Shock, in that video, where is the cat5 connector? Is it just strapped to the pole? It's hard to tell how you ran the wire right at the camera if it's bolted right to the pole mount.
  3. Holy cow, 3k for an NVR? Would you like to buy a bridge I'm selling?

What are you going to do with the wires with that pole mount? It seems like it's a flat piece of metal and the wire goes through it, but how does it get sealed?
  5. Use a box, feed the cat5 from the botom of the box. Water cannot travel upward.
  6. Does the DVR have a ddns service? Which DVR are you using?
  7. What brand systems are you installing? Besides residential and commercial, what other types are there? LOL
  8. I just ripped out an analog system in a warehouse in NJ. The cameras were all effio 700 TVL eyeball cameras well focused and placed. He had an 8 channel DVR and a 4 channel DVR for 12 cameras. They were both speco dvr's. The reason he upgraded was because I did his house in NY with IP and he was absolutely amazed. The guy had the money to upgrade to IP even though he had a perfectly fine analog system. I guess lucky for me, cause that meant two IP jobs within 2 weeks, lol.
  9. Where is the wire coming from? If it's coming from inside the wall, stick the pigtail in the wall and silicone around the base of the camera. If the wire is exposed on the outside of the wall, mount an outdoor box next to the camera, make a hole on the bottom of the box, stick the cat5 into the box from the bottom hole, than loop the pigtail down and put the camera connector inside the box from the same hole and connect the cat5 to the connector inside the box. Make sure there are no holes in the back of the box, get a box with ears outside the box so you can screw it to the wall. With only one hole on the bottom of the box, water will not get in it because water does not travel upwards. If you want, you can still silicone the hole, but no need to. Also, make sure you install the gasket when you put the cover on the box.
  10. My customer called me tonight and told me to log into his cameras. So I logged in and saw this very cool shot. I've seen spider webs before, but this is crazy! LOL!

Live video from end of driveway

I've seen mirrors used for driveway blindspots, or you can just sell your house and move?

Now that is a spider web! :-)

WOW! Is that for real? Shouldn't they have contacted me to use my video???
  13. If you notice, the guys that are voting for analog are guys that do not know how to install IP systems. Or they have tried it once and was not successful. If you know how to install them, they are extremely easy. One guy even said you need a POE switch. Well, do analog cameras need power supplies or do they get power from the heavens up above? One guy said you need an expensive NVR. Well, why don't you call your distributor and as them how much a 16 channel DVR costs than ask how much a 16 channel NVR. I know I can buy a 16 channel NVR for less than a DVR! And lastly, what does it matter between analog or IP if you can get to your customer within 2 hours of when they called? Why would you even bring that up?
  14. On this subject, I say to each their own. I've installed analog systems that look amazing and have 'done it's job'. But ever since I've been installing IP, every reaction I get is WOW. And that person who said WOW has told all of their friends and my phone has been off the hook. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I've worked full time for a few companies in the past 25 years. I install burg systems and cctv systems for the company I work for. Every company I work for installs analog. We usually do a full blown cctv system every 2-4 weeks. I personally started installing IP systems alittle over a year now on my weekends. Since I have started, I have done at least one job per weekend for a year now. Some weekends I've done a job on saturday and one on sunday. I'd say that this WOW factor has a nice ripple affect compared to something that has just 'done the job'. But like I said, to each their own. If your happy with analog, and you get a lot of work out of it, more power to you. Installing analog systems has never gotten me as many jobs as IP systems has. And yes, I agree that analog is easier to install, easier to maintain, etc. But knock on wood, so far, I have not once had any issues with any of the IP systems I've installed so far. The only issues that has occurred are typical things that would have happened to an analog system as well, such as the home owner changing their ISP, or they had construction to their house and need a camera moved.

  16. I am seeing analog cameras even more expensive than IP cameras these days. Between Dahua and HIKvision, it's hard to give a reason to go with analog. If you don't want an IP system to bog down your internet, than don't put it on the network. Just give everything a static, and your set. With resolution limits on analog, I just don't see a reason for it any longer. As for Tom's comment, well, Tube TV's have been around for decades and have done the job, but if you go to the TV store, are you buying a flat screen or a tube TV? Flip phones with no screen have done the job for years, would you purchase a flip phone as of today? Cars with Carburators have done the job for years, but would you buy one or one with fuel injection today? Should I go on?

    License Plate cam suggestions

Hopefully, if he clicks view new posts, he'll run into this topic? Anyway, I'm not necesarily looking for an IP license plate camera. I don't mind using analog to a dvr and for the other cameras using IP with an NVR and linking the two. I stopped by my local distributor today and looked at an LPR that he sells for about 350 bucks. It was a box camera in a housing on a swivel bracket. It had IR's but they looked different than other IR cameras. It had a crazy amount of settings in the OSD. I'm hoping to find sort of a plug and play LPR so I don't have to wait till night time to configure it.

    License Plate cam suggestions

I have a customer who has a little hut type building and the cars go passed it to enter and leave the gated community. They want two license plate cameras on the entrance part to show the front plate and rear plate as the car passes to enter. They also want to be able to see clearly the person inside the car. It's a bit of a ride, so I'm trying to write up an estimate without driving there, believe it or not, lol. Anway, does anyone have any good luck with any reasonably priced LPR cameras? I know Bosch has some crazy ones that are very expensive, but I'm not looking for long range. I was actually thinking of two analog Digital Watchdog LPR's, and two 3mp cameras one for the exit and one for viewing the driver. I would use an NVR and put the DW's on a DVR and link the two together. Any ideas or suggestions? If you've installed with success any LPR's, let me know the make and model. I appreciate it.

I haven't purchased from them for a while, but all my past dealings were very positive. They reply to emails pretty much 24/7, they have sent me free items to test out, they give discounts for larger orders, etc. Maybe you just got a bad salesgirl?
  20. What systems are you installing? I'm in Queens.

is this a true Dahua DVR?

That is a Dahua, but spend alittle more for the full D1, not the 2cif.
  22. As soon as this 20x gets installed and paid for, I'm ordering the 30x 2mp Dahua. That should be some fun to play around with.
  23. Can someone explain to me why Dahua is telling these distributors NOT to sell to the US? Does money not make the world go around?
