    PTZ CONTROLLER/DVR

That's great (I think). Its just remembering high school physics that may be a problem, been a very long time. Ive spent an age trying to think of how I understand your post. don't get me wrong, it is clear and informative - its just grasping the understanding. when it goes to connecting bits together, my DVR obviously has the RS485 +/- as do the camera and the ptz controller - can I simply connect the camera and the controller to the +/- on the DVR? IVe drawn a diagram, could you take a look and see if I am getting the grasp of things? The top detailed one is how I think it should look, but will connecting like the smaller one below it work? Another question if I may? I am planning on using CAT5e and baluns for the camera, which will have a maximum length of 15 metres, I don't think there would be a power issue as I will use two of the twisted pairs for power. I am going to run a second run of Cat5e to a second IR day/night camera with a run of perhaps 35metres. Do you forsee any issue with ground loop? The PTZ is new, its a swann 700tvl consumer unit, its replacing one of the cameras that came as part of my DVR package. I am continuing to use 2 of the original cameras, both of which are on shotgun cable, but of different quality and one is suffering from interference hence me replacing it with CAt5e (as well as relocation). Sorry for the constant questions, my diagram is below - notice the professional use of a pink wire
  2. Hi. Having pondered around how best to upgrade myhome cctv I have decided to upgrade o e of the cameras to PTZ. Can anyone advise if it is possible to have a keyboard pyz controller AND be able to use my DVRs PTZ as well. the reason is so I have the ease of the pad/stick when at home but also have control with remote access by using the DVR control. Thanks

  4. Hi, I have had my home CCTV for probably around 5 -6 years and its showing its age. I bought locally and it consisted of a Hivision (note- no 'K') DVR with 250gig HDD, 4 cameras and shotgun cable runs. - it wasn't the cheapest available nor was it the most expensive at around £400GBP I only needed 3 cameras and these are set up outside. Now, at the time I didn't do much research and knew very little about CCTV when I bought it. Its performance has just about been acceptable. Over the last year or so I noticed shocking noise when the cameras were on IR - I found out a month or so ago this was due to very poor 1amp power supplies that came with each camera. the DVR runs from a 5amp supply so I bought a cable splitter and it has made a huge difference. I have decided to begin upgrading. I need to stay analogue for a few years, I have just decorated and cannot drill new holes nor can I afford to go IP/Hybrid just now. If I was to upgrade a bit at a time (finances), what would give me the biggest improvement in quality, new cameras or a new DVR? I am suspecting cameras would give most satisfaction - I have no idea on what specs the cameras I have are, but as they came as part of the kit I am sure they aint too great. the DVR is H264, offers 5 quality levels of recording (lowest/low/normal/high/highest) and has the following recording resolutions: 720 x 576 (is this D1?) but at only 8FPS on each camera 720x288 @ 12FPS 360x288 @ 25FPS Apart from this info, there isn't much more I can offer, Im afraid I will be looking towards the budget market, I would like to use the supplier linked as they are local, I have linked the DVR I was thinking of getting so opinions would be great. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CCTV-Warehoue/4-Channel-DVRs-/_i.html?_fsub=1556040010&_sid=888669870&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 the cameras - I need bullet cameras am i correct in going for 600TVL as going higher on analogue would be a waste? I know the forums are full of 'what kit' posts so apologies for going the same way but opinions on this locally supplied kit would be appreciated. If the one listed is no good then what about the AVTech KPD674? so how about it, cameras or DVR first, which DVR (at around the above prices)?

