  1. I am looking to put together a mobile surveillance platform to use in a parking lot, or on a building site. I am looking at NVR's at the moment. Mostly because they can handle the Heat requirements I need. I am going to be using probably 4 cameras to get what I am looking for out of the unit. I jsut need recomendations on each and why. There are so many choices and i'm getting confused. The NVR can do 30fps of 2mp at H.264 recording. Live view is less than half. I will have remote access with 3g at this time. For the cameras I was thinking of buying 5 and using 4 at any given time. 1. Need a PTZ that has good Optical zoom and is 2MP and works day/night. 2. Need 3 bullets that are 2MP and are also Day/Night the lense can be verifocal to about 9 or so. 3. Is my optional licens plate Camera also 2MP day/night. V/F lense as well I was looking to stay on the MP side if at all possible just to be up on technology and have the ability to digitaly zoom in on an image after the fact if need be. I am not opposed to analog, but I would like it to at least be progressive scan, and I would have to convert it to ip to use the NVR. I know this is kind of vegue and I apologize for that. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Thats too funny. One of the sponsors adds on here has exactly what I am looking for with the 4D1. Just need to know how well everyone likes Dahua now...
  3. Does this even Exist in the DVR world or do I need to go with PC based to do it. I need to record 4 Ch at D1. I look around on the net and all I find is creative wording with 4D1 in the title of a DVR name and they justify it with 4 ch at D1. Is there such an animal? Cheers.
  4. I am not at work so I don't remember the specific model # of my camera. However it is a Toshiba. It has crazy low light capabilities. The lens is a Computar 20x so it is 5.6-120mm powered zoom. It is a 4 pin lens. The camera works well during the day. However at night things get out of wack. Fuzzy out of focus etc. I know it did this with our previous Pelco camera that was in the enclosure. It died, so we grabbed one of our high dollar low light cameras and stuck it in there. We were hoping the fuzzy issue at night was just part of the previous camera going bad. However replacing it with the current Toshiba, it has the same issues. Any ideas. I figured it had to be a setting or something.
  5. Looks like I have it narrowed down to 2 cameras. 1. Pelco CC3751H-2 that was mentioned earlier 2. JVC TK-C925U They both look comparable. JVC showes more Lines of resolution, Pelco does better with low lux.
  6. Yes the original equipment seemed to be a Pelco Package PTZ setup. We use the PTZ through our DVR. Being I have this Panasonic camera deployed in supar conditions and it is a temporary solution. I need to come up with a replacemant for it. Could you guys suggest a replacement. Unfortunately money is an issue. I know it don't seem like it with the $1k camera in it now. But, money is very tight around here these days. It obviously needs to be a box type needs to fit in pelco inclosure Day/Night Auto Irus Wide Dynamic? It does get some sun in late afternoon towards sunset 480 Lines at least.
  7. did some research. Looks like my Pelco unit was never intended to be a Day/Night camera. That is why it Never worked properly. As for the Bad AZZ Panasonic in there now. I am told by panasonic that it is because my Pelco zoom is ment for a 1/3 camera and I have 1/2 on it now. I knew it was different. I didn't think it would have anything to do with the situation. I just figured it would show the circle of the smaller adapter in which it does and that was fine for the time being. Any ideas on this?
  8. Thanks for your answers. I want to clear up the model types in my post. I was way off. The camera is a Panasonic WV-CL924. It specs out 480 lines C/L 570 B/W 0.3 lx (0.03 footcandle) at F1.4 (C/L), 0.02 lx (0.002 footcandle) at F1.4 (B?W) It has multiple sutter speeds from 1/60 to 1/10000 The lense is a PELCO unit all I know about it is that it was 5.6x112 zoom. It has no other distinguished marks on it at all. The original setup was done by a security company. I believe the particular camera, zoom, and PTZ was probably a package that pelco typically uses. Months ago. The original Pelco camera cc3700h-2 stopped working. While it was working it gave us the same picture at night. Fine during the day crap at night. I would like to think this should have worked like we were told it would by the installers some years back. It never did, and never was fixed. Someone told us it was a setting and it would be no issue to fix. So once the camera stopped working a little while ago we put in the very nice Panasonic unit that should have smoked the older pelco. Turns out to have the same issue. Wonder if I could play with some of thye shutter speeds or somethign to get it to work?
