3MP Hikvision vs. 1080P Swann/Lorex
Q2U replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What is also interesting is that after flashing the Swann\Lorex with the Hikvision 4.x or 5.x firmware (which makes the additional 2048x1536 resolution become available) the 2048x1536 resolution will only run at 15FPS (as oposed to the 1920x1080 which will run at 30FPS). -
Well, there's no doubt about it: Engrish caused that.

Missed the swann system at costco This Lorex is coming
Q2U replied to zikronix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Click on the hyper links for screenshots. These arte the instructions for the SWANN cameras although these instructions will also work with the LOREX cameras, the only difference being the LOREX PASSWORD which is: 000000 (6 zeros)... Alternatively, simply change the IP address on your PC to 192.0.0.100 and then browse to the camera's address (192.0.0 64) and then login with the "admin" UID and password(Swann: "12345" or Lorex: "000000"). This is a much easier procedure. -

CPU needed for 8 1080P IP Cameras
Q2U replied to mrted46's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Indeed -- and -- at a $50.00 price point, a developer who is responsive and receptive to his user's issues, suggestions and needs, the fact that it runs on a widely available software base (WinXP/7/8/2003/2008), and doesn't require a Linux install makes it hard to get a negative assessment to stick to Blue Iris. Granted, it not appropriate for large commercial or governmental operations but for me with my stinking 8 to 12 megapixel cameras it provides an incredible array of options, tremendous flexibility and eye-opening capabilities...for $50.00. -

It certainly sounds like you have a complete understanding of the Blue Iris software. How long did you run and evaluate the Blue Iris software to arrive at your conclusions? -
CPU needed for 8 1080P IP Cameras
Q2U replied to mrted46's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I just purchased this machine for $684.00. The processor is an i7-3770 Quad-core, 3.4GHz. This is a very powerful CPU. I am currently running Blue Iris with 8 IP cameras (14 total Megapixels). 6 cameras are running at 5FPS/4096 Bitrate and 2 cameras are running 10FPS/6144 Bitrate. My "idle" processor usage is between 10% to 14%. My CPU usage rise when motion is detected and recording starts, but I do not have any data on this yet. Building a machine is a lot of fun, but I don't believe that you'll be able to come close to the specs of this machine, especially considering the 90-day return policy, the 2-year warrranty and the modern 64-bit OS which is included. Yes Win8 suQs, but you'll get used to it. Yes, the plastic case suQs, but does that really matter. Yes the 300-watt power supply is small but I'm using it as a dedicated Blue Iris server. Yes, it is loaded with BloatWare but you can download Revo Uninstaller Pro 30-day trial and remove it all which is what I did. This machine is fast, powerful and should meet every need you will have for running Blue Iris and future camera expansion. On the downside, did you ever notice how the fastenest, somkinest, sweetest machine you ever owned always feels slower after a year? -

Great work; should be a sticky and a must-read for those starting out. -
Here is what I have so far. I still have 3 more cameras to install. I haven't yet attempted to optimize the images. Everything is running at each camera's default (except fps and bit rate)...

Blue Iris can only process motion detection itself. -

Q2U replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This is a really good point. Depending on the total megapixels being streamed, one would probably need four (4) Ivy Bridge processors to allow Blue Iris to perform motion-detection on such a large camera count. Whereas, having the cameras process the motion detection and subsequently alert the VMS application that motion had occurred would take a heap of the load off the processor(s) serving the VMS. "Heap." That's a highly technical term don't ya know? -