    Using No-ip and the like

thanks for that. As per my last post, I changed some ports (the DVR wanted 80 as standard - I had selected 85). I have changed the ports to 9000 and get better response from xxxxxxxx.no-ip.biz:9000 and can reach the DVR web interface which prompts me to download the viewing software - but this is only good for windows - this can be done from outside of my network so it appears that the port forwarding is fine. the app just times out when trying to connect to the same address, but only when the app is using anything other than my home network to connect, within my network and using the same no-ip details it is fine. *Edit* I think I have just grasped what you are saying. Going by the above, the web interface is open to port 9000 where it downloads the software, but the software itself may require another port. I have however managed to get a friend to connect from outside the network using the same app on his iphone. / *further edit* I have ran a port check and the dvrremoteviewer software (web based interface) when connected uses port 9000 so the correct ports are open

    Using No-ip and the like

I understand that lot is a little confusing, sorry about that. I've now got access to my DVR both by using my internal 192. ip and also my no-ip host/redirect address using the app but only when connected to my network. I have tried again with my 3g and have no joy. A friend can connect using the same app using his iphone but with a different mobile provider. there 'may' be issues with my mobile network or the app itself i'm still working on this. the video below (sorry no link again) shows the exact same config. menu for my DVR. if anyone has any ideas on a suitable android app that would be great (ive tried dozens from the market) QtZ4N7e1tbk
  7. Following my post in another section here http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35293 I have had a play with my DVR which has a web interface to view remotely. Ive also found an app called iwatch dvr II which works on my nexus 7.... sort of. Heres my problem. I have no trouble viewing when I use my network internal address of 192.xxx.xxx.xxx:85 nor do I have a problem if my nexus is connected to my wifi and I use my external ip address of 31.xx.xxx.xxx:85 nor if I use my web browser pointed to my no-ip host the app I have does not recognise my no.ip host. I think its because it changes my host to admin@xxxxxxx.no-ip.biz if I use my web browser on 3G to connect to 31.xx.xxx.xxx I get to the DVR home screen which gives a link to download the viewing software (windows only). but if I try with the app on my 3G pointed to my 31.xx.xxx.xxx then it does not connect. I have found that a potential issue is that when an app asks for the ip address/port then that connection (in a browser) takes me to the DVR's software download page which in turn provides a link to click, once this software is downloaded user details are entered here. but with the android app this seems to be bypassed when using the home network any advice? ive tried a dozen apps. to summarize, using my IP address 31.XX.XXX.XXX with a browser is all good. Using the app, admin@31.xx.xxx.xxx when connected to the same network - no issues. When using 31.xx.xxx.xxx over 3g with a browser it connects to download the viewing app (dvremotedesktop - windows only). when using 31.xx.xxx.xxx over 3g and using the app it does not work.

    Cleaning up my images

its on all of cameras, with a varying degree of severity
  9. Hi all, Im new here so please be gentle, I apologise in advance for my lack of technical understanding and also if this is posted in the wrong section. I have an issue and could do with some help. I have a home CCTV system comprising of a 4 channel DVR (Hi-vision), 3 day/night cameras, (connected with shotgun cable and individual PSU's) and a 17 inch LCD monitor connected by VGA. ive had it for around 4 years. I have had a lot of interference, at night 2 or my cameras are un-viewable, the third isn't much better. I read about something called rolling humbloc and tried a ground loop isolator on one camera, this gave no improvement, I left in-line for a few weeks and found yesterday that the picture on that particular feed became shockingly worse, Eventually I removed the isolator and the feed became viewable again. I have a video on youtube showing the typical interference I am suffering - imagine it at night, where it is much much worse. Sorry, im struggling with the youtube code but the vid is at any ideas? I am seriously looking to change my system as I would like remote access. although the Hi-Vision does have a basic web interface, I would rather a smartphone app type. However I am worried that I will suffer a similar picture issue. Now, I am in the UK, and my budget would be £400 (600usd). I would require at least 3 cameras but would prefer 4. I would really want 8 channels, so upgrading is a possibility. So far my leading prospective buy would be this swann system as it has 2 PT cameras. http://www.maplin.co.uk/500gb-pro-cctv-kit--smartphone-controlled-pan-tilt-dome-cams-and-live-streaming-636695 any input/feedback would be great. TIA. Matt
