  1. Yes, you can do this. Hook up your cameras to a POE switch and from the POE switch, run a cable to the Router. I'm assuming your router has a built-in switch you can plug in a network cable from the attic switch and the NVR itself.

    1. Make sure the attic switch will support POE and that it has enough power to power X number of cameras.

    2. Make sure sure your network can handle all the network traffic your cameras will generate. I saw my network come to a halt when I tried this setup. I had to upgrade my network equipment to solve the issue.

    3. Lastly, you didn't mention anything about noise but I should let you know that my Hik NVR isn't silent. Not loud but it isn't silent. And though I can deal with the sound, others are very sensitive to noise and can't stand a little fan noise. You might want to factor that into your plans.

  2. Howdy,

I'm sure there are nine great posts on this, but my quick search didn't reveal exactly what I'm looking for. I own the Swann NVR. I have all cams connected via NVR, and view frequently via mobile app.

My question is - If I know the address of each cam, can I access a cam via a browser or Safari on my iPhone while the cam is still connected to the POE in the NVR? Would I not enter something like http://192.xxx.x.x:port# ?

If not, would I need to bypass the connection to the NVR and simply connect the cam directly to my router?

    Thx much,

    Jim

I don't know about the Swann NVR but most have their own built-in switch that looks something like 10.x.x.x. In that scenario, you probably can't ping or get to any of the camera's directly. You might have to tell the built-in switch to use the 192.168.1.x subnet. Be warned though, this might cause the camera's to overwhelm your network.

The way most people get direct access to camera's attached to the NVR is by plugging in a network cable directly into one of the ports on the back of the NVR and the other end on the computer. This will allow the computer to get an IP from the NVR's switch.

That being said, I don't know if you can view the camera's on your iphone. Most of the IP camera's I've come across install a web component necessary for viewing. I don't know if the web component will work in a mobile browser. You will be better off using an APP to achieve the same goal.

  3. TCP will try to retransmit the data if there's an error. UDP is connectionless and will not try to recover the lost data for you.

I owned the R7000 for a short while and I seem to remember it having a nice QOS feature built in. Have you tried that yet? I own Hikvision cameras and NVR so I don't know what the Swann interface looks like but are you viewing the substream on your Iphone or the main stream?

  4. There's no snapshot option under the camera menu but I was able to get it working with your first set of instructions. The images it sends to my email account are low quality. Do you know if there's a setting to increase the resolution of the snapshot?

I have the same Hikvision nvr. on main menu >recording configuration>record quality>substream. there you will find the different configurations.

if i'm not mistaken the email pictures are sent substream, I believe its only 480. I find the pictures I get of events aren't bad at all, after all i'm talking about a 4 inch screen on my phone.

if nothing else you can find this info in your owners manual. if you don't have one just go to Hikvision enter your model # you should be able to download it there.

hope this helps, I too was getting low quality snapshots until changed the settings.

Beerguy01, can you confirm what firmware version you have on both your camera and NVR? I realized that MindTwist has a different NVR than mine. As such, the firmware he has isn't available for my device.

I've downgraded the firmware on my NVR but that didn't solve the problem. I've confirmed that no matter what resolution I set the substream, it still uses the lowest setting for the snapshot. I've tried to modify the setting on the NVR (web), NVR (TV), and camera (web) interfaces without any luck.

I also did a factory reset on both the NVR and camera. That didn't fix the problem. I will be calling Hikvision tonight to see what they have to say but if I can get the firmware version you're running on both devices, I'll give it a try before calling support.

    Thanks

  5. Can you do me a big favor and check the firmware version you're currently running on your device? I upgraded my firmware as soon as I received the NVR but it looks like I might have to go back to an older version.

    Firmware version V2.3.3 build 130603

    Encoding verison V1.0 build 130507

My firmware is V2.3.7. Is V2.3.3 pretty stable? If so, I'll be downgrading tonight.

I do have it there... I see that mine are by default at 704x576 (which is the substream on my cameras), but I also have the option "Auto". No idea on what "Auto" does.

Well, you have the proof right there in your picture. Unfortunately, I don't get a snapshot menu under camera settings. This is exactly what I was looking for, a place to change the snapshot settings.

    Thanks for the screenshot.

I am familiar with the sub and main streams and I've configured them the way I want them but I don't think the snapshots are using the settings in the sub stream. The images I'm getting in my email are 352x288 and 96dpi. My sub streams are set at 704*480. I'm looking at these images on my PC so they do look very small. Secondly, I know you mentioned the user manual. However, the manual I have has zero mention about snapshots. I searched and glanced through the 194 page document but there was nothing in there about snapshots.

  8. Hi,

I recently purchased the DS-7608NI-SE/8P to pair with my 4 Hik cameras. The setup seems straight forward but I can't seem to find one feature in the settings.

I want to setup the NVR to take a snapshot when motion is detected and email or ftp it to me. Is this possible? I believe the cameras themselves can do this but I rather manage all settings directly from the NVR; part of the reason why I decided to get a Hik NVR was to take advantage of plug-n-play.

  9. I have a 6 month old QC8080 for sale. It's in great condition with very few minor scratches. Comes with all the accessories but I don't have the original box.

Asking $350 but the price is negotiable.