  9. I have been doing searches and even checked out the sticky on it in this forum. I can view from my LAN but not through the Internet. I have a D-link router. I opened up the 2 ports and forwarded them to the DVR. My DVR requires 2 ports it is an old unit. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is my Routers (outside) address. All I find on my router is my 192. address. I don't know where to get the outside address. I don't even know the correct terminology for what I am asking. I have a Comcast Cable modem. IT is a Motorola surfboard. From that I go to my D-Link out of the D-Link I hit my DVR and my Motorola's Vonage device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel that I am so close to figuring this out and it is killing me.
  10. Thanks for the info...cctv_down_under rory and I have been PMing back in forth. He was looking into my IP for me. As we were doing this I learned a valuable lesson. I figured out that I had my router behind my Vonage phone modem. So the IP that I though was me wasn't and I couldn't get past the modem. SO I unplugged everything re ran the cords cable modem-router-DVR-Vonage. I rechecked my IP it was different. I typed it in and BOOM there was my DVR on the world wide web. Thanks rory and everyone else here on the forums. You guys are fantastic and their will be many more questions that I will have. Know learning the hard way. I should be able to do this on other customer sites now, or at least much closer to doing it. I am sure I will have to add the IP address to some firewalls to be allowed in. Cheers,
  11. I have a flier from VisualGate Systems. It appears that they have a CCTV system that runs over existing AC wires in a house or building. Here are some specs. Selectable MPEG$ or MJPEG video supports 16 cameras at 30fts local and remote access to the DVRs Resolution UP TO 640x480 They sell kits, DVR cameras and screens Stuff sounds kind of crazy. I just can't figure out how the picture could be all that good over live AC. What are your thoughts? anyone use it? Probably old news. I did a search and didn't find anything.
  12. The port works. The site said it was stealth. I am guessing that is not good? I removed the first port of 80 and tried my IP again. It takes me rite to my Motorola log in screen....
  13. I see what you are calling a virtual server. DO I need to remove it? You can see my ports on the bottom. Private IP Protocol Schedule Virtual Server FTP 0.0.0.0 TCP 21/21 always Virtual Server HTTP 0.0.0.0 TCP 80/80 always Virtual Server HTTPS 0.0.0.0 TCP 443/443 always Virtual Server DNS 0.0.0.0 UDP 53/53 always Virtual Server SMTP 0.0.0.0 TCP 25/25 always Virtual Server POP3 0.0.0.0 TCP 110/110 always Virtual Server Telnet 0.0.0.0 TCP 23/23 always IPSec 0.0.0.0 UDP 500/500 always PPTP 0.0.0.0 TCP 1723/1723 always NetMeeting 0.0.0.0 TCP 1720/1720 always DCS-900/DCS-1000 0.0.0.0 TCP 80/80 always DCS-2000 0.0.0.0 TCP 80/80 always i2eye 0.0.0.0 TCP 1720/1720 always DCS-2000/5300 0.0.0.0 TCP 800/800 always DVR1 192.168.0.53 TCP 80/80 always DVR1 192.168.0.53 TCP 1104/1104 always
  14. Ha Ha Ha.... Thats funny you chimed in here. you are the reason why I am here asking questions. Not in a bad way. I origonally used your sticky. I wasn't doing something right and my Dlink customer support pointed the finger at my modem company and my modem company pointed the finger at Dlink. So I came back to the forums to try to figure it out. I went into my Dlink and opened up ports 80 and 1022 or what ever it was on the second one. They are opened and forwarded to the IP of the machine. What I am not picturing is what does my IP to my cable modem have to do with it. That is the cable modems IP. What is telling it I actually want the IP of the DVR. Do I need to type in the modems IP with something else behind it to say you need to look for the ports that support the DVR address?
