panosonic, etc.

highest res ive found is Sanyo, but even there's doesnt give a good image during alot of sunlight with the sharp mode on, only in shady areas. I ended up disabling it on the 2 cameras I bought, 1 indoors and 1 outdoors. The only other higher res I found is Machine Vision which we cant use, and ofcourse megapixel cameras, which cost alot. Then again most recorders wont record in that high of a resolution and the monitors wont see that high anyway.
