how to bring cables into the house

If you are using premade cables and have a bit of soldering experience, you could cut the connectors off (leaving enough cable to re-solder them together, of course), run the cables through your hole, then reattach the connectors once they're in. This is much easier (for me) than buying cable, connectors, and crimping gear if you don't already have it. Just make sure to use shrink tubing and heat on those connections once you re-solder; you don't want tape on there that could eventually unravel and come off.
  2. I was going to suggest this as well. For my driveway I used a section of fireplace piping that happened to be exactly the diameter as my dome camera to mount it on the inside roof of my carport to lower the camera about 18 inches. Mounted on the wood it would have been too high. I used rivets and L-brackets to mount the camera to the piping and piping to the wood and it looks great and is relatively vandal-resistant as there are no exposed screws. That might not be a good idea for your situation, however so the plumbing pipe would be better at longer lengths.
  3. You're going to need to change the settings on the TV, not the DVR. If you don't have a multi-system TV (PAL AND NTSC) then your DVR picture won't come in clearly. Look in the Video Settings or Picture Settings on the TV for these values.
