  1. When exporting video using Avigilon VMS ACC, native files are small when compared to AVI files. Sample Video: 13 minute, 48 second 1280 x 960 Quality=High Full frame rate 30fps Native (.AVE) = 177MB AVI (VC-1 Window Media Video encoder) = 594MB AVI (no encoder) = 42.6GB When submitting police evidence, I supply both Avigilon native file with ACC Player (zoom is nice) and AVI file (VC-1 Window Media Video encoder) When doing long time-lapse videos, I export to AVI file (VC-1 Window Media Video encoder) and stitch the AVI's with QuickTime Pro.

    Lens information

A larger lens will work fine on a smaller sensor. A larger lens will provide better overall image than a smaller lens. The outer edges will be better focused and less barrel distortion as well. The angle of view is slightly reduced. The cost is higher...

    Telephoto lens add-on?

The specs show that the camera lens is CS mount. Good luck on getting a larger/wider/longer vari-focal lens into the bullet. You might be able to fit a fixed 16mm or 25mm lens though. Hopefully you don't need to remove/sacrifice the IR led ring assembly to make things fit...

    Advice on CCTV Tester

The small 2.8"/2.5" screen will make camera lens focus adjustments difficult. A larger screen is highly recommended. Currently I use a 5.6" test monitor. I have used portable dvd players and small portable tv with built-in lithium battery as well.

  8. IR illuminator intensity and positioning is very important when capturing a licence plate. Camera, lens, FOV, and shutter speed are equally important factors as well. If you want to capture plates consistently and reliably in day or night, use a Bosch LPR camera. They have been in the LPR business for years. Two great entry level LPR cameras. These are analog cameras, so a separate encoder is required for IP connection. Bosch REG-X-816-XE approx. $600 http://resource.boschsecurity.com/documents/Data_sheet_enUS_1732568587.pdf Bosch VLR-4075-V521 approx. $500 http://resource.boschsecurity.com/documents/VLR_2075_Data_sheet_enUS_11271030539.pdf A choking point is required to slow the vehicle to 50mph or less. The LPR camera should be mounted no more than 5 feet above the ground (lower the better), face the licence plate directly, and be around 20 feet away. You will also still require a separate colour overview camera to capture other details such as make, model, color etc. Do a search on this forum "LPR" or "plate" for tons of feedback and reading on the topic.
  9. Like all camera manufactures, the 1.3MP/720P sensor provides the best low light image. The Axis Q1602 with Lightfinder and Avigilon 1.3MP LightCatcher are two great low light cameras. http://www.axis.com/products/cam_q1602/index.htm http://avigilon.com/products/video-surveillance/cameras/hd-cameras/h-264-hd-cameras/1-3-mp-h-264-lightcatcher/ The Arecont AV3135 has a nice sensor, but not too many lens that fit.. The Arecont AV5115 is not a low light camera. The improvement that pixel binning provides is marginal at best.

    FU POE

+1 thewireguys recommendation. Not too many cameras need POE+. Use single POE+ injector for your POE+ camera. Use managed/unmanaged POE switch for your other POE cameras. I was referring to the Cisco SG300-20 (SRW2016-K9-NA) 20-port Gigabit Managed Switch: $324. This switch no POE, no POE+. Any switch can be hacked. Depends on how much you value your time... In my past life, I was a network consultant for many large firms over 25+ years. I have been using Cisco products for over 10 years. Netgear has always been considered low end.

I stay away from all things Netjunk/Netgear. I walked into a retail computer supplier a couple of years ago and saw thousands of refurbished Netgear switches for sale. The Cisco switches are not the most quiet units but I have found them very reliable.
  13. Any camera will not see too much under murky water. A 1.3MP camera will perform better in low light conditions. Use quality silicon fusing tape over quality heat shrink to seal the connectors/connections. http://www.rescuetape.com/

    150 Cameras System

If you want a robust network, capable to handle additional cameras, and capable to handle additional cameras with more resolution in the future, stick to proven technologies that can handle the traffic and bandwidth. SD card/edge based storage is not reliable and is not recommended for use as primary storage medium for images in large installations. Reliable and dependable Wifi equipment requires a significant investment and budget. How well does that $75 exterior camera handle bright sunlight? Low Light? Extreme heat/humity? Vandals?

    No tv! Still record?

A DVR has a built in hard drive to record images from your camera. A tv/monitor does not need to be connected to the DVR in order to record. A tv/monitor will need to be connected to dvr to view the cameras, view recordings, and to change programming such as recording schedule, date, etc. You will need to provide some access to the dvr's front panel, IR remote control sensor, and some ventilation holes for cooling. If access is difficult, use a IR extender/repeater for the IR remote control.

    Violating building code?

Building codes vary slightly from region/jurisdiction/residential/commercial. Building codes generally don't change very often. Building code deals primary with the building structure and safety. Electric code deals with any electric wiring, high voltage mains/low voltage. When installing CCTV, building code and electric code must be maintained. Some rules.. Do not drill large holes in load bearing beams. Do not drill large holes in exterior walls. Use proper anchors when mounting heavy cameras. Do not mix low voltage wiring with mains wiring. If you do not compromise the structural integrity/safety of the building, or modify the existing mains wiring, your building inspector/insurance agent won't issue a infraction notice to comply with...

Bosch Dinion IP ultra 8000 mp http://resource.boschsecurity.com/documents/NBN_80122_Data_sheet_enUS_14878683787.pdf I don't expect 4K cameras to be in the $500 price range for at least 2 years. Camera manufactures will need to recoup research and development costs. VMS software and NVR support will need to catch up before 4K cameras sell in volume. Also, 4K lens will be very very very very expensive!!!

Some vari-focal lens have difficulty maintaining optical correction throughout the zoom range. As a result, focus can suffer at the extreme ends of near and far. Going with a larger vari-focal lens should help but keep in mind that your fov will be reduced. For low light, a day/night ir corrected lens with f1.0 or f1.2 is recommended. Computar, Fujinon and Tamron are better brands.
