  1. So after some back and forth with Axis tech support guy it turns out what he told me was not entirely correct. The P3367-VE will record to a large disk but it can only manage files automatically, that is using the "delete files older than" parameter, that are under 52 weeks old. So in order to clean up my files, I only needed to delete the files older than 52 weeks (which weren't very many in this case) and then the camera deleted the rest according to that parameter. This seems like a bug to me, but they wouldn't admit that. Also, I am able to do a multiple selection of files using the control key on a single pages (20 files per page), but I can't select multiple pages of files which is what I really wanted to do. -Tom
  2. I have a P3367-VE that has been recording to both it's SD card as well as a NAS for 9 months or so. There are 34,000 files according to the camera recordings UI on the NAS. I want to clean them up, essentially delete them all. In order to delete files in the UI you have to select them one at a time (no, there is no multi-select) and click delete. It takes about 1 full minute for the file to delete and the list to be redisplayed. It would take weeks or months to delete them this way. So, I deleted the files directly from the NAS. But now the camera still sees the files, and while I can still delete the reference to it on the camera it still takes the same amount of time. I also set the parameter that says "delete files older than" to a small time (1 day) but nothing changed. So I opened a case with Axis support asking them how I can delete them (in my lifetime). The answer I got back surprises me and I don't know if this is just a junior tech not knowing what he is talking about or what.... He claims:"I checked the server report and found that the network share is 2.7TBytes. Our cameras support only 2TBytes and for this reason the camera can't delete old recordings." First, this just seems stupid. Given that 3-4 TB single disks are prevalent and that NASs often have many many TB of space (petabytes even) how short sighted could Axis engineers have been? Second, the fact that the files don't exist (any longer) on the NAS this just seems like a bug. And third, setting "delete files older than" apparently doesn't work and is also a bug. Not to mention the fact that he says the camera can't delete old files, but it DOES delete them, just way too slowly! Has anyone else encountered this? Tom
  3. What is the best way to access my P3367-ve on an iphone if I just want to see live view for a minute? I ran ACC and enabled internet access but I don't see an Axis app in the App Store so not sure how they intend for me to access the camera remotely?
  4. I am trying to send sms (text) messages for events off my Axis (p3367) camera as well as videos and/or images. I am on AT&T and so I try +1XXXYYYZZZZ@txt.att.net (for SMS), or +1XXXYYYZZZZ@mms.att.net (for images/video). I cannot get images or video at all. The text messages seems to be garbled, I can only read one word of the subject line, the rest of the subject and all of the message body are gibberish. I assume it is a text encoding issue between the Axis and the ATT message gateway. I wonder if the Axis sending UTF-8 encoding and if there is a way to change what it sends? Has anyone had success with this on ATT at all?
  5. I tried this last night on my iPhone while home (with Wi-Fi turned off). I viewed the recorded video from my P3367 using a weak LTE signal. The picture was fine. There was no difference between the top half and the lower half. However, the video did lag. I would say that I see one second of video for every two seconds of real time. At worst, one second of video every three seconds. I would say it lagged about 75% of the time that I was watching the recorded video. I don't think it is due to my ability to "send' the video as I can watch recorded video from work (using ACC) without any lag. Your event that records video, is the Stream Profile set to save the video using the "Quality" profile or something else? I contacted EyeSpyFx and am pleased to say they very promptly responded (within a couple hours) and acknowledged there is a memory limitation in the app that is causing my issue and they said they would fix it in the next release. If I want to apply a bandaid I can record at a lower resolution...
  6. No offense taken. I updated the app on my ipad this morning and had to end up deleting the app from the ipad and reinstalling it to get it work again. It wouldn't log me in and run. It knew my userid and stuff it just wouldn't connect. After removing the app and having it get my login info again it worked. Just for fun I tried the update on my phone but didn't have this problem. It worked ok after the update. By the way, I have an issue with this application (both ipad and iphone) when viewing recorded videos done by the P3367-VE. I am recording using the built-in "Quality" stream profile. When I view recorded videos with this app, the lower half of the frame is just a smear of vertical lines. The upper half of the frame is fine. Anyone else with a P3367 that can verify this issue?
  7. I would definitely discourage you from clicking record while in the app. If you do you will likely end up with a ACC_Manual process running on your camera and as far as I know (according to Axis support) the only way to get rid of it is to reset to factory defaults. I really suspect there is a way to get to the kernel on the box (I think they run Linux) and kill that process but they wouldn't tell me how. Perhaps some hacking will be need to be done soon... The iphone 5 may indeed help a bit due to more processing/graphics power and also LTE if you are using it over cell network like I am....
  8. They have two 5mp sensors. Each one ultimately produces 3.1mp (they combine pixel sites on the sensor to get more light - a sort of down-sampling). This technique has been used on dslrs in the past to get better noise and low light characteristics. If you have a day and night you can only use one or the other. If you have two day, or two night, you can combine them and you have 6.2mp.
  9. I have been playing with the P3367VE that I have mounted at the front door of a house. I have some questions and some observations. For setting up motion detection I would use ACC because of the complicated shapes you can make. They would be ideal with the front area I have. However, in ACC there are no controls to set size of object, sensitivity, etc. So, when I got it set up, the smallest movement of anything would cause it to record. I even set the scene to be just a wood deck, no other plant or anything in the view but it was sensing something and wouldn't stop recording. I finally gave up on it and instead I am using the normal include/exclude windows in the Detectors set up. There I can easily control the size of the object that it will detect. Observation: in the motion detection set up, the Object Size parameter is in some strange proportion to the window size. It isn't directly proportional though, I have a large detection windows and had to set the Object Size down in the small range to detect a person, whereas in a quite small detection window I had to set Object Size quite large to detect the same person. You really need to have the object you want to detect (a person or car) to move around in the window to see the effect. Makes it kind of hard to set the parameters without help. Question: Anyone know if the top border of a motion window, or exclusion window, is included in the motion detection area being observed? Or is it just what you can see in the window not including the tab border? Observation: Additional conditions in an Action Rule are ANDed with other actions. That is, for a given event to be triggered ALL conditions must be true. I thought it was an OR so I configured something like If motion is detected in window 1 OR motion is detected in window 2 then write video to SD card. Nothing was getting written, because it isn't "OR", it is "AND". I would have to have had motion in both windows simultaneously to get it to record the event. This is a bit unfortunate as it means you have to define a bunch of events for each window you want to detect motion in versus having, say, a Driveway region and having three detection windows included in that. Not terrible, but something to be aware of. Question: Is there a way to write video (on motion detection, or other) to both the SD card AND a network share at the same time, or do I have to set up separate events for the same thing in order to do that? I don't see how to select more than one device in a given detection window. It seems like a waste of resources to set up two of the same events in order to record both, but that is what it looks like to me, yes? Question: What exactly is AVHS and why would I want to use it? Is it essentially paying someone to monitor my cameras? I am confused about what the difference is between the Image Appearance setting under Video Stream, and the Capture Mode in Camera Settings, and the Stream Profiles. Are these all one and the same or are they different? I am trying to figure out the best quality and frame rate I can capture with the camera. Also, how does frame rate play into that? It is welcome to use the full 70Mbps or whatever it can achieve while recording (assuming i can get it to write to my NAS at the same time as SD card). I may have 3 or 4 cameras eventually but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. That's all for now. I am sure there will be more questions coming

