  1. Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean when you say drill through the box….are the wires exposed in your suggestion? It is a hollow tube gooseneck that we can run the cables directly through to the Panasonic dome. As far as the concrete pole its new construction.

    Panasonic WV-CW484

Just wondering what anyone thinks of the Panasonic WV-CW484 Fixed vandal outdoor dome. We have had great success with them but they are pricey. Any recommendations for other cameras with roughly the same specs? Thank you.
  3. Parking lot application. We will be connecting a Panasonic fixed dome camera to a Panasonic gooseneck mount and mounting that to a concrete light pole. This way all wires are hidden up the pole and into the camera...very clean. Question is has anyone ran any Siamese or any video cable INSIDE a light pole? Are there major interference issues? I know we could run conduit up the side but then we have an issue with drilling an entrance hole into a perfectly sealed gooseneck. Thanks for your response.

    Monitors CRT vs LCD

Fully understand that all CRT's are going away. I like the LCD's: Safer to wall mount, easy to move, creates much more room, can be used off the network. The problem is the LCD image has SOFT lines when your 2 feet away, once you back up is does "become" more crisp. We spend a great deal of time focusing these hi end cameras and yet the LCD display is just not as crisp as a CRT. It’s the customer with the CRT who is "upgrading" who really sees the difference.

    Monitors CRT vs LCD

We try to get HRez cameras which help. But what a difference with the CRT'S.

Those specs do look promising. Thanks for the info.

    Monitors CRT vs LCD

CRT's seem to be much more crisp and detailed than the LCD monitors. I know there are many advantages to the LCD screen BUT I have compared side by side the CRT and LCD with noticeable results favoring the CRT. Can anyone recommend a 19" - 21" LCD monitor with crisp lines? It really embarrassing when the customer asks if the camera is out of focus when really its the LCD OR asking them to back up 8 feet when they are at their desk. Please help....

    DVR hardrive lifespan

Thanks for the reply's Thomas and Rory. Thomas - That article was helpful. What do you guys think of Dedicated Micros ?
  9. We have been installing stand alone DVR's for just over 3 years and now we are starting to see more and more failures on the hard drives. Some drives have only lasted 2 years. Most of my customers are recording 24x7. I have called the manufactures and they are basically stating that this is normal. Now my problem is relaying this info back to the customer that they will have to replace the hard drives every 2 or 3 years. I understand that the drive is writing constantly, but I thought they would last longer. Is this normal for the standard DVR's? Are there better manufactures? Last item - Is there an article that I can present to my present and future customers regarding the hard drive life span? I need to let my customers know IF these hard drive failures are common. Thank you.
