  1. I have just did backup on my Q-See DVR and chose option to copy files in DVR format, then i formatted disk. Q-See Supplied program SuperPlay v1.3.2.604 has option to play this files and convert to AVI, however it gives error when i try to open folder with .dat files. Is there other maybee generic software that can play and/or convert this files to AVI?

    CCTV over Cloud

To be safe you should use both DVR with regular backup on USB / Blue Ray and push to remote server as additional backup and/or live view. As a concept I don't like idea of using pc and phone apps for remote access directly to DVR, firmwares on DVR's sometimes never get updated and could have some potential breach in them that hacker can use to access your DVR. If you upload to website / cloud then they have to first hack hosting company to even know your DVR's ip address and even if they do know it you can still have all incoming connections blocked in your firewall because uploading from DVR to internet is outgoing connection. So far i have not seen DVR that has feature to push live stream somewhere, maybe NVR's / IP cameras do.

    Viewing CCTV over cloud

Cloud is just server that hosting content, however in "cloud" same content shared between many computers if one goes down info still accessible trough another computer or when you have a lot of users if switches to next server when first reaches certain number of simultaneous connections. Cloud might be an feature of DVR to upload live / backup to cloud i never seen it though. As well as i never seen feature of DVR to push images to FTP server to make live webcam page, maybe ip cameras / NVR's have it.

    Swann system cant login

Did you read the manual? Perhaps you could try setting up Dynamic DNS (aka DynDNS) option isnde DVR and use that domain instead of IP. Could be your router blocking all incoming connections and you have to open whatever port your DVR using before connecting from outside of your LAN.

    CCTV Design Software for MAC

Anything that can build plan of apartment / house should be sufficient then you just draw camera field of view shape and put on your plan, how wide shape depends on what camera you use, you can create shapes based on actual cameras you got or general.

Newbie help with camara placement on 2 story home

Question defines answer, when you give little details, answer will be brief as well. I am new too CCTV, but installed cameras in my duplex, its 2 story too, however i put cameras at same height just like if it was one story building, there's no point to put higher otherwise you will have some panorama view without any details, in my opinion its important to capture face of intruder, not just the fact that someone with blurry face or in the hood tried to break into house.. Can you send pictures or house and relative plan of the building i think 10 cameras is overkill unless they want to put some inside house like in garage. I don't see problem having DVR on second floor, do they have something like security room on second floor with lock in case someone brake down house they lock themselves there and wait for police there, i'd put DVR there otherwise intruded could steal footage, if they too lazy to go up to check DVR they can probably access it from anywhere in the house anyway trough computer / phone. I hate to install something in concrete walls, but making hole in the floor does not sound too complicated, considering its just one small hole with all camera cords going down trough it, you have to use BNC cord that don't have connectors then add connectors to each wire otherwise hole you need to drill in walls/floor will be huge! try this too http://bit.ly/1cByL5K
