  1. On the axis budget 206 and 207 series it was easy to change the lens. You could simply unscrew the lens and screw in another lens. Easy way to change the field of view to more wide angle or tele. The M12 lenses are widely available everywhere in all sorts and kinds and from super wide to super tele. The quality of cheap aftermarket lenses was often even better than the original lens. Even increasing night-vision capabilities was easy.

The successor is the M10XX series camera's which has nice quality megapixel versions for a very decent price. Bummer is they are sold with one lens. Usability greatly increases when that lens can be exchanged.

The camera has a lens that can be unscrewed by turning the silver coloured plastic adapter and lens (it is made for it, that is the adjustable focus function).

When unscrewed you can see the M12 lens has its threads on the outside as usual. The camera now has its threads also on the outside.

A yellow metal ring is incorporated in the plastic adapter. It inverts the outside threads of the M12 lens to inside threads.

The problem is how to separate the M12 lens from the adapter. Force did not seem tot help getting the M12 lens and the adapter apart, it seems firmly glued or something similar.

Another option is getting another adapter. But what size is the camera thread and where to find one? Any help is appreciated.

  2. What IP systems are you using that are not stable?
Coax is a seperate system. IP tends to be integrated with other (data / voice) communication. If changes to the IP system are made the CCTV is temporarily out or problems can arise from changes made because of changes or additions in data or voip connections. Multipurpose use of IP can lead to timing or capacity issues. I witness that sometimes an IP camera connection can get disconnected, only to reconnect seconds or minutes later.

If you have a separate system to collect and store CCTV that can be an advantage.

  3. ip, way more options. SDI is very limited and more expensive. Unless you have problems running new Ethernet cable, go with ip.
I agree with this but regarding stability it always amazes me how stable and trouble-free analog runs in use compared to IP.

  4. I am confused about if you want to prevent theft or want to have proof of theft when your horse is long gone?

When using camera's you will want some motion detection with early notice if someone approaches your horse in a inappropriate way. Like a notification of opening a fence with quality footage.

If you cannot position camera's the right way a fence alarm might be the way to go. Camera's then will only be complementary.

I am sorry if this answer disappoints you but first make sure you are going the right way before investing.

  5. The M1011 is said to be non-adjustable so could be completely glued.

I do not know about the M1031W

The M1014 is advertized as focus adjustable so the aluminium ring should be rotatable (screwable). They do not say this to be only true since some change so I suspect all M1014 models to be focus adjustable.

It still leaves the question what should be the best way to seperate the silver coloured plastic part from the board lens which would enable us to exchange the standard lens for any standard M12 size lens.

  6. When you put your trash to the curb, you give up implied ownership of that material. Not only is it fair game, but it can be gone through for evidence collecting in a police investigation.

In most jurisdictions that is dead wrong for several reasons.

Legally you do not give up ownership by putting trash on the curb, you transfer ownership to another party (hired directly or indirectly by you to pick it up).

If trash spills out of the bin before it is picked up you can be held responsible and liable.

Third thing to concider is that privacy laws forbid going through someones trash.

Police can go through EVERYTHING when evidence collecting in an investigation, for wich they need varying degrees of reasonable suspicion up to signed warrants or court orders to do so. They can not go through it "for fun" or just to check you out.

  7. The minds of thieves move in mysterious ways but as a company or employee he should known that this causes integrity and trust issues with his client if he does it without telling him.

You cannot be laughed out of court for this. If a improfessional judge laughs you out of court for this, ask for a new judge right at that instant. A judge needs to apply the law and all that can happen is that he finds the suspect guilty but does not impose a sentence because of the storey and circumstances the defendant gives the judge.

  8. Even the ones with adjustable focus present a hurdle.

The boad lens is fixed to a aluminium ring. It is this aluminium ring that screws into the Axis camera. The aluminium ring is used to adjust the focus. So an adapter is needed to use other lenses.

1 Does anyone know how the lens is connected to the aluminium ring and how to get them apart without damaging anything? Is it glued, mecanically crimped, or ....

2 Or does anyone know where the spare aluminium rings can be bought?

  9. I have the Axis P3344 & P1344 working with our IWH3216 but both of those models are supported by Aver. I did have to revert the cameras back to the supported firmware version to work properly, the connection was not stable with Axis's newer firmware.

Thanks for the answer. Do you have a stable connection when connecting via onvif or did you never try?

I bought a one megapixel M10 series camera to try it out.

The ONVIF works including motion detection but it gives a unstable connection. Within a minute it gives a connection loss which stays that way.

The only M10 series camera under axis in the firmware is a M1011 camera and when I configure it as such it seems to work except there is no in-camera motion detection which is something I need.

Aver customer support does not react.

I found in the firmware explanations that my camera supports 6. ONVIF Profile S conformance

The ONVIF Profile S replaces the ONVIF Version 1.02.

I do not know if this new ONVIF standard is the issue.

Onvif is supposed to be the new universal communication standard but does it work with aver?

  10. Hi Tomcctv,

I am happy to discuss this but I do not think I am missing anything.

I agree that when CCTV is installed quality is important and it is often below standard because of using wrong equipment or not instaling it the right way. Relying on something that does not deliver can be the worst thing.

On the other hand it must not be overstated because CCTV evidence is not a requirement and nobody will be convicted by CCTV footage without other evidence. After witnessing yourself over hundred strong cases of police refusing to do anything I think you would rethink your statement.

  11. Wow, back in May i had about $3500 worth of musical equipment and other things stolen out of my garage. I now have cameras on the side of the garage entering and one INSIDE the garage as well. Its true the cops don't want to do ANYTHING in these types of cases. I even had these two suspects try and sell a few things to a music store. The owner of the store got the license plate number of the guys trying to sell my equipment. I gave it to the cops thinking here we go.! I got them a lead.. Cops did nothing from what i can tell, they dont care
Sadly that is a standard story.

Some victims go the way of installing CCTV equipment in the hope that will help, only to find out te next time that that is not the problem.

The standard answer is to write a letter to ask for the names of the officers involved in the case, what is done with the information provided, the status and progress of the case. At the same time (or you can wait for an answer) write another letter to file a formal complaint. After that sometimes it is necessary to call the officers connected with the case every week to inquire into the progress. If you have a licence plate you can ask a PI to compile a court case and submit it to the proscecuter directly, bypassing the police.

  12. Is the gluing of the lens defined by having adjustable focus? Is your model a M1011 or M1054 wich has no adjustable focus?

    M1004-W adjustable focus

    M1013 adjustable focus

    M1014 adjustable focus

    M1011-W - -

    M1033-W adjustable focus

    M1034-W adjustable focus

    M1054 - -

I like to use these cams in places with little space. A camcorder lens will put on thickness, changing the lens will not.