    Mobotix or Axis

Under Setup menu -> System Options -> Maintenance -> Calibrate (calibrate focus and zoom) Have you tried that?
  11. Yes it was hilarious getting hundreds of images I have a DSC security system in the house. The PIR sensors (a different model) have always been quite reliable, except that we learned that mylar balloons floating around set them off By the way, Newegg has these for $75. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1ZC0K70313&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle8&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle8-_-Surveillance%20-%20Home%20Safety%20%26%20Security-_-DSC-_-9SIA1ZC0K70313
  12. I don't think it is a translation issue. I think what they are doing is using 5mp sensors but only using 3.1mp per sensor to improve light capture. The delivered image is either 3.1 or (2 X 3.1)=6.2 according to the D15 user manual. So, if you have a DSec-Night, you have either a 3.1mp color OR 3.1mp B&W image. The manual is quite clear about it, so if it is a translation issue then they really went out of their way to confuse! Go to http://www.mobotix.com/other/Products/Cameras/DualDome-D15 and click on the second icon on the top right that looks like a book with a camera on it. Several places throughout this manual they talk about it including the Forward, the section "5-Megapixel Image Sensor Technology" and 1.1.2 "Advantages And New Features", among others. From section 1.1.2: "Due to technical reasons, the maximum size at which the images of a D15D sensor can be displayed is 3.1 megapixels (live or recorded). Despite this, the D15D outperforms the previous D14D model and other dome cameras on the market in many respects"
  13. Hmm, I was afraid of that. I need 50', more would be better. So I would have to add another PIR sensor, assuming that is possible. I have been looking at Mobotix's information today. I find their information to be confusing and intentionally misleading. Their "6mp camera's" are NOT, they are 3mp and through the power of marketing they magically become 6mp because you can combine two images. Unless, of course you want the camera to work in low light, then you have to have a night sensor and, in my case, have both pointing to the same scene and get one 3mp image at any given time. I do like the fact that they have built in audio, and PIR. But 30ft will only do part of what I want and that comes at a $600 premium compared to the Axis....

    Mobotix or Axis

That's great, but they have a more fundamental problem. They had better improve the motion sensing otherwise my camera will be tracking the sun moving behind clouds, lightning flashes, cars lights out of frame at night, and several other non-motion events.
  15. Hmm you have a good point. I was considering a speaker and mic and now PIR.... I could put the 3367 at a different location, or return/sell it.... I may have to look at the Mobotix again... Thanks ps: Any idea what kind of distance the PIR on the Mobotix can detect to?
  16. Well, I hoped you were wrong, while knowing all along you were right. This evening a thunderstorm was thoroughly convincing. I got a text message (and recording) with every flash of lightning. Earlier today the sun coming and going behind clouds triggered it, Sigh. I guess you gets what you pays for, as they say. There are detection algorithms that can work fine outdoors, it just isn't this one! Oh well. So will a PIR be fooled by moving trees or not? Any suggestions on which ones to use? Thanks for the info you sent on streams as well...
  17. Perfection? No. Who said anything about perfection? Axis support got back with me and said the problem is with the mobile app. When you click record in live view in the app it starts an ACC_Manual event that doesn't get removed until the app removes it. They said they would discuss the problem with the Eyespyfx and see if they could do something different. You are thinking about a different user that got one of each (as it were)...
  18. My wife gets updates from our local sheriff and forwards them to me, usually a list of break-ins in the area. I thought this was interesting, and it validates that having security can be a deterrent. It also is interesting that having signs indicating the presence of an alarm is a deterrent. I have not bothered with signs as I always thought that a thief wouldn't believe them or wouldn't care. Guess I will re-visit that!
  19. So Axis support had me perform a reset to factory defaults. That, of course, worked but now I am back to reconfiguring everything. I asked them for more info, like why did this get created. Hopefully they will give me some useful info.... Sigh.
