  1. Sorry about the late repost. I do not know if the setup worked with the immervision lens out of the picture. I was fowarded an email about this from the immervision rep and I apparently posted this in such a way to indicate that I did not receive the support on this issue from the vendors.

    1. All parties did there best to solve the problem. The Pano rep, the immervison rep and the onssi rep all tried over a period of a couple of months to make this particular combination work.

    2. Immervison product worked as advertised but in this application and combination for whatever reason we could not sync up audio.

    3. The fact that I may need to sell my lenses has nothing to do with the quality of the product I do not have an immediate need and I can use the cash as this portion of the project has cost me quite a bit of money with having to buy and additonal camera and refund money to the customer.

I think all three products are excellent but I posted this to help others avoid this same problem or at least do a extensive bench test prior to install.

I'd be quite curious exactly how the Lens causes this issue, surely you could just enable an audio adjustment in the software, seeing as using a different lens makes the issue go away is the SDK actually delaying the video stream as it's processed?

  2. When people are paying for the power and having their internet hammered... bad idea

your BEST idea is if your houses are close enough... Run wireless Camera's, beef up the antenna, store it yourself.

DVR's are always a crap idea, NVR is what you want, can I suggest you look at community funding for this before you spend a cent? if they won't pay for it, why waste your time, even if their words lead you to believe they care.

  3. Hi,

I would like to install 4 outdoor security cameras . I'm looking for the best solution in terms of cost/effective.

I already have 4 cat7 ethernet cables installed inside my walls .

    My questions :

    1. Is there any IP cameras with POE ( Power over ethernet) in reasonable prices ( 100-150 $ ) ?

    2. Please see the IP camera on the following link ( not POE camera) :

    http://dx.com/p/qqzm-1-3-cmos-2-0mp-h-264-ip-network-camera-w-ddns-4-ir-led-ir-cut-beige-203500

What is the best way to connect this camera to my cat7 network ? how do I connect the power my ethernet cable ?

I know that for normal cctv cameras ( not IP ) , I can attach a BALUN , like this one :

    http://dx.com/p/passive-video-audio-balun-for-cctv-network-rj45-pair-37659

    Thanks a lot

I'm a bit confused why you're so keen for Cost effective camera's when you've run cat 7!

there may be camera's that are that cheap and do PoE but I'd not want to touch them (maybe hunt for a Dahua, I believe there are some on special for $165 at the moment, do a forum search)

you can also run a 12V PoE injector over short distances if you get stuck on that one.

  4. A little bird told me that Mobotix will be replacing all of their 3MP with a 5MP with 2x the low light performance very shortly. Very shortly should be 30-60 days but knowing Mobotix it may be longer so no promises.

will that be at a 200% price rise?

will they not actually allow you to run the camera' at the full 5mp resolution, if you do will it be at like 5fps!? :P

I have a few weeks to make a decision where to go so maybe they'll come to the party, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do the panamorph as well (so the pixels are in more useful positions)

    Thanks for the heads up!

  5. I'd go the Geo anyday! not impressed by what you get from Mobotix

only reason I'd not go Geo is if your NVR does not support displaying of the De-warped views OR you have a location that has greatly differing light amounts, at which point I'd just go multiple 100 degree camera's

  6. I may have to stoop to this unit, really want a 5mp unit though.... covering such a large area really make sense to get the pixel density up..

Speaking with a few experts in the 360 field they've brought up one really good reason to avoid it, a single 360 will not be able to adjust for the various lighting conditions (we have sunlight coming through some of the doors into our warehouses, so lighting conditions can vary greatly)

I really liked the two other 360 degree options recommended by Milestone, but the WDR issue would need to be tested before going too far, Milestone's suggestion of looking at the Immervision len's was a good one, they "bend" the image into the sensor slighly differently giving you more pixels further away from the camera, see here: http://www.immervision.com/en/security/security_panomorph_lenses.php

the only issue is that again, with such a large area, and in the case of our business we don't need massive frame rates, instead we want pixels, so we'd want a 5mp sensor in there, and the "current" version of that immersion lens that's $600-800 by itself depending on who you ask, only supports 1.3-2mp (they say) the 5mp one is listed as existing but no-one will tell me a price!! so rather than getting your $600-800 fisheye you're then stuck with a $500 camera and a $800+ dollar lens!!! for $1300 I can buy a LOT of camera and a LOT of storage (Dahua for $300 each, HDD"s for our storage are $200 for 4tb)

the other direction is the Grandeye, getting a price out of anyone is proving quite hard : http://www.oncamgrandeye.com/45-grandeye.html

  7. This gets even better!!! the dewarping plugin ONLY works with Corp/Ent

well, this camera is whipped straight off the interesting list.

    Description:

When using the XProtect® Smart Client, fisheye streams from Vivotek cameras are not dewarped.

    Solution:

XProtect® software is not able to dewarp this type of fisheye image.

A proprietary plug-in from Vivotek is available for the latest version of XProtect Smart Client (when connecting to XProtect® Corporate or XProtect® Enterprise servers) that enables image dewarp and PTZ.

The plug-in and related documentation can be downloaded from Vivotek at: http://www.vivotek.com/downloads/downloads.php?kind=plugin.

This KB Applies to the following Milestone products:

    XProtect Enterprise 7.0

    XProtect Enterprise 8.0

    XProtect Corporate 4.1

    XProtect Corporate 5.0

    XProtect Corporate 4.0

    XProtect Corporate 3.0

    XProtect Corporate 3.1

  8. I own a company where we do voice/ data cabling, phone systems, and a few other business based services.

I have been requested on two jobs we're reviewing to install the IP cameras for surveillance. I have a local supplier where I can buy the camera's and get trained on the programming. What (if anything) is required for us to install these camera's as it relates to licenses (ie- NC electrical or other) or can we simply install the camera's for the companies that are requesting? are there any ways around the system if some form of license is required?

While I'm sure there are some certifications you could throw money at just like comms cabling, security stuff is pretty easy...

I do suggest you play around with a few systems before going for full on deployments though.

  9. Morning all!

we have been using Milestone across a few sites and it's working really well, we're at the point however where we are in need of some 360 degree camera's for indoor or widely used area coverage, the problem we have is that no-one seems to show video's of how well their cam's work with Milestone, the issue is that while a lot of these camera's work with Milestone none of the reasonably priced (sub $1k) units will let me record the entire stream, but de-warp out 4 x 90 degree streams for display simultaneously in the Smart Client and Mobile Clients...

So far I'd love to try the Vivotek 5mp, but it looks like I can't even get the stream to run at the maximum resolution (listing as max resolution of 1920x1920, not 2560x1920 as the sensor is? wth)

the other issue is that you cannot "enable" stream stripping or de-warping in Milestone, as it's something that camera company has to licence with Milestone, I also don't want to have to buy a camera licence for each of the 4 camera's in for example the Mobotix system, nor pay the ridiculous amount of money these guys want for their camera's)
