  1. Hey everyone, I moved to Genius Vision NVR from iSPY today. Software itself is good, but so far I'm having hard time making this thing do what I want Before I go anywhere further: I Switched because I need a free software that works across different vendors and supports hardware motion triggers. iSpy also had some stability issues. If there are other solutions, I'll be happy to hear them (Milestone is no go, I keep 6 months worth of recordings) Anyway, my issue is - this thing by default just wants to record everything. I disabled all the triggers I can find, but every time there is a video loss - it records. Anyone knows how to disable this stupid thing? All I'm after, is to record on motion detection from cameras themselves (HIKVision does a great job at that and others are decent enough). Nothing else. Yet after running it for 2 hours I ended up with 1.3Gb file.... seriously?
  2. Assuming I'll be using software such as Milestone will i3 with 4gb suffice? I'm guessing I can map a drive on the NVR box to my laptop to watch recordings?
  3. Just want to say thank you for helping me figure out the cameras already! Now I'm going to build NVR system to do the recording on those cameras. It looks like I'll be totaling around 10mp across all cameras. What kind of system specs are required? CPU wise? Memory? 500Gb-1Tb drive should be enough to record a month worth? Any help is appreciated.
  4. I would probably prefer a dome, but could not find one for sale anywhere? The first camera I found, but can't find 2nd part. Are suggested cameras better than DS-2CD3332-I? I hear a lot of positive reviews on this. Btw, will this do wide angle? I know 2.8mm is wide, but some places say 90 degrees, while others say 120-140. I'd like it to be a very wide coverage.
  5. Alright, that sounds good. I appreciate all the comments. What do you recommend for the overview cameras? I'll still have 2 of them where red Xs are and then put bullets for plates and face. Any good 3mp camera recommendations for the overview? Something that has good night view as well? Maybe 50'?
  6. Thanks for replies guys. So I could potentially do a simple 2mp camera where front X is just to capture overall picture and then put a zoomed in camera where green X is to capture plates on the driveway, correct? I will measure the distance between front of the house and road to see how far I need to read moving plates when I get home. (Update: it's about 50-55 feet) But to be able to read them - do you suggest 2 cameras facing each way of the road on each corner of the house? Or can I get away with 1 camera somewhere? I really would like to pull this off with 3-4 cameras, if at all possible.
  7. Hello everyone, Looking for a couple cameras that are wide angle, maybe around 2.8mm but with 5mp resolution. So far 3mp seems like is not good enough. Trying to have a camera on front of the house so I can read plates that pass by on the road or if someone parks on the driveway (will on be opposite side of the house from camera, hence wide lens). By looking at 3mp pics - plates across the street are blurry (for example - http://www.networkcameracritic.com/Hikvision/Hikvision%20DS-2CD2132-I%20day2.jpg - can't read) So I'm hoping 5mp would solve this? Unless someone can suggest an alternative to a problem? Had a brake in couple weeks ago (a lot of traffic goes by) so this would be very helpful. Thanks Update: I attached a picture. The idea was to use 2 cameras where red Xs are. You can see why I wanted wide angle lens on the front - so it can cover everything. So I wanted front cam - to be able to pick up plates of the vehicles. Or is it better to put a 3rd camera where green X is? And get not wide angle on the other front X? For this coverage I'd like to stay under $800.
  8. Can someone suggest a nice NVR system for Windows that would do recording over ONVIF and/or web with motion detection, but with defined zones that move? (for PTZ cameras) To clarify, I have NVR that came with cameras, it works, as many others. You can have the thing cruise to pre-programmed positions every N seconds. It's all nice, except the area of motion detection is useless, because it's the same on every position, plus movement of cameras causes it recognize motion. I'm looking for something where I can say: - Position A, motion detection zone/grid such and such, stay for 1 minute, then move to B - Position B, motion detection perimeter is different from A, stay for 30 seconds. move to C - Position C, motion detection area is different again, stay for 10 seconds, move to ETC Is there any NVR software that can pull this off? Thanks for any suggestions

    Color loss

Just update, in case someone runs into similar situation. I have been talking to WAPA. Apparently it's their main module some has built into a different dome. I guess they sell a lot of their components OEM. WAPA has been extremely helpful, in fact I don't recall dealing with another Chinese manufacturer as kind as there guys were. Spent hours on emails, then remote connected to me, even got their senior tech on the line during a weekend! Anyway, nothing was working, picture was still messed up. Until that tech said - beat the crap out of it LOL At first I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't. He suggested IR cut filter got stuck and hitting it real hard will get to open back up. I was hesitant to do, but I've tried. After couple dozens of hits, I finally whacked it hard LOL guess what - it worked! Picture is back to normal

    Color loss

There is no hope for repair/replacement. They will not communicate. I guess I could go directly to WAPA, but since I bought from a re-seller as OEM, I doubt they would help. IR LEDs are off when it's like this. So I doubt it's stuck in night vision mode. I've looked over SDK API, there is no option to trigger night vision. So it seems to be hardware switch operable right at the camera. I suppose taking it apart and looking at the wires is the only option I have. Thanks

    Color loss

I looked at the camera up close, seems to be dry inside. Plus it's almost like it just doesn't recognize some colors. Grass is gray/brown instead of green, for example. Day/Night mode is auto. I have not found a way to change that I wish I could temporary turn of IR, but have no idea how. Here are the pics, when it worked properly, and after.
  12. You can always settle for 720p if you want to stay with that price range.
  13. Hello everyone, I've purchased an outdoor PTZ directly from China manufacturer. It's a 720p 18x zoom camera. First couple days it worked ok, with all colors properly appearing. On third day some of the colors are gone and image seems to be more blurry than originally. Camera resets/refocuses when bright lights hit the lens (i.e. sun or headlights from a vehicle). Every time very bright light hits it - it turns pink and then back to normal. Well, on 3rd day, of the times it went back into day mode from night - picture went completely pink. At that time it was set for Outdoor mode. Setting it to Auto - removed pink, but some colors are gone as I described above. I've reset the camera, the software, about everything there is to reset. Manufacturer is no help. They are just ignoring me. (I actually have paypal claim against them, but that's a different story) Did anyone experience this? Is it permanently broken? After some digging I found that camera is made by WAPA and company I bought it from are just little reseller group of people in China. Any help is greatly appreciated! PS: Forgot to mention, it's an IP camera. Not sure if that matters, but anyway
