    Gated community gate cams

If you have power readily accessible can't you just put a large weatherproof enclosure made of fiberglass and kept secure with padlock and just run everything into that? Mount a small mobile type DVR that the cameras feed in to, or at worst a small 4 channel DVR with a very small footprint and a surface mounted small 7-10 inch lcd monitor for review / setup?

    Picking a new DVR system

I take it you're looking at HD-SDI since you're talking about plugging a camera cable into the back of a DVR. What are you looking to loop the picture out to from the DVR?

    Any smaller shops installing Avigilon?

My last look at the Avigilon product met the same results as a lot of others are mentioning, Avigilon doesn't want any more dealers then they currently have. There is a company in the Vancouver area that is a registered distributor for Avigilon and they can also provide support if needed. Google "Visual Verification Systems". To the best of my knowledge, without being a registered dealer directly they may be the only distributor for Avigilon. Although the Avigilon stuff may be a little overkill for a small job it's certainly a good product and from my experience working with some demo gear back when they were first starting out it's pretty easy to use and gives great results.

    Introductions

Hey all, New to the forum, but have been in the industry for almost 15 years now. I am the operations manager for a Vancouver Canada based security installer / service provider. We originally started in the retail market and made that our niche for the longest time, having worked with some of the largest retail chains in Western Canada. We've recently expanded into more industrial type of work involving the use of thermal cameras for automation as well as installing and maintaining systems within an industrial transportation environment (explosion proof cameras, thermal, etc). I try to learn something new every job I take on and look forward to sharing both my knowledge and picking up some of yours along the way. Cheers, Tom
