  1. I am in the process of building a new house and have a similar budget and problem.

6 outdoor cameras with night vision and POE.

I use Mac and Windows device so they need to work with both

I use iOS and Droid devices so they need to work on both.

I also want to use web browser for viewing and playback.

I don't want to deal with an NVR so it needs SD support.

I decided on the Hikvision DS-2CD2532F. It will be released by the end of the year but it should run about $180 per camera from China which should put you at your $1k mark. I've been using Hikvision stuff without an NVR and have been very happy.

  2. I'm in the process of building a new home and I've been looking around for a while for the best solution for me. I tried a Brickcom camera and while the quality was great, I didn't like how you needed ActiveX for some of the settings as I use a Mac. So I started looking at the Hikvision stuff because it has a Mac plugin that works great. I also wanted a decentralized system (SD Card support) so that I didn't have to have an NVR. I bought one indoor model to test as a baby monitor (DS-2CD8464F-EIW) and one outdoor model (DS-2CD754FWD-EI). Both of these models had compromises. The DS-2CD8464F-EIW is only a 1.3MP camera and the DS-2CD754FWD-EI is just a little too big for my taste. The good news is that Hikvision has three new models (one available now and two available in August) that meet all my requirements.

    1. Mac compatible

    2. Outdoor Use

    3. Optional Wireless

    4. IR

    5. SD Card Support

    6. Small profile.

Check out the DS-2CD2732F-IS, DS-2CD2532F-ISW and DS-2CD2432F-IW. The DS-2CD2732F-IS is available now from AliExpress for $200.

  3. I'm dealing with the same issue. I purchased a DS-2CD8464F-EIW from DinoDirect to use a a baby monitor and it's awesome but they only sell in the Asian markets. It came with 4.0 but the 5.0 user guide lists the DS-2CD8464F-EIW as a supported model. I tried the TFTP process with the European firmware but I couldn't get it to upload. I emailed DinoDirect and I'm trying to get them to provide the 5.0 Chinese version firmware for the TI365 platform.

For those looking for the Chinese version of the 5.0 firmware for the Raptor platform, I think I found it on the Korean Hikvision site but I'm not sure since the DS-2CD8464F-EIW is on the TI365 platform.
