  1. So my distributor just got a shipment of the new HD-CVI systems from Dahua. I ordered 2 fixed lens domes and 3 Varifocal bullets, and 8CH DVR. They claim 720P over coax, and honestly the price of the equipment makes me think twice about continuing offering Analog systems. I will keep you guys updated when I install it and post some screenshots. Here's more info: http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products_category/eye-ball-camera-401.html
  2. Horrible advice...cvi,sdi is a step backwards..How in the world is cvi "more convenient" how it it anymore on its own system than an NVR...IP give the op the ability to add any ip cameras he wants to add in the future... You are recommending he run all new wiring so that his system is now limited? Please... FYI..last time i checked you can attached a pc nvr or poe switch to a UPS..dont see how cvi is any better in that respect.. OP, check to see that the static ip address for your cameras are either outside the dhcp range of the router or reserved for the specific camera on the router...have you tried unplugging the switch and the router and see what happens? You are obviously not reading what he said. He's been having problems with the current NVR and IP cameras that he has, so much that even the contractor who deals with this system is recommending replacing it with a DEDICATED system. I choose to recommend CVI because of all the systems I have installed, in my opinion is the best bang for the buck for what you get. The newest technologies and the fanciest stuff is not always the way to go in some situations. He already tried IP, and he's not happy, so why spend all that extra $$$ on more IP stuff that may or may not do what he needs, and considering this is an office system, CVI, SDI, running at 1080p (1920*1080) is more than enough, and yes is COAX, but who's to say that he can't use CAT6 with video balums? I did in a couple if installs that we had wired for IP, until the customer saw some CVI systems and opted to go with those instead.
  3. alright, I have to find an intercom system for a 32 unit condo unit. They have an existing system that's not working, but I believe that the wiring is still good. It's probably a 2 wire system, but I yet have to take a good look at the system. I'm pretty sure I can tackle the issue but I'm looking for a distributor or manufacturer that I can work with, AIR PHONE is a bit too expensive. They also asked about a system with a camera, so any input is appreciated.
  4. This is my suggestion at this point. Since the price is going to be the same, just replace the system with a new one, I'm guessing he's quoting you either a HD-CVI or HD-SDI system, which will give you either 720p or 1080p depending on what he sells you. This is way more convenient since everything is on it's own system, and they tend to be more reliable. One key feature is that since all cameras will be powered by a single power supply box, you can put an external UPS on the DVR and the power supply, which will keep the system ON while the power is out. Let us know what equipment he quoted you and I can advice further.

    HDCVI Signal Problem

all the cameras are the same, dahua's HAC-HDW1100M, and I am going back to the site tomorrow and I will switch some of the cameras out and see of that's the problem. The cameras are mounted on drywall with plastic anchors, and the wires are on the same path to the DVR, but here's the thing I didn't quite explain, the building has a left wing and a right wing, with a foyer and elevator in the middle. Do I have 4 runs on the left side of the building coming down to the middle, and 4 on the right. Right side has 2 cameras acting up, and the left side has one acting up. What I'm getting at is that two different runs developing the same problem is odd. Any ideas keep them coming, thanks for the help.

    help help

Stop it all of you... We cannot tell you how many days recording they have since we don't know the DVR they are using, or Hard Drive size, or anything.. get us more information and we can help you better..
  11. ok, there's a device that I had used in the past to combine two analog video sources to one coax, transmitter and receiver. What it is called? I can't for the life of me remember what it is!!
  12. secplus

    Which system would you pick?

1-TB for 3mp cameras? = 2 days tops for recording at full resolution

    Dahua SmartPSS

Looks like the resolution on the laptop is set too low for the software. What resolution are you running?
  14. Well, your first problem is the fact that Samsung either already got, or are in the process of getting out of the CCTV business. So warranty claims will probably become a challenge down the road. As per your situation, look into HD-CVI cameras if costs are a concern, or IP Megapixel if you are looking for maximum image size and quality. There are a couple of manufacturers that are Tribyrd units, which will take Analog, IP, and CVI-SDI (depending on model) all in one unit. As per your idea of having multiple DVR's? well, if you can get it, then it should not be a problem.

    WHOS A SILLY BOY THEN?

Don't be embarrassed, it happens to the best of us
  17. look, all this information about changing this and that. there is an admin account, a 888888 account, and a default account that gives administration privileges to the DVR. Yes you can change the passwords for all three, or better yet, just delete the accounts and leave the admin account and change that password. Shoot me a PM with your email and I'll send you something else you can use to restrict his access.

    Installation / Dealers etc...

I'm all for saving money, and maybe this particular dealer's price seem a bit high for you. Also take into consideration, and this is a proven fact; 90% of un-authorized dealers, including those on eBay and Amazon, sell knockoff equipment claiming that they are the brand they say. All I'm telling you is to be careful and try to call the dealer before you give them any money to make sure that at the very least they pic up the phone
  19. take the camera out, put it next to the DVR, give it power, and use a coax line to test it out, if it works then is the wires, which then use a separate pair for video, if it doesn't then the camera is bad. simple as that.
  20. Well, if costs are a concern, and you are doing your own installation, then you have a couple of options. First three 32CH systems are going to be your best bet, not only for costs, but because that one camera at 800ft is going to have issues especially when the ir's turn on, plus a 128ch system is going to cost you more than 3 32ch systems. Also think redundancy. One dvr goes, you still have two running. HDCVI. This would be your best option. At this point stay away from old analog, this technology is being fazed out and will be obsolete shorty. A 720p or 1080p system will be best. You can run CAT6 and use "video baluns" (the cat6 to bnc adapter ) Night vision should be more than adequate, don't worry about smoke machines or strobe lights, the cameras wont be affected as long as they are not pointed directly to the light. the only thing is that you cant use a patch panel, wire directly from camera to DVR. one wire per camera, if you try to use two cameras on one wire, you will have image quality issues and this is true for all type or camera technology.
  21. Well, in order to for us to help you, we need a little more information. 1. What's the furthest distance that any one camera will be from the recorders. 2. If you could say what type of environment is this going to be used in, meaning a warehouse that's closed at night, or a big parking lot, box store, ETC. This will give us a better idea of what to look for in terms of night vision. 3. Depending on what system you decide to use, you can set a schedule to record when you want to. 4. There are 64ch, or 128ch DVR systems that you can use, again depending on what type of technology you use, you said IP is too expensive, take a look at HD-CVI stuff, only drawback is the length of cable runs you can use, preferably COAX cable. I use Dahua DVR's and their SmartPSS software to view over 300 cameras from different DVR's that we have installed over time, so take a look at those, and don't be afraid of "Chinese" equipment, almost every "American" manufacturer, even the big boys, are nothing more than re-packaged Chinese equipment. A little more info goes a long way.
