  2. Here's the simple, real-world rollup on what the specs say versus what the cameras give. This is comparing the Dahua 3300C, which appears to have pixel-to-pixel sampling for both 2 and 3MP, with the Hik, which upsamples or downsamples one or the other.

    Hik 3MP going from 1080p (1920 x 1080) to 3MP (2048 x 1536):

7% increase in horizontal pixels, 20% decrease in field of view

42% increase in vertical pixels, 18% increase in vertical field of view.

    Dahua 3MP going from 1080p (1920 x 1080) to 3MP (2048 x 1536):

7% increase in horizontal pixels, 7% increase in field of view

42% increase in vertical pixels, 42% increase in vertical field of view.

It really boils down to which field of view does the job you need it to do.

    Thanks for this

  3. Hey Jim,

The 16ch NVR is a 2U device which allows for the extra space for 8 HDDs.

There is suggestions though that the 16ch will be changed to a 1.5U device. That would cut available space to 4 HDDs.

3MP recording is @ 15fps. I'm not sure I see the benefit of 3MP over 1080P apart from bragging rights.

I hope the reduction happens!. I got rid of the 8 port I had for the 16 port. And its great. Swann is great I love it. And I could flash the cameras to get 3mp out of my kit.

For all that are interested, the reduced size 16ch is landing on the 15th. Will be a little while before it's listed though.

Hits costco on the 15th...or becomes a swann product on the 15th? 15th of the month or next month? Is it loud as hell like the 8 channel. The 16 is pretty quiet!

    so....this should be it.

Hikvision list it as 80Mbps in but the current 16 channel is like 130Mbps or something along those lines. Do you know what the max input of the new 16 channel will be?

  4. These cams have a smaller horizontal FOV on 3MP than 2MP, as well as a 4:3 aspect ratio compared to the 9:16 aspect ratio of the 2MP, so if you had a need for either of those, the 3MP would be useful. If you want the HD aspect ratio or the wider view, 2MP is better.

I remember when you did that investigation. The question is, if you kick it back to 2MP do you get the FOV back, one these newer cameras?

  6. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on this system but reading around am seeing that the price recently increased from $900 to $1200 dollars. Is the system still as good of a deal with the $300 price increase? Does it ever go on sale back near the original price? I'd like to get a system soon but I could wait a while if I could save $300.

I have thought about just buying a two pack, blueiris and building a small PC for dedicated storage but I really like the idea of plug and play, also I think that the cost of building a similar system would get me near the same ball park. I've been robbed 2 times in 3 years and would really like to get something decent up and running.

Yes it goes back on sale.

  7. Anyone have any luck upgrading their firmware on the SWANN NVR8-7200? The swann.com/downloads directory has the new firmware update for my NVR but i dont want to do it if its going to break it. I want to update however if there are enhancements, etc with the device.

    Thanks.

Contact swann tech here on the forum. DO NOT ATTEMPT IT YOURSELF

Edit: I see they have aUID fix firmware...my suspicion is this fixes the disapperaring User ID

  8. My camera vendor has finally come back with a response saying that this phenomena is "normal" for this class of camera.

If I don't want the image to flash bright/dark during sunny days that I should be buying a camera with HLC (High Light Compensation).

Can anyone tell me if I'm being fed a lot of bull?

I don't think HLC should be necessary to prevent a camera from having this problem. Surely the camera should be able to cope with normal outside sunny conditions without this effect?

Is anyone else with Hikvision 3MP "2CD" series of camera's having the same problem?

mine had that problem. but they were connected to the swann nvr. firmware upades around and factory reset solved my problem.

  9. well, the Camera's don't really seem to even notice the LED's...

this is the camera pretty much directly above them, keep in mind it's probably getting washed out a a bit by the light coming out the doorway, things might improve over the weekend (it's not looking good though)

and this is showing that they are actually on, the two strips are the ones at the top left of the screen.

not sure what to make of it, they are just not that bright

Thats a shame...not that I had a high hope for them in the first place. On a side note that second camera is terrible!

  10. hi i bought the Costco 1080 nvr with 4 cameras

i was wondering if this camera will work with the nvr and use its poe power

i heard that it has to be the same brand to be able to plug directly into the nvr

i know this is the same but not 100% sure because its hikvision and not swann

    thanks

Yes it will work and yes it will record at 3mp and I have a few of those domes for sale.

  11.

Apparently im on drugs...because I swore it said 704*576 in the drop down but they all say 704*480

HOWEVER with that being said. I have 4 of the 3MP swann cameras (825 series) and they have a different FOV than the 2.1@ 3mp. they also have a different FOV than the 2.1 @ native. And If I kick the 825 to 2.1 the FOV doesnt change!

704*576 is available if your Video Standard under Advanced Image (Display) Settings is 50hz. No drugs needed

    Im a tool!

  12. Thanks for the info. I'm not too worried about the date since I can disabled the date on the camera and use the date on my NVR.

I was a little bit worried about not having the ability to update the firmware via a browser but after reading the documentation on how to flash using TFTP, I'm okay with it. It's just as easy.

Im having an issue with a swann camera that i updated via tftp...one of the resolution options disappeared. Trying to figure out what went wrong.

    What resolution went away?

  14. See the Replies Below

So, are you saying that if I have the Chinese version of the camera, I can only upgrade it with the US firmware through tftp?

Yes, that is correct, and the Day will still be in chinese.

If I successfully get the US firmware on there through tftp, can future updates happen through the browser?

No, It is still reigon locked, there is nothing that can be done about that currently

If not, I would think that the country code can be easily changed, no?

This is burned into the ROM and cannot be currently changed.

  15. it sounds like when you do full screen its auto switching after 5 seconds, and happens to cycle to a port that no camera is on.

its important to know that the swtich on the back of the nvr isn't numbered like a traditional switch...most switches are labeled like this

    1357

    2468

    the swann is labeled

    1234

    5678

So lets say you plugged the 4 cameras into 1 5 2 and 6

When the screen cycles your going to see feed on 1 then 2...and then nothing until it gets to 5 and 6 then nothing till it gets to 1....if that makes sense

    Check it out.
