  1. I am in the same situation. I have the Syn 214 Play and a home network (gigabit). I think for us POE is the way to go for the ip cameras. I have a data comms cabinet that has a 24 port patch panel and a TP Link router. I think I will get a 16 port managable switch and a separate POE switch say 8 ports. IT is hard for me to find a 24 port switch with 8 POE ports, so 2 different switches might be the go for me. Additionally, I will probably go for a 10/100 POE switch as this should be more than adequate for what I need. There are POE injectors that you can buy if it is only a couple of POE capable ports you need.
  2. Hi everyone, new to the forum and have read some threads related to the purchase and design of different setups. I would like to utilise the Synology NAS 214 Play which transcodes on the fly and hopefully has enough grunt to effectively benefit from the surveillance station installed on the device. To be honest I would be happy with 720p camera(s) connected through the wired network. I have seen POE and I am interested but do not know the benefits of such an option. May I ask for general guidance for a camera that is best suited to the Synology NAS. Thanks in advance Tony
