  1.

I have a question regarding the connection between MD on a Dahua camera and MD on a Dahua NVR. I have bought a Dahua 3208P NVR and am trying to set it up with MD. The first thing I discovered was that despite all this talk about ONVIF 2.0 compliance, the third part cameras I bought would not work with the Dahua NVR. So I went and bought a Dahua HFW3200S camera. This works in as much as I can get the MD to work after a fashion, but it is totally erratic and when I play with the sensitivity and dither etc. I either get something that doesn't trigger at all or triggers all the time.

My question however is this - what is the connection between the camera and the NVR. Does the NVR issue MD info to the camera. If it does, should I not see this reflected in the camera settings (I don't) ? I am thinking of giving up on buying Dahua cameras and instead use cheaper cameras, and then install common or garden PIRs and use those to trigger the alarm inputs to the Dahua - is this a sensible strategy ?

  2. You forwarded the 3 required ports and it still doesn't work, that can't be good. Are you trying to access it using your WAN address at home, because some routers block this. One way is to have someone outside your network run a port scan, I use nmap, to determine if those 3 ports are truly open as sometimes what you think is open is not because of other issues.

Which 3 ports would those be please, as the user manual has nothing to say on the matter.

  3. Are you sure that you forwarded the appropriate port?

Actually I'm not. As it happens, since I posted the original message I have now got it half working. I can get the Web Service login dialogue, but when I log in I get the message "Main Connect Fail".

I have forwarded the HTTP and RTSP ports, but do I need to also forward either the TCP or UDP port ? The manual has nothing to say on the matter.

  4. This is not a good comparison. All of your laptops have the same software. No one is saying why do we have to pay for the software over and over for each NVR. I'm just asking if it's just software, why is each one more money? Obviously, the manufacturer wants to make as much as possible, but does the software that shows 4 channels cost them more money

than the software that shows 8 cameras?

You are paying a license to use 8 cameras instead of 4 cameras. Does it cost them more? No.

Does it cost Microsoft more if I install just one copy of Windows on 3 different computers? No. Do I do it? No, I have a license on each computer, the same way that you need a license for each camera you are going to use.

However, it would be a lot more transparent if Dahua sold a single model of NVR and charged separately for the software so it was clear what you were paying for - and also allowed one to buy an NVR3204 and upgrade it to a 3208 by buying a firmware license upgrade.

Did the OP even ask what the difference between the 3204 and 3204P was? I didn't think he did? Weird?

I fully knew what the difference was between a 3204 and a 3204P (PoE) but I was just a bit sloppy with my terminology. I don't know why this is weird.

I thought it was weird that Tomcctv explained to you the difference between the 3204 and 3204P since the you didn't even

    ask what the difference was.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying.

  6. I'm gonna take a wild guess here. He might install more cameras in the future??????

Well I realise that is the likely reason, but I just wanted to know perchance whether he thought there was an advantage to using a 3208 if he only had 4 cameras.

Um, I'm gonna take another wild guess. The advantage of using the 3208 rather than the 3204 is so he can add more

    cameras in the future???????????

No need to be sarcastic. He said in his OP "I am looking at getting this NVR with 4 x 2mp cameras." and then asked a question about performance which was directly linked to the number of cameras he planned. He didn't ask what would happen if he added more. I agreed with you that it was likely this was the reason but not certain. I know myself when I first looked at this device I assumed the 3208 had more performance than the 3204 (because there was nothing physically stopping one attaching more than 4 cameras). I subsequently was informed that the difference in price was nothing more than a licensing charge. I was actually only trying to be helpful from my own research.

  7. Thanks for your help guys, I understand now.

I am looking at the 3208 as knowing me I will want to add more cameras at some point.

Does anyone have a manual for this system they could send me, I've searched everywhere and it seems Dahua want to keep it secret?!

The manual is on the CD, but if for some reason you haven't got it, PM me with an email address and I will send it you. It's a bit frustrating because it documents a whole load of different NVRs and you have to sift through for the bits relevant to the 32XX models

  8. I am looking at getting this NVR with 4 x 2mp cameras. Am I correct in thinking that I will be able to record ALL 4 channels at full 1080p 8192mbps? I have searched the forum many times and cannot quite understand if this is the case or if its only 1080p for 1 channel and the more you add the lower the quality gets?

    Thanks

I have the 3208, and really like it but have only connected two cameras so far. Performance is good with two.

Out of curiosity, why are you using the 3208 if you only want 4 cameras - why not the 3204 ? I ask because I am looking at buying a second unit but don't need more than 4 cameras and am trying to decide which one to get.

  9. Hi. the thing to look for is lettering after model number.

between your link and the model number ....... 3204 (which is old) and does not have POE.

your link is the new 3208p which has POE

Perhaps I confused you by not being specific about the suffix P. Re the following Dahua link -

    http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr320432083216-p-190.html

My question remains the same - is the only significant difference between the 3204P and the 3208P in the firmware i.e. is there any advantage at all in specifying the 3208P and only connecting 4 cameras ?

  10. I have a Dahua NVR3208 and am very pleased with it and intend to buy a couple more. However, I am struggling to understand the difference between the different models. Although I only need 4 channels I am happy to pay the extra for the 3208 if I get some additional benefit e.g. performance. Looking at the spec on the Dahua website -

    http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr3208-8p3216-8p-339.html

It seems that the only difference is the number of panes on the display and number of alarm connections. Is this correct, and if I only want 4 channels there is no benefit at all in using the 3208 ?

  11. I have one of these and I can run Web Service quite happily over the LAN, but as soon as I try to access it remotely it doesn't work. (I have forwarded the appropriate port etc). Do other people have this working ?

One other problem as well with the LAN based Web Service is that I can't play back recordings. The on screen options do not match what the user manual says and there is no playback option.

OH !!!!! Bin the other bit's apart from the leads / small board / screws etc not needed & you will just fill up the loft with more junk !!!!!

    Best Andy

I was confused as to why they supplied a spare circuit board, but then I decided that because it is so unintuitive getting it out of the camera housing to thread the cable that there must be loads of people who destroy it in the process - so instead of doing the easy thing and documenting it properly they use a sledgehammer approach !
