  1. Most certainly it could be exploited. Almost anything can be. Definitely change default ports and remember a long password is generally more secure than a complex one. I would also recommend creating user accounts with only viewer privileges for use while away from home. Although my old analog dvr had a compromised viewer account, which they successfully used to obtain the administrative credentials. But at the end of the day, the risk of me not seeing my cameras is worse than the risk of somebody else seeing them. VPNs are another option.
  2. Even the hikvision line detection can trigger on shadows creeping over. Intrusion detection has helped me reduce the amount of false positives.
  3. Cheers mate, can you show me the remote config of the storage server? When I'm home I will post up my config. I don't think it would matter since the live view is working but you can have all your cameras utilizing the original ports, and adjust the port forwarding. You can have multiple devices on a LAN using identical port numbers, and with port forwarding the external and internal ports don't need to be the same. EG (Sorry if formatting doesn't turn out correctly): Service Name : Port Range : Local IP : Local Port Front door : 8001 : 192.168.1.251 : 8000 Back door : 8002 : 192.168.1.252 : 8000 All this will do is rule out a layer 1-4 issue, and we can focus on the application config.
  4. Eyebrows, is that table showing the port forwarding on the router or the port information as it is configured on the device? If it is the latter then it is unnecessary. And if you are port forwarding is the nvr on a remote network? Post up or PM configs of ivms, I have used both client and PCNVR (as well as the standalone NVR software) successfully to record. I'm currently using the client software as a single PC solution for recording and live viewing.
  5. Exactly, and who are they to know that people don't want them connecting to their open access points... At this rate it won't be long until they will be peeking through open windows and checking unlocked doors.
  6. Unmanaged switches only operate at layer 2, which means it can't perform any routing, vlans etc. You would use one when you only really need a smart hub. Unmanaged switches also won't be able to handle QoS or advanced security protocols like radius, port filtering, storm control etc. It all depends on the functionality you require. If you just want to connect a couple of devices from the same lan and thats it (plug and play) then an unmanaged switch will be fine, assuming it can handle the traffic. If you want more control over your network then start looking at smart or managed switches. Smart switches are often more feature rich than unmanaged switches, but not as much as managed switches.

    PCNVR, UDP

    Hey guys, Perhaps I'm blind but I can't see anywhere to change the live stream protocol to UDP in iVMS4200 PCNVR. I can find it in iVMS4200 client. I don't think it's under the local settings on the cameras themselves, adjusting that only seems to change when viewing through the browser.     Windows 8

    Firewall shouldn't be an issue, since the connection is initially established by you. Win 8 firewall by default allows all outbound. At most allow all inbound from the specific camera IP addresses, I would recommend not disabling your firewall. I have 3 Win8 devices + mobile 8 and can view IP and analogue cameras on them all so I would agree that it would probably be a plugin issue.
  9. There is a configuration option to set up DDNS on iVMS 4200. I use this on a per camera basis rather than through iVMS but I imagine it would be the same and probably easier with a large deployment. All you would need to do is port forward to your PC and register that device on hikvisions DDNS site. I guess then you could maybe use iVMS 4500 or iVMS 4200 client, but not entirely sure.
  10. UV will deteriorate your cables. Admittedly I work on a Port so there are more environmental variables but UV damage is definitely a reality. But in saying that the most damage I have seen is the colour fading but we replace all cables every 12 months. Now we only use the black outdoor rated stuff for all our outdoor runs.
  11. I would think SADP utilizes multicasting which would mean your LAN range is irrelevant. I would make sure there is nothing stopping your PC/app receiving multicast messages.

    iVMS 4200 issue

    Thanks mate. I have a gfx card I can drop in after work so I will see if that improves this issue. Switches are Cisco SG300-10 and SMCGS8P-Smart. Using my laptop and the latest HiKVision client app the image and fluidity is flawless, same as the live view on a web browser. I have tried installing a slightly older PCNVR 1.3 version on the troubled box. If gfx card does not fix it I may try v1.2 or another vendors software.

    iVMS 4200 issue

    Thanks for the response. I agree that it sounds like an issue on the PC side. No graphics card, I am using the integrated Intel® HD Graphics 4600. No recording yet because I'm not going to waste my time if this solution does not work but I do intend to record. Screenshot I don't think would be very helpful, image is very good, it just hangs on iFrames after constant streaming. Imagine watching an hd movie, but every second or 2 someone pauses it for a split second, then plays again - constantly. Even changing live view to the second camera and back to this camera resolves the issue.
  14. Hi guys, I have just built a new system which includes an i5-4440, 8GB RAM, Samsung EVO 840 boot drive and separate recording drive. Running Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64. Its only purpose in life is to run iVMS4200 PCNVR v1.03.06.02. There are 2 cameras connected: 1x 2CD2632F-IS @ 1080P, 25 FPS and 1x 2CD2332-i @ 3MP, 18FPS. The 2632 is displayed on a 1080P monitor 24/7 and the network infrastructure is 1Gbps. Currently no VLANs or QoS. I am not currently recording. The issue I have is the longer the live display is open, the worse the fluidity becomes. When I open the application the stream is perfect, however the next morning it staggers to the point where it is almost unwatchable. It appears to stagger on the iFrames. I have tried different bitrates (VBR and CBR) from 2048 - 11264, and changed iFrame to 1/2, 1:1 and 2:1 of the FPS. Closing and reopening the application resolves the issue. CPU usage sits at about 12%. Currently application setting is set to "Fluidity" It is a complex, dynamic scene with moving branches relatively close to the lens, a busy road in the top half, my driveway and front door in the bottom half.Any suggestions would be much appreciated, as although the image is sharp the live view is worse than my 600TVL analogues I have just replaced.