  15. Ok sorry its been a busy week at work. I just started getting back to this old DVR issue. I tried the whatismyip.com thing. It told me the IP. I typed it into my browser and It looks like I hit my cable modem. It brings up a log in screen to Motorola. That is my cable modem, and also my vonage but the vonage is after the Dlink switch I have. Am I doing something wrong. One more thing. Being I know my (outside IP) what is telling/forwarding me to the DVR. Shouldn't their be some kind of validation of where I am actually trying to get. IE I understand the internal network stuff a little now. The whole 192.0.0.0.0 and so on That is the address to the machines on the network. What does the modem IP have to do with it. Something has to tell the modem to point to the router then the router says ohh you are looking for port 80 and 1024 or what ever here you go. I feel that I am missing a little something. It sucks trying to type this out. I am very hands on. I need to see it. Visualizing isn't always there for me. I am a little hard headed. Please fill me in on what I am misinterperating.
  16. I am working up a quote for my first IP system. Axis was first choice for IP. As I am putting together the quote. I realize that I have to buy software to use these cameras. It is pretty damn expensive also. Not to mention the IP camera it's self. Am I only limited to using the Axis software? Is their a better solution? I really want to sell this IP solution to my customer, however analog may be the only way to go. It will be like half the price.
  17. Let me start off and say I have done a few analog systems hooked to DVR's. So I know a little about what is going on. Background on the job. I have a house that I am currently installing a Digilinks system in. For those of you that don't know what that is. It is a Music system that is IP based. We are sending music from a PC to 16 zones in a house. The owner of the house wired the hell out of it. Luckily he ran Cat5 to every location he could even think of. This guy was very smart. Now that we are doing this music system, he also wanted to do CCTV. I have cat5 and RG6 at multiple locations around the perimeter of the home. I figured since he is a tech guy. I would sell him an IP camera system. I could do analog, but the IP would inter-grate with the Digilinks system better. The server PC for the music will be located in the kitchen with a touch screen and blue tooth keyboard and mouse. We had a server built. It is a 2.4 quad dual duo processor. I know I messed that name up sorry. It has a 320gig mirrored hard drive. also. This computer is strictly for media. It will be running 24/7 365. It will be hosting all the audio for the house, and also some recipes for the wife and Nannie. I was thinking of adding another hard drive to this PC for the NVR. Size wise. I haven't a clue. I need to figure out the cameras I will be using and what the require. Probably at least 1TB of storage. One of my main concerns is bogging down the computer with the camera storage while trying to stream IP music from the PC. Is this going to be an issue? As for cameras. I was thinking of going with AXIS. However, I think the Digilinks system will only use Panasonic for some reason. I would think any camera should work. But, the customer service probably won't help me with another brand. I am not sure. That I will have to look into. Please help me here. Please help me out here.
  18. OK, things have changed here. I am now at the point of adding a second PC instead of trying to get my media PC to do everything. IP Computer is a 2.4 core 2duo processor 4GB total memory Raid 5 partitioned 500GB c: drive 1.5 TB D drive Intel graphics accelerator This seems like a very nice setup for the money. I spoke with Axis and he helped me put together these specs. He wants me to record to the c: drive for a few days then archive to the D: for backup. Axis has me using their dome. It is the 225FD. for my application. The only think I fear is that I am spending Good amounts of money on an IP camera and it isn't even 1.0 MP. The owner of the house wants real nice stuff. He isn't against spending money. I just don't want to know that I could have given him a better picture with an analog camera. I really want something that is at least 1mp. I just don't like what I have to do with an Axis camera to get that. I don't want bread boxes around a multi million dollar home. They are going to want something that is not way obstructive like a bread box. A nice 1mp. IP dome would be great if I could find one from my distributor. Any ideas on other brands please shoot them to me.
