    320x240 vs. 680x480

What is the difference between 320x240 and 680x480? I was recording at 320x240 and getting six days of video on my 340 Gig. hard drive. Now I have switched it to 640x480 and I am only getting three days of video. Is the 640x480 worth it? My other record settings are. 340 Gig HD 4 Cams-2 Audio 640x480 Video Quality - 4 Round The Clock Geo MPEG4-ASP = 3 Days 340 Gig HD 4 Cams-2 Audio 320x240 Video Quality - 4 Round The Clock Geo MPEG4-ASP = 6 Days

How to adjust the brightnes properly

I have a GV800 card running Geo 8.2 with Two Pelco 1390's and Two Panasonic WV-CP474's. They are all day night cameras. They all have an auto Iris lens. The problem I'm having is. At night it is real dark out there. So I turn up the video signal gain and I can see thing a lot more better. But when the Sun comes up the picture is to bright. Any suggestions how to fix this problem so I don't have to keep re adjusting the video gain when I get up? Thanks Dave

    320x240 vs. 680x480

I'm Dave. I'm from Concord Ca. (Bay Area) I live in an old dark neighborhood. People are always coming here to rip off and vandalize. You can see a video here of me chasing off the last guy that was trying to steal my Honda a second time. http://fototime.com/58831F27E992156/conv.wmv That was a Swan system. We were unable to identify the crooks. Or what type of car it was. It did not record in mpeg 4. So I did a lot of research and I found this place (CCTVFORUM) and built myself a Geovision System 8 port - 4 cams. 2 Pelco 2 Panasonic. And one mic. Currently setting up a fifth cam that will be just for license plates and car close ups. Since I set up this new system. I have seen and stopped or have been able to explain many things That's me Dave. Thanks for all the help guys. Especially Rory who has helped a bunch. Dave Here is a video of the current setup. During the day and night. If anyone has any ideas that would help on the night view. I sure would appreciate it. Thanks again Dave System: Cam -1 Panasonic WV-CP474 Day/Night Cam - 2 Panasonic older model Cam - 3 Pelco 1390 Day/Night Cam - 4 Pelco 1390 Day/Night DAY Video http://fototime.com/D262D5DE1FE2E36/conv.wmv NIGHT Video http://fototime.com/3E71C81361BFB53/orig.avi Here is a great site I would like to share. Geo 8.2 Problems or opinions

Can someone tell me why my 8.2 Software looks different than the picture above. It seems I have all the new options like PIP. And it says it is version 8.2 But the face or skin is the same as before. Not like the pic. above. Do I have a fake or beta or something? Thanks Dave

  7. Can I get the Geovision sound to play for me while I surf the web? Also can I keep the sound for the video playback playing while I surf the Web? I have a GV800 system with the 8.1 software. My sound card is a Sound Blaster Pro Audigy SB 2 ZS model. Also can I get the Quadview to start up not in full screen when the computer restarts. Right now it starts up in full screen with the eight camera view on. Thanks for the help. Dave

Geovision sound while searching the Web???

Thank you. The Quad view config. at startup is working great now. Does anyone know how to listen to the Geovision sound while surfing the web? Is there an add on piece of software to do this if the Geovision software wont do it? Thanks Dave
  14. Is this a good lens for Wide View? The furthest point I will need to see is about 25 or 35 feet. The camera is on my house pointing toward the street. I would like to get a wider view of the sidewalk. It is about 20 feet from the camera. I would also like to see a wider view of the front yard. From what I can understand. The 2.8 is the width. And the 12mm is the distance??? Thanks for the help. Dave Link for the Lens. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350012573744

Is This Lens Good For Wide View ?

One other question is. Why is that lens at the link above shaped so oddley? Most of the 2.8 lens look more like the lens I have now. But this lens is wide and longer. Is it shaped like that so it can get the close view?(narrow) The reason I ask is I dont need a close view (narrow) I need the wide view. And the smaller the lens the better. Thanks Dave

Is This Lens Good For Wide View ?

