  1. Normally no, but depends on the DVR manufacturer.

Most DVRs can be totally different from one another.

Writing code for everything out there is like pulling teeth, and thats after you get past the language barriers.

Some may work with VLC though, then you could restream that out.

The DVR would need to support RTSP though, and VLC needs to run all the time for you to connect.

  2. Is there a "brand name" on the DVR or is it "Dahua"?

In this case its branded by XTS Video out of Florida.

Its the same unit though that others brand under different names.

    Example, the QVis Apollo HD.

I get the QVis cheaper than the XTS so i now use those

But the actual model from the manufacturer is the LE-A.

We can normally tell what is what by the specs alone.

  3. As mentioned the 2.8-12mm Eyeball (Turret style) IR domes, 600/700TVL, run around $100 retail.

They are fairly short range IR but are the step up from the cheap Color IR domes.

Either way indoors it should light it up good.

Otherwise check something like the CNB VBM-24VF for a non IR low light camera in that price range, might be $10-20 more than your budget though.

  4. The CNB TDN cameras, and the 484, both come with IR-corrected lenses. And TDN camera that doesn't shouldn't even be considered. ABF isn't a fix for a non-IR-corrected lens.

We got by just fine before IR corrected lenses came about.

Its all about knowledge and experience

Ok that might not have come across the right way.

What I meant was, there is a way to focus without IR Corrected lens that gives you a great day image and night image. There is however then an inbetween that can be slightly off by about a few % (eg, overcast in the day, etc), however no more than I have experienced with the VBM or VCM 24VF cameras - which claim to have IR corrected lenses.

oops brain slip. Used to have vcm24f, still have bbm24f which needs a lens...

Yet they still need separate focusing under IR for optimum IR focus.

Seems they use a very cheap IR corrected lens if that.

Just saying, from experience with using them, with IR.

But then what does one expect at such a great price tag.

  7. Seriously Ive been using IR cameras for over a decade, and I thought this sucker was broken!

have to go right up to it to only see a very VERY faint glow.

I didnt even think to check the specs for whether it was 830 or 940nm prior to purchase ..

In my case I didnt need IR at all, but impressed it worked so well either way.

Sure its no Bosch Extreme camera, or Panasonic with Raytek ..

But for the price compared to others I have used/tested .. works well.

After all a TDN is just doing the job of 2 cameras anyway.

If you want the best, get 2 separate cameras

  8. I totally understand.

Living on this out island away from civilization though we get used to riggin things up

I prefer the right part though myself, I loose sleep if something isnt done right, or the best it can be. I cant even use 2 different connectors for say positive and negative, they have to be identical. I left a camera hanging today until tomorrow, as I didnt want to mount it without both sides having the same exact beanie (only had 1 on me today). Seriously, I would loose sleep

  9. You can probably get some CCTV complete kits in this case.

Your ad claims 20m IR then in the specs it claims 30m IR .. what gives?

Can you provide a sample image so that we can see the actual IR distance?

  10. I'd rather rig something and have my cameras recording, but if you can wait might need to search ebay or something. Or post a message in the classifieds looking for either damaged GenIV 8LTA (to get the PSU from) or just the PSU. The title of this thread might not capture the right audience.

  11. soundy, how do you find a location from an IP?

Oh yeah .. my own basic one too LOL

    http://ip.bahamassecurity.com/

there are IP to Country databases that one can download and use in their own app.

There are other databases that can then be used for long lat info and then you can just tie that into google earth. I dont use those databases though as they are huge and my poor atom netbook hosting my site cant handle all a that.