  20. Speaking of apps running in the camera and ACC.... since using the EyeSpyFX app last evening (see my post here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=36208&start=15) I have a recording showing up on my camera called ACC_Manual that will not go away. It is recording all the time and I can find no way to shut it off. I have quit all ACC apps on the iphone/ipad and computer and rebooted the camera several times but when it boots this always launches and records. Any ideas on how i can get rid of it? I submitted a support request to Axis on it as well but they haven't gotten back to me yet....
  21. In the interest of the community I decided to learn from the mistakes of others by repeating them myself. So, I bought the Viewer for AXIS Camera Companion By EyeSpyFX for $9 from the App Store and installed is on my iPhone 4S and iPad. I logged it into the same account I set up for ACC. It was able to connect to the camera and display the live view. It seems fine at doing that. You can take a snapshot of what is in the live view which it saves to your photo album. That seems to work fine. You can also record a video of the live view, though apparently, at least on my iPhone and iPad, that is broken. It brings up REC in red on screen but either on it's own, or after I hit the record button again, it complains that "Camera Companion - Error starting/stopping recording." No matter what I try this just doesn't work. You can hit the recordings button (a camera reel icon) and it will take you to a list of your recordings. It shows the time of the recording, the date and duration. If you hit the ">" in the display it shows you more details, where it is recorded (ie, SD_DISK) start time, stop time, the event that caused it and a few other datum. If you touch the file in the list it will bring up the recording and begin to load the images. It is quite slow, displaying a series of images about every 5-10 seconds until it gets all the way through the recording. You can pause and resume, and you can drag the slider back but that doesn't really work due to the time it takes to load the images. If you drag it back, for instance, it just spins for 5 seconds or so and then displays that image and begins loading (at the 5-10 sec interval) again. You can drag it forwards but it then jumps back to near the beginning (but not the beginning - odd) and starts from there instead. You can't zoom or pan or anything. So, you won't be doing and "analysis" of the recorded video but you can play it. You can also take a snapshot during the playback of recorded images and that works fine. You can also (sometimes) record while playing back recorded files (so a recording of your recording, if you will). I say "sometimes" as I was able to save recordings of the recordings that I took in daylight but for some reason I can't do it for recordings that are in B&W. It also sometimes distorts features in the B&W video. One video show decking boards all smeared vertically. That is not in the recorded video viewed on ACC but it is always there when viewed on the iPhone. Also if I take a snapshot the distortion is there. Very odd. The error that the app gives when I try to record a recorded B&W videos is: "Error Saving Video - There was a problem recording the video." The app has crashed on me many times as well. That has only been when messing around with video or trying to record things, never in live view, but still pretty amateurish. The UI leaves a bit to be desired. I loaded it on the my ipad as well. It is a little snappier at failing It has exactly the same behavior even down to distorting the one video in exactly the same way and not wanting to record any B&W recordings. The ipad screen is a nice size though for viewing these videos/recordings. So, my capsule summary: If you absolutely need to be able to remotely view your recordings than this seems to be the only game in town. It does work, though barely. Live view is fine, though video recording doesn't work (on ipad or iphone), snapshots do. IP Cam Viewer allows you record video of live view reliably so if that is your need I would go with that for free (or $4). Is $9 too much? Yes, pretty much - but again, it depends on your need. I would feel better if there were constant updates and improvements but I don't see that and I do see a fairly amateurish application. Too bad, it seems incongruous with the rest of Axis' offerings and marketing. Perhaps they will come out with their own version at some point.
  22. Thanks for all the responses. I will check check them out. The way Axis docs read you'd think they have their own app that is essentially ACC. Oh well...