  10. Hello everyone. I have lurked on this site for quite a while. Based on the info I learned on this site I purchased the QSee QC808 and 4 720P bullet cameras.

    http://www.samsclub.com/sams/8-ch-4-cam-nvr-sys-4-hd-720p-ip-bul/prod9130159.ip

I also have 2 PTZ cameras that I would like to connect to the NVR. The problem is, I do not know how to connect/configure more than 4 cameras.

    1. Panasonic BB-HCM580A (non PoE PTZ IP camera)

    2. Toshiba IK-WB15A (PoE PTZ IP camera)

    My questions are?

    1. Do I need to buy a 8 port PoE switch, connect all cameras (including QSee bullet cams) to the switch, connect switch to one of the PoE ports on the QC808, and configure all cameras manually? If so, can you provide more detailed instructions?

    2. Will the QC808 allow me to control both PTZ cameras? If so, can you provide instructions on how to accomplish this goal?

    3. If you had this equipment, would you set it up another way? For example, would you set the QSee equipment up as Plug N' Play, and use other hardware/software to control and record the PTZ cameras? I am open to options that are easy to understand.

SPECIAL NOTE: It would be nice to remotely view/control the PTZ cameras but it is NOT an absolute necessity.

I hope I can get this figured out (with your help, of course!). If it is too hard for me to understand I was wondering if I should sell the two PTZ cameras in order to finance a more simple system that I can understand.

Thank you for your time and help

    jonblack

I own this QSee NVR but I don't have any PTZ cameras so I can't be of much help but I know the NVR supports PTZ. It didn't seem too complicated to setup last time I read the manual.

Yes, you can control the PTZ cameras remotely from a smartphone or computer. I'm sure there will be some delay due to bandwidth limits.

  11. I wanted to bump this thread and see if anyone can help me with the basics of installing more than 4 cameras on an NVR with only 4 PoE ports?

    Thank you

    jonblack

You need a POE switch to connect the extra cameras. Then from the camera settings on the QSee NVR, you'll do a search or manually add the IP's to the list.

A cheap $50 switch should do.

  12. I had the same exact issue on my dome (also the Chinese version) but I'm not sure what I did to correct it. A couple of things I've done since purchasing the camera; I've updated the firmware and at some point, restored to factory defaults.

I also thought it could be the sun beating on the camera and I haven't ruled that out yet since it's Fall time and not as hot.

I haven't seen the flickering in about 2 weeks.

  13. Do you have the substream option available? Without it, you may have issues getting any video appear in the smartphone app.

I had that option disappear and had to do a couple of things to get it back. See this thread for more info-> http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=38038

I posted in that thread and my substream has returned and all works great except for the video feed. The iPhone app works great and I use it all the time.

My only running issue is that I am unable to view the video feed while outside my home network from within a browser. I can connect to the NVR itself and make changes and do everything except see the video in the window.

That's like, a huge issue. What have you tried to problem solve that? What browser and all? Are you all set up correctly with DDNS?

Here is my info from another thread I started. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=38020

I don't use DDNS as I have a static IP that changes maybe once a year.

I have tried Chrome and IE.

I think your issue might have to do with browser config instead of network config. What version of IE do you have on the computer that can't view the video stream? Have you modified the Active X settings in IE? Since you can check and change settings just fine in the browser, I doubt that your issue has anything to do with ports.

  14. thats what i thought too before, but after i adjusted the motion in the camera menu itself, now my nvr recording motion just fine.

You are right. My Q-See would not detect motion even though I followed the instructions on how to set the motion detection feature. After enabling motion detection on the actual camera and setting the region on the camera itself (via POE), my NVR was then able to detect motion when I plugged the cameras directly into the Q-See.

Basically had to setup motion detection on both the Camera and the NVR for it to work. Doing it only on the NVR didn't work. I was hoping this would be the case for snapshots as well but nope, that didn't work. Only way I can get snapshot emailed to me is by having the camera (Hikvision) directly connected to my Network (via POE) and configuring snapshots on the camera themselves. When I attach the cameras back to the NVR, the snapshot feature stops working.

  15. Let me share a link with you.

    http://computer.howstuffworks.com/lan-switch13.htm

I still believe your problem is related to a loop in the network which is causing a broadcast storm. Let me ask you this. What other network configurations did you setup (email, nas, ftp, etc) on the cameras? Maybe one of those configurations are trying to contact a node that's not known by the switch, server, and router causing them to flood the network until it comes to a screeching halt.

As previously suggested, get rid of the default gateway setting on the cameras. That will stop all the unnecessary traffic from making it to the router.

  16. Secondly, I don't know how weird this is. My hikvision is 16 channel but only 8 physical RJ45 ports are available. In the camera setup the remaining 8 are inactive so I supposed those are to be added via a network switch?

My Hikvision is an 8 Channel NVR but it only has 4 RJ45 ports on the back. The other 4 channels can be added remotely (local network or WAN). So, that will mean that you can physically attach 8 POE cameras and 8 remote cameras. What's the model number of the NVR?

  17. Am having a serious problem. Can I actually connect my ip cameras directly to a network switch then run it(the switch) to the NVR?

If yes, how do I call the cameras up on the NVR?

You can connect your cameras to a POE switch or a switch without POE but you would need a secondary source of power for the cameras. After that's done, you can go to the NVR and do a "Device Search", at least that's how it works on my Q-See. After the search detects the cameras, I can then add them to the NVR.

I'm not sure what the Hikvision interface looks like.
