    File player plays fast

Try using vlc to play the file and see if it plays normally.

    Honeywell Silent Witness V60 cameras.

Have you called Honeywell or checked out their support site?
  3. That's an interesting question. Most POE switches just have the power on and that's it. If you don't have a problem with resetting all the POE cameras, you can use a outlet reset switch like ones from 3g store. We use one to automatically reset a router every day. Other than that, I think you would be looking into managed switches that would have a lot of vlan and remote management capabilities (expensive).
  4. Wow! Great writeup! I'm sure someone will find this very useful.

    DNS Questions

For the domain/dns, leave the domain blank and put in the dns servers you have listed. If it asks for a domain, put in the name of your network (the one you use to share computers). For setting up the email, look up gmail's instructions on how to set up a 'generic email client' and it should give you all the servers.

    PC cctv

There's not much of a way to do this without a dvr card. If you video card supports video capture, you might be able to get video in the computer that way. Or another way would be to get a tv tuner card or video capture card with inputs. But stand alone dvrs can be had really cheap these days. The days of a PC being cheaper in smaller installations is long gone.
  7. Yep, that's exactly how you can get it to work on a analog system. Just connect the rca to a test monitor to make sure the ipod works first.

    DVR and router issue

Yes, you can set a static dhcp or static ip reservation in the actiontec (as well as most routers these days). Unfortunately, it's been about a year since I've been near an actiontec router, so I can't remember where the settings might be. Just do some searches on 'actiontec dhcp reservation' and it should lead you in the right direction.
  9. Sounds like something updated on your computer and broke the connection. Try another computer (maybe xp) and see if that helps.
  10. Quality will change the amount of compression, which in turns affects the amount of bandwidth used. Higher compression=less bandwidth=not as good picture. Higher the bandwidth, better the picture.

    wireless hd-cvi ?

I'm assuming that this is an IP camera system, so luckily you actually just have an ethernet extension problem. If power to the garage terminates in the home, there's a good change that ethernet powerline adapters will work. If there's a wire of some sort between the home and the garage that you can have access to (phone line, etc), then you can use netsys-direct products to extend ethernet that way. If there's a coax cable, you could extend ethernet that way. And finally, there is wireless. You could set up an outdoor access point and lock it down so that only that camera can access it, but wireless is always the most finacky. I'd use any of the previous solutions first. Good luck!

New member help with power supply

You'll lose ampage over that distance. Try a source power supply for 12v 8amps and see what happens. I forgot the exact loss equation over a cable, but I know it can be a lot.
  13. It depends on if you want to go IP cams or analog. IP cams can give you much better quality, but they are much more expensive. If you're just looking at a home system, that system is a pretty good value.
  14. Wow, I hate when things like this happen. Are the cameras wireless or wired? One way to tell if it's the signal or the power would be to disconnect the signal line from each camera and keep the power on. If the interferance stops, the signal itself is the issue and maybe shielding the wire better will help. Unfortunately, if it's still causing the problem, then it could be the power supplies. You could try replacing those too as most are cheap junk that are barely fcc class b.

Have you tried to call American Dynamics?

    Cheap CCTV install

You can get spare BNC/Siamese cable and just extend it, but you may run into signal issues if the run it too long or the couplers aren't getting a good connection.
  17. If you can't see them from even the public IPs, something is blocking your system on the network. Can you ping the public and private IPs?

    rs-485 combined

If the keyboard is a standard PC keyboard, I'd just get a dual view KVM switch and then you can use two keyboards simultaneously via the KVM switch.

    DVR error, need help :(

The issue will either be in the DVR or the cameras. My hunch is that it's the DVR, and here's how to confirm it. Swap a known working (no issue and no mirroring in 'ghost' cameras) to a problem camera port. Swap the problem camera to the known working camera port. Observe. If the camera works fine on the new port--it's the port on the DVR. If the camera still has problems--it's the camera or the line to the camera.

    QVIS networking issue

Probably some sort of ibug or iproblem. Seriously, check to see if there have been any other reports of issues like this on those platforms. If everything else is working, sounds like an issue with those devices and the qvis app.

    configurations

Good possibility. You can remotely configure the router if remote management is set up, thereby eliminating the trainee.

    System Challenge

Agreed, but the place I have in mind will make it difficult if not impossible to spot. Quality is a concern, but at 5-10', do you think it will make a significant difference?
  23. I'm just looking up your digimerge brand, and I don't see anywhere in the manuals in various models that it says it supports RTSP. Whats your model? It's a DH200. It actually doesn't support rstp (at least anywhere that I could find). However, it does seem to be streaming via http, as data is available in the codec and statistics tabs under 'Media Info' in VLC. This is the format of that url: http://IPADDRESS/monitor.cgi?Channel=[CHANNEL]&Audio=0000&Live=1 This may be related to how the stream is h264, but with no audio. It seems some players have issues with that.

    System Challenge

That's nice, but it has a dongle. Multiple pieces again. Size doesn't have to small. We can mount it where it is hard to spot. It just has to be self-contained and be capable of wifi and recording to itself on motion triggers. This way, we can set it and forget it. Whenever any movement occurs--email and recorded footage. I think this trendnet one is close to what we need, but I don't know if it's the best thing out there: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/887703-REG/Trendnet_TV_IP672W_Megapixel_PTZ_Wireless.html

    System Challenge

Does a covert one like this exist? I bet even a deer hunting camera or a dashcam for a car would work, but something designed for the cctv industry would probably be best.
