    Changing DVMRe-16CT-80 harddrive?

The 80GB hard drive in my DVMRe-10CT failed not too long ago. I replaced it with two 320GB Seagate SV hard drives. Any IDE drive will work as far as I know. I downloaded the GE utility and installed the software. It was staight forward. No problems. Make sure that you purchase IDE drives, not SATA.

    Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem

Just an update. I installed two 320G Seagate Surveillance grade drives, uploaded the remote viewing software and it all works. A really big thank you to all for your help. I was surprised that GE support responded to my email. At best I expected that they would tell me to go to where I bought the unit. That is excellent support. /Michael
  3. I have had Kalatel DVMRe-10CT-80 for about 4 years now. It is now giving the error "No hard disk found". Does anyone know what this means? Is the hard disk dead or some interface fault? Thanks for any suggestions. Michael

    Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem

I have contacted GE technical support and they have given me the link to the support page that has the firmware and uploader software. It is: https://quickplace01.geextranet.com/QuickPlace/inds_fae_files/Main.nsf/h_Toc/D1FFDFE32835CCFA85256ED3005BE3A2/?OpenDocument I've downloaded the software. I'll get the hard drives tomorrow and hopefully all will work. /Michael

    Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem

I've looked through the GE website but I cannot find the page with the utility to install the files for remote connection or updated firmware for the DVMRe units. Can you please direct me to the where I can find them. I'm going to get a couple of Seagate SV35.2 hard disks shortly and would like to have all the software ready to go. Thanks.

    Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem

Thank you all for the quick and detailed responses. I will digest the information and report back.
  7. Hi, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am looking for for a CCTV system for my home after discovering damage to my home on a few ocasions in the past few months. I've looked into DVR's for a while and have settled to what I believe are two very good DVR's. One is the Kalatel DVMRe-10CT and the other is the Dedicated Micro Digital Sprite 2 DVR. Does anyone have experiences with these DVR's (good and bad) and have an opinion on which you believe is the better DVR. Thank you for any input. Michael

    Kalatel or Dedicated Micro DVR

Thanks Sure, I was going to go for the eZ version. However, I got a new quote for the CT version from another installer that was less than that for the eZ version. The only difference is that the new quote has come in this financial year (July) and the eZ quote came last month. Perhaps there is a corresponding drop in the eZ price if I query it. As you said, I want a unit that I can turn on, leave it in a cupboard and network it. I will be going for the Kalatel unit. Thanks for your help everyone. May I say that this forum has been extremely helpful. No doubt it is because of you guys. Thanks a lot. Cheers, Michael

    Kalatel or Dedicated Micro DVR

The classic definition of an embedded system is this that I got from http://www.netrino.com/Publications/Glossary/E.html#embedded_system "A combination of computer hardware and software, and perhaps additional mechanical or other parts, designed to perform a dedicated function." These sytems are purpose built to the requirements for the device, the OS, protocols and software has been customised to perform the desired task. A PC is a general purpose machine designed to do a number of tasks. However, we are seeing a bluring of the lines when embedded systems are now using general purpose processors, operating systems and general purpose hardware to perform specific tasks. I personally don't call a PC running Windows, Linux or whatever with some extra hardware and software added an embedded system.
  10. Hi, I am looking at purchasing 9 external cameras for my home. Has anyone used the Samsung SCC-931 vandal resistant dome camera? If so what are your opinions on this camera for external use? Any opinions (good and bad) about this camera and alternatives would be higly appreciated. Thank you, Michael

    Awesome Standalone

Have you guys seen this DVR: http://www.everfocus.com.tw/pdf/edr1680.pdf The spec's are pretty impressive. In Australia it is rebadged as the NESS EDR-1680. I'd hate to see the cost though. Cheers, Michael

    Samsung SCC-931 dome camera opinions

The home is on a block of about 24mx36m (roughly 80 feet x 130 feet). The home is just over 400m2 in size. I am looking to surround the home with cameras so that no-one can approach the home without being caught on camera. I have had three incidents in the past few months of damage to our home. My wife actually caught them once approaching our home. Apart from interviewing a few people the police haven't done a thing. I've gone to dome cameras because I don't want my home to look like a prison with 9 full bodied cameras. I've had the Samsung cameras demonstrated to me on a Kalatel DVMRe-16CT DVR and the quality looked good to me. I will install external sensors to turn on the external lights if movement is detected. Other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael

    Kalatel or Dedicated Micro DVR

Thank you all for your input. Thank you rory for giving me access to your Kalatel installations so that I can try out the remote software. Thanks DVD_Expert for the link to your site. Mighty impressive DVR's! I am not looking into a PC because I want to put the unit in a cupboard and network it to my PC I have in the study. I don't have the space to have another PC running with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I had the DM and Kalatel remote software running side-by-side and they both look good. To me it looks like the Kalatel remote software has many more features and its layout is in a more familiar Windows style look and feel. I have visited DAS in Melbourne and they gave me a demonstration of the Kalatel DVMRe-16CT (with only about 6 cameras connected) and the remote software. I just found out that upgrading from the 80GByte unit to 160GBytes is $570 AUD. That is pretty expensive given that they are just IDE drives that I can purchase for a fraction of the price. Given your feedback and opinions in other threads that I have read the Kalatel unit now my preferred choice. Thans again, Michael

    Kalatel or Dedicated Micro DVR

I live in Australia and both DVR's are available to me. The Kalatel is AUS$200 cheaper in a quote that I have. So going on price the Kalatel wins, however I was looking for some comments on peoples experiences with reliability and networking issues. I'm looking at networking the DVR, so if anyone has used the remote software, I would like to hear your experience. Thank you, Michael