  19. I saw that. Those cameras look to be indoor only. One is splash resistant. I need perimeter, so I need something outdoor. The reason they are using the Panasonic is. NetStreams has added their PTZ protocol in their software. So from a Touchlinks (keypad) you can see and control a camera. Not really needed in my situation. I wonder if I can just make buttons on the Netstreams and route those buttons to an IP of a camera. Instead of pulling a web page it will pull the camera image. Sounds like this is the way to go if I can do it. That way I can use what ever camera I want. I may not even worry about any of that and run the monitor out of the DVR/NVR to each screen in the house and put them on their own input. Who wants to look at a little screen keypad anyway to view a camera. Now if I had 15" touch pads put in the walls everywhere. I could see this feature being worth while.
  20. Exactly, That is what I am looking for. All I want the DigiLinks to do is view a camera or 2 that is it. The camera system will only have about 6 cameras total. I still have to look into the cameras.
  21. Good deal. I shouldn't need to splice anything with the Baluns. I wasn't thinking about it actually converting to rg59 then going up to the camera. That makes since now. My supplier has me price with 2 pelco PTZ's. So that is good to know. Thanks for the info...
  22. I have a customer that is having issues with people throwing trash into his fenced in stock yard. He is looking for 6 cameras. 2 need to be able to to pan and zoom remotely. He wants Very good video quality. He would like to get a license plate. I told him that is a task at hand. I have only used speco TN series DVR's. I wanted to see if I could find a better unit that would work faster over the net. I find the viewing over the net very choppy even over cable modem. Then again I may be asking to much. I do like the speco cams. I am interested in the HT-650PTDZ. It had a motorized pan and tilt with a 3x digital zoom. It has 540lines of resolution so with the 3x maybe I could pick up a license plate given I have the perfect time of day with no issues of reflection of the plate. With this cam it looks like I have to use the RC-650 remote to control the cameras. I just want to confirm that. I have never installed one of these. However for the price and what it does. I may be asking entirely to much. The customer is trying to talk me out of selling him a monitor. He wants to view on the net only. I don't think he understands what he is getting into, or maybe me being so new to this that I don't know the correct product to offer him. Any help for brands or any other information would be great....
  23. Anyone with any ideas on how to do what I am looking to do in the last post?

    Camera for a boat dock.

Ohh yea. I figured out the Hybrid unit was the one to get. I guess I need to get an account going with one of these online stores. Just need to check and make sure they sell the camera and dvr in question, and make sure it has other stuff I don't currently sell. I went to my dad's house today and took some photos of his pier. From the second landing down from the hill I got a great view. I was further ahead of trees to my left and right. I was able to get a better field of view. These shots are from the landing. I think if I go here and put in this IP camera. I think I will actually place it 12-15 feet to the left of where I took the picture from. That way I get better coverage. More of what is in both pictures. Here are 3 shots from the location I think may be best. The last landing before the dock. Here are shots from the dock. This one is a shot of where I think I may want to put the camera. A little to the right of the landing though to get more in the shot since it will be one camera.
  25. I am on a task to put 2 cameras on my parents boat dock to cover their entire pier. It should only take 2 of them. Esthetics are not that important. However I was kind of looking at bullets. My task is VERY sharp images. I want to ID a person, boat #'s etc. I have full range of placement for the cameras. We have steps that come down say a 100' hill/cliff. It has a seating landing about half way down. So it is nice and elevated. I have a good view of everything. Lets say I have a object view of 50' or a little better that I want to be able to identify. The equipment is still up in arms of what I want to put in. So far I have only put in Speco stuff. So all I was looking for was good recording resolution, and playback/live resolution. We are going to play it back to a 55" plasma. So resolution is the key here. We have had issues with people taking things, and being disrespectful. Here is the cameras so far that I have selected. Wide Dynamic Range Color Bullet Camera (WDR-B1) This color dome camera uses Pixim DPS technology, the industry's wide dynamic range solution, that delivers accurate video capture and color accuracy in challenging lighting conditions such as glare, direct sunlight, reflections and strong backlight 24/7.
