I have a Swann DVR8-4000 DVR and it is connected to a Swann 750-Pro PTZ dome camera. The standalone PTZ box (which has a separate IR remote to control it) always works. When I connect to the DVR it works sometimes, but I am convinced it's not just a cable issue - it suddenly stops working when I'm not touching it and then only starts again after fiddling around powering things off and on and unplugging and replugging the PTZ connector. I wonder whether it may be to do with terminating resistors and have rung Swann but their UK TS leaves a little to be desired ("what's a terminating resistor"). I cannot see any switch on the camera and am waiting for their level one support to contact their level 2 support in Australia, but not holding my breath. Is there anyone on here who is an expert on Swann stuff ?Also, I want to multidrop the PTZ so I can use both the DVR and the remote controller, I assume that would also have an effect on termination.
hello
This issue comes form RS485 star construction or long distance .
Normally every dome can set the Termination Resistor to 120 Ohm by switcher .
Can you find the camera address switcher ?
take a photo to me .
Regards
Philip
Have now had a response from Swann and apparently there is a terminating resistor at the camera

Thanks vector18, that did the trick nicely - see resultHi Sir,
Can you please post the isolator picture and advice the model that you used.
Thanks

Can you get your hands on a balun with a built in ground loop isolator?
Just bought one off eBay, seems a handy thing to have anyway. I assume I only need one (just at one end) ?

I am using a pair of video/Cat5 converter boxes (passive) over a run of about 60 metres of Cat6. The attached image shows the picture quality. I am getting a horizontal white bar that moves from bottom to top, also generally waviness of the image. Is this more likely to be some interference or my connections ? Also, as a subsidiary question, I have a telephone cable (3 twisted pairs) running over the same route carrying an RS485 signal for PTZ - can I use one of the pairs of this with Baluns in the same way as CAT5/6 ?

I have an interesting problem running the wiring for a PTZ CCTV camera back to the (Swann) DVR. I have to run from point A to point C via point B. For various physical site issues I can only use wiring that is already in place. I have already sorted the composite video and power issues but need to sort the RS485 for the PTZ. A to B is about 20 metres and I have available a CAT5 and VGA cable. I would prefer not to use the CAT5 if I can avoid it (as I have other potential uses for it) although I believe it would be straightforward over CAT5 as it is twisted pair. My question is whether VGA uses twisted pair (I suspect it doesn't) and if not could I run RS485 for 20 metres over it. Regarding point B to C it is about 60 metres and I have available a CAT5 and a telephone wire. Again I would prefer to save the CAT5 if possible, but my understanding is that I would be fine with the (twisted pair) telephone cable. Is this correct ?

I don't think it's switchable, it's always there