Thanks Rory. Is 2.8 about as wide as they go? Do you have any sugestions for a wide angle lens? I was thinking maybe a fish eye type lens might work good also. Thanks Dave

    Extra two min. on Backup

When I make a Backup. The Geovision program saves 2 minutes of video in the front and the back of the video that I am trying to save. There is no sound during this extra two + two minutes. Is there a way to fix this so that it does not save these extra four minutes? When I put the backup DVD in the drive and the backup loads. It always starts on the last clip. Is there a way to make it start on the first clip? Thanks Dave
  18. I have a 500 Gig. Hard Drive. But for some reason Windows tells me it is only 465 Gigs. Windows and all my other stuff besides GeoVision is using about 50 Gigs. So that leaves 415 Gigs for GeoVision. I would like to have maybe 15 Gig. on standby. Does that sound like enough for windows to work Properly? I use one computer for all. I am recording round the clock with four cameras. I am only getting about three and a half day's of video. The problem is. Geovision always uses all of my hard drive. Is there a way to put a limit on the amount of space Geovision uses? Thanks Dave

How do I limit Geovision on Hard Drive use?

I thought I read that MPEG4 was the best for playback. Dave

How do I limit Geovision on Hard Drive use?

GV800 Card using four cameras GeoMpeg4-ASP Recording Quality set at (5) 640x480 De-Interlace Panel Resolution 1280x1024 I was getting seven days before I changed the resolutuion from 320x240 to 640x480. I may have changed something else also. I see Acronis is $50 (not a good time for me to spend $$. I just put this computer together and spent lots of other money.) Is there any cheaper or freeware Partition programs out there. I use to have a free version of Partition Magic. Don't know what happened to it. Thanks for the help. Dave

    SATA Hard Drive Configuration Question

Just built a new system for my GeoVision 800. I'm real happy with it. Old system was a P4 with HT technology. Gigabyte board. 1000mb of ddr400 memory, Seagate 400 mb hard drive. New System Intel Duocore 6400 2.13GHZ 1067 Bus Speed Intel Board Dg965WH On bord Sound and Video 2GB of Corsair C4 6400 800mhz Memory. Ouch! $239. But I wont have to wonder if I should have bought the good stuff. Thermaltake 500 watt power supply- I like it. Shiny paint job and nice wires with strong protection covers on them. Plenty of extra wires. The guy at fry's recommended this one. Mini Typhoon Fan. Man this thing should keep it cool. Sea Gate Hard drive 500 Gig. SATA plug. Had to bye this because the new mother board only had one ribbon cord connector. The new HD has the SATA plug. Luckily they took my old 400Gig. back. That was hard to believe! Anyway I was shocked to see that I am getting 9 days of 4 cameras round the clock. Wow thats great. I was only getting three days with the old Hard drive. It makes no sense. Three times as long of storage time. Oh well I'm happy with it. I built this new computer because my other one was two slow. I use one computer for personel computing and my security system. So before programs were opening slow with the Geovision running in the background. Also it was skipping frames in fast forward replay. With the new system I can fast forward much better with out skipping frames so bad like before. Programs load fast. I can drag the cursor back and forth and it dose not skip frames. Even while lots of programs are running. Also Geovision and the playback program load very fast now. And the computer loads much faster. This system did the JOB. I will trade the processor in for the E6700 with 4 Mb cache if I get the chance again. I could have the other day for another $50. But I didn’t have the time to get down to Fry’s. One thing though with this new system. At night I have to turn my gain in the GeoVision software up now. Its real dark out there. But I didn't have to do that so much before. But before I had a good ATI AGP video card. And now I'm using the on board graphics. I will probably pick up an Ati PCI Exspress card soon. What the heck I already spent a fortune. They even got me for a new copy of Windows XP. I needed the full install. To get the Raid drivers to load. Take care all. Dave Here are some pics. Of the new system. Not bad for an amateur you think? This case has six fans. Do you think I should shut of all but two? One blowing in and one blowing out. And the Mini Typhoon for the processor. The case fans are noisy when they are all blowing. And they blow a lot of dust into the case. I might try and put some type of filter on the in blowing fan. Here is an Avi of the playback. It looks much better on my system. But it's better than not being able to show you anything. http://www.fototime.com/47A858D2EB22347/orig.avi Desk is kinda messy. That is my backup system up top. It is plugged into my monitor with an video jack. That is my new Samsung 940 MW Monitor Built in TV Tuner. Picture in a picture and input and output jacks like you can't beleive. The first one went out after 3 months. This is the new one they sent.

    SATA Hard Drive Configuration Question

Would the computer run faster with the SATA drivers. And If I press F3 and load the drivers. Should they be Raid drivers I load? or Some other SATA drivers? I do have a floppy Labeled Intel Matrix Storage Technology RAID DRIVER for Intel Desktop Boards. BLACK SATA CONNECTORS Version 6.2.1.1002 D62657-003 It came with my Motherboard. It seemed to me that the computer ran faster with the raid drivers. Dave
