  1. Still new to this forum, so bear with me What brands of cameras do you guys find "most" reliable for the buck? We find that the term reliability is hard to place with any brand thus far. So far this is what we have experienced: Acti: Bought two bullets and they both had jerky video after a year of usage. Got turned off of Acti after that (not to mention, 18FPS is rather slow). Arecont: So far, nothing wrong after using some of their cams for a year, but imaging can use improvement (well, the newer WDR domes are MUCH better, using a couple right now and happy with them). Axis: Good imagining cameras at a high price of course. Years ago we used a dozen 216FD's, a couple 207's, and a couple 213's. They were pretty good stuff at the time. And now? They are all DEAD. No video, rainbow ****, you name it. And now since it's long discontinued, we lose the money Now we are trying out their newer stuff. We bought a brand new P3344-VE and after using it a couple days, it refuses to change the focus. (Send back since it still had warrenty). Also, a P3346-VE we are using at times will have extremely dark video that lasts for a minute (it occurs both during the day and the night). Will buy ONLY if it has warranty or if it's cheap enough. Pelco: Bought three used IXE-10LW's, so far holding well. Only thing is that they run so friggin' hot, they probably would die earlier than usual. But so far, nothing wrong after a year and a half of operation. Sony: Good so far, two years of using a couple DH-140's and all is well, nothing wrong with them. Previously, we used about six DF40's and DF70's for five years with no problems. Vivotek: So-so. Using two bullets (IP8362), one works fine but the other loses video every couple days. Not exactly enthusiastic about buying any more. Samsung: Not sure so far as we just bought one (SND-6084). So far, looking good, but it's only a week. So what about your experience with the brands? So far skimming over the forum, it seems like Arecont's quality is kinda gored here. (btw: I AM NOT PAID BY ANYONE TO POST THIS, I AM POSTING THIS BY MY OWN VOLITION).
  2. Hello, Sorry, just one more question We are thinking about acquiring two Arecont AV12186DN panoramic cameras (we have a large parking lot that we need to have some coverage). For those that have used it, is it better than the AV8185DN? Also, is the WDR enhancement really do anything? The only reason we ask is because after using a couple of previous Arecont cameras (we used the AV8185DN, AV3115DN, and AV5115DN), we were somewhat disappointed at the low-light capabilities and the light balancing (that's where WDR is supposedly swooping in to the rescue...). Thanks in advance.
  3. Kind of curious what's the difference between the 1347 and 1357. So far skimming over the specs, they seem to have similar specs. The only difference we see is that the light sensitivity for the 1357 is better. Is that all?
  4. Hello, We are currently using about 4 Vivotek IP8362 bullet cams and we are so far pretty satisfied with the performance (we have no problems so far about a year into operation). Now here's the kicker; we recently acquired a lot of 3 new Axis P1347-E cameras (we figured at a grand for all three was worth it). So far, this is the only thing we really know: IP8362: 2MP Short-range IR P1347-E 5MP P-Iris No IR Is there any other difference? Also, would you recommend that we swap the Vivoteks out for the Axis? The IR is not an issue; we use the color mode at night anyways (there's enough light apparently). is there a difference in quality between DC-Iris and P-Iris? Also, will the 5MP make a difference compared to the 2MP? Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi buellwinkle, To answer about our mixed up cameras, lets just say a 3K budget and eBay caused us to have a mix . We would have gone with the newer 8 or 10 core Intels (they're pretty cheap on eBay), but those mobos are 2.5K, which is a little bit out of our league. Thanks a bunch for the advice cutting down the stream FPS, it really helped. We were considering about other software options because we are planning to install another 6-10 cameras, so we are considering our options on what configuration we will end up with. For the rest of the responders: It looks like Exacq and Avigilon is pretty frequently mentioned here, we will take a look at those two providers. Anyways, thanks to all that responded so far. If there are any other recommendations, feel free to do so.
  6. Hi there, We are currently using Luxriot Enterprise to handle the viewing and recording of video. All streams are H.264 (except for the 2MP at 15FPS), 5 are 1MP @ 30FPS, 2 are 2MP @ 15FPS, 5 are 2MP @30FPS, 2 are 3MP @ 21FPS, and 2 are 5MP @14FPS. Originally, we used a regular computer with a quadcore 2GHZ processor (Intel I3 series) and 4GB of RAM (obviously that is woefully inadequate, but hey, I'm just a noob ) After the system literally crashed every 5 minutes, we decided to jump to the server segment and picked up an Intel X5680 and put 32GB of RAM into the baby. Now it runs blazing fast (and good images of course), but we are wondering if there are any other solutions that may be less CPU intensive to use. At this point, we are somewhat satisfied with Luxriot, but are there any other better options? Thanks. If someone is wondering, we are currently using the following cameras (I know it's a hodgepodge) 2 Acti TCM-1111 1 Arecont AV3115 1 Arecont AV3255AM 2 Arecont AV5255AMIR 1 Sony DH220 2 Sony DH140 1 Sony ER550 4 Pelco IXE20DN 1 Iqeye 702 1 Vivotek IP7361
  7. Hi there, Does anyone know if Geovision Cameras are compatible with Luxriot?