    Mobotix or Axis

Thats it! Awesome. The whole camera module rotates in the gimbal mount. It is friction fit and you just need to apply a small amount of force but it rotates nicely in any direction! Thanks!!

    Mobotix or Axis

P3384 does not have that feature for some reason. or I have not been able to find it --Edit never mind, have to put it in light finder mode to get into those settings Have you tried "Enabled Backlight compensation" in the Camera settings? That should take care of it...

    Mobotix or Axis

I realized today that my p3367 doesn't move in the direction I need it to. I can move the camera up/down and rotate it around, but there is no left/right (or yaw) movement. I want to mount the camera on the wall that my front door is in, but to left of the door. Then I want to angle the camera so that it just catches the door. I first thought I could do this by just using the rotate 90 degree feature in the video config along with rotating the camera itself. This works, but the aspect of the image is turned 90 degrees so it is long and thin (iow, it is moved vertically) and that doesn't work. So, I need to figure out a way to either physically move the sensor 90 degrees or I need to devise a unique mount that will let me put it in an inside corner (rather than flat on the wall) such that it is angled back towards the door about 50-60 degrees. The inside corner mount will have to be able to be attached securely and not easily removed, and also be able to sit flat on one side but fit against angled lap cedar siding on the other. It is a dilemma for sure. I guess I will contact support and see if there is a way to rotate the sensor 90 degrees, but I suspect the answer is going to be no.
